Based on the panel data of 31 provinces(autonomous regions and municipalities, excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) in China from 2012 to 2020, the entropy method is used to construct the comprehensive development level index of digital economy and the index of common prosperity at the provincial level, and the direct promotion effect and the spatial spillover effect of digital economy development on common prosperity are empirically tested by using the panel regression model and the spatial econometric model. The results show that the development of digital economy significantly promotes common prosperity and is the key force to promote common prosperity in the new era;the positive influence of digital economy on common prosperity has a significant spatial spillover effect;under the background of digital economy, education development and R&D innovation not only directly promote common prosperity, but also have a significant spatial spillover effect, which have become the focuses of promoting common prosperity. In addition, the regional coordinated development can also provide a breakthrough for common prosperity. It is suggested to constantly improve the development mechanism of digital economy, scientifically allocate the infrastructure of digital economy, actively promote the coordinated development of regional digital economy, and increase the investment in education and R&D innovation.
