摘要
洛夫乔伊、艾布拉姆斯从各自不同的理论方法出发开展浪漫主义研究,其不同之处在于洛夫乔伊运用观念史的研究方法研究浪漫主义,通过挖掘浪漫主义形成时期的实证材料消解浪漫主义的整体性和统一内涵,进而考察浪漫主义形成的源头与历史发展过程。艾布拉姆斯则从美学理论的逻辑思维出发概括了浪漫主义理论的整体特征与核心内涵,并在《镜与灯:浪漫主义文论及批评传统》一书中凭借其直觉,关注文学的隐喻性,详尽阐释浪漫主义经典作品,完成了对浪漫主义的完整把握。洛夫乔伊与艾布拉姆斯都为浪漫主义研究提供了丰富的材料和全新的视野,但也都没能完全解决当前浪漫主义研究所面临的困境。
A.O.Lovejoy and M.H.Abrams approach the study of romanticism from their respective theoretical methodologies,with Lovejoy employing a history of ideas approach to investigate romanticism.By excavating empirical materials from the period of pomanticism’s formation,Lovejoy dissolves the overall unity and connotation of romanticism,and then examines the origins and historical development process of romanticism.Abrams,on the other hand,summarizes the overall characteristics,and the core connotations of romanticism theory from the logical thinking of aesthetic theory.In his book The Mirror and the Lamp:Romantic Theory and the Critical Tradition,Abrams relies on his authorial intuition,focuses on the metaphorical nature of literature,and provides a detailed interpretation of romantic classics,achieving a complete grasp of romanticism.Both Lovejoy and Abrams have provided rich materials and new perspectives for romanticism studies,but neither has fully resolved the current dilemmas encountered in romanticism research.
