摘要
文章运用定量与定性思维互嵌方式,在概念整合视域下,探讨了辜鸿铭《中庸》英译本空间隐喻翻译及其背后的认知机制,结果显示:《中庸》空间隐喻包括三种类型:状态、等级及社会关系空间隐喻,其中状态空间隐喻占比最高;译者舍弃或半保留源域空间概念,展示原文文化的深层含义,并将空间概念词隐喻义明晰化;概念整合对《中庸》空间隐喻英译具有较强解释力。此研究不仅加强了概念整合与空间隐喻翻译研究的理论互动,也为中国典籍英译提供认知理据,同时也响应了中国文化“走出去”的号召,有利于增强国人的文化自信。
Through the mutual permeating thinking of quantitative and qualitative,research is aimed at exploring English translation of spatial metaphors in the Universal Order,or Conduct of Life by Gu Hongming and its cognitive mechanism from the perspective of conceptual blending theory.The results manifest that:There are three types of spatial metaphors in the Universal Order,or Conduct of Life:state,hierarchy and social relations,among which state spatial metaphors account for the highest proportion;The translator adopts abandonment or semi-conservation for the spatial concept in the source domain to show the deeply implied meaning of culture in the source text and clarify the metaphorical meaning of the spatial concept terms;Conceptual blending theory has an intensely explanatory power for the translation of spatial metaphor in the English version of the Universal Order,or Conduct of Life.The study not only enhances the theoretical interaction between conceptual blending theory and spatial metaphor,but also provides cognitive motivation for the translation of Chinese classical books into English.Meanwhile,it also responds to the call of Chinese culture to“go global”,which is conducive to reinforce the cultural confidence of China.
