Diet is the important nutritional basis of dairy male calves, which can regulate the growth of the body.Due to the incomplete development of gastrointestinal tract in young calves, the microflora in the body has not yet formed and is unstable, and it is easy to be affected by the nutrients in the diet, which will adverse⁃ly affect the subsequent growth and development and the improvement of production performance. Therefore, whether the diet composition is reasonable has an important effect on the growth and development of dairy male calves and the health of digestive tract. The rumen development, digestion and utilization mechanism of dietary carbohydrate, protein and fat,as well as their effects on the growth and development of dairy male calves were reviewed in this paper,in order to ensure the healthy development of dairy male calves by adjusting the diet composition, and provide theoretical basis and technical support for future research and production practice of dairy male calves.
