摘要
20世纪80年代,西方文学研究从内部修辞研究转向外部关系研究,其中伦理学转向引起学界的极大关注。解构主义因其文本内部形式主义研究备受质疑,作为回应,J.希利斯•米勒提出道德的文本性和文本的道德性二位一体的阅读伦理思想。米勒使用解构主义修辞学批评手段,指出康德形而上道德哲学的核心概念——“道德律”能指的无限滑动,揭示康德道德哲学企图接近,但无法最终抵达语言外先验伦理原则的道德文本性特征。在此基础上,米勒借助德曼“阅读的寓言”等思想,揭示文本的不可读性,以及读者面对文本时的道德要求,提出其阅读伦理思想,这是一种基于文学语言述行功能并勾连文本修辞研究和文化政治研究的伦理性阅读行为,而非伦理性阅读原则。
In the 1980s,Western literary studies tended to shift its focus from in-text rhetorical research to out-text relational investigation,in which the ethical turn has caught much attention.Deconstructionism was challenged for its formalist approach to the text itself.As a response,J.Hillis Miller put forward his theory of ethics of reading,mainly concerned with the combination of textuality of moral and morality of text.By means of deconstructive rhetorical reading,Miller reveals the sliding of the key signifier“Moral Law”in Kantian moral metaphysics and his failed attempt to arrive at a transcendental moral principle outside of language,laying bare the textuality in Kantian moral philosophy.Miller then argues for the unreadability of text,drawing on thoughts like Paul de Man’s theory of“allegory of reading”,and elaborates the ethical judgment a reader is supposed to make while facing an unreadable text,arriving at his theory of ethics of reading,which describes an ethical reading process,rather than an ethical principle,connecting rhetorical research and cultural-political investigation on the basis of the performativity of literary language.
