摘要
作为混沌理论的重要范畴,“分形”强调事物跨尺度的自相似性与重复对称性。当代美国作家理查德·鲍尔斯的小说《奥菲奥》巧妙运用这一混沌理论的重要范畴,在叙事内容与叙事结构上呈现独特的分形叙事特征。分形叙事不仅使得小说文本呈现出多层次多维度的复杂分形构型,使得小说成了一张动态而又整体的“混沌”之“网”,还有机地勾连了文学与艺术、历史与现实、想象与回忆,表征出一定程度的暗恐审美效应。《奥菲奥》通过小说人物对自由的向往和追求却最终走向悲剧人生的书写,披露了美国的反恐真相,表现出作家对后“9·11”时代深陷反恐阴影下美国社会的忧思。
“Fractal”,one of the most important categories in chaos theory,pays emphasis on self-similarity and symmetry across different scales.Orfeo,a novel written by contemporary American writer Richard Powers,makes use of fractals,presenting features of self-similarities both in narrative content and structure.By means of fractal narrative,Richard Powers makes the text present to be of fractals with multiple layers and dimensions,which easily combines literature with art,history with reality,and imagination with memory.Fractal narrative not only makes the text into a dynamic and complicated whole,but also uncanny to a certain extent in its aesthetic effect.By depicting the figure who desires for freedom but finally ends up with a miserable life,Powers reveals the truth about American anti-terrorism measures and expresses his concern for American society which is heavily shadowed with anti-terrorism at the era of post-9/11.
