摘要
辜鸿铭的儒经翻译活动开展于社会巨变的晚清时代,其翻译思想具有典型的“教化”特质,即将中国儒教中的“道德责任感”教化至西方,以弥补西方文明中对于“道德”这一文明标准的缺失。研究发现,这种“教化”翻译思想生发于其独特的文化身份与秉持的“良民宗教”观,其以消除译文与读者的隔阂与重视读者感受为翻译策略和手段,力图实现西方社会对儒家“道德责任感”的吸纳,进而完成其救国济世的核心目的。
Ku Hungming′s translation of Confucian Scriptures was carried out in the late Qing Dynasty,a time of great social change.His translation thought has a typical"cultivation"characteristic,which is,namely,to cultivate the"moral responsibility"in Chinese Confucianism to the West,in order to make up for the lack of"morality"standard in western civilization.It is found that this"cultivation"characteristic is born from Ku Hungming′s unique cultural identity and his view of"religion of good citizenship".With the translation strategies and means of eliminating the gap between the translation and the reader and paying attention to the reader′s feelings,Ku Hungming sought to achieve the absorption of Confucianism′s"moral responsibility"in western society and thus fulfilled his core purpose of saving China and helping the world.
