摘要
理雅各英译《论语》长期被视作翻译中国典籍的标准。以理雅各英译《论语》为研究对象,构建《论语》中核心词汇“仁”“礼”“德”的物性结构,罗列其物性结构中物性角色分布情况,从结构对结构的角度探究词汇的对应性问题。研究表明,在理雅各英译《论语》中,“仁”“礼”“德”的翻译并未与原文取得很好的对应,主要体现在两个方面:其一,与原文相比,译文会出现物性结构转换和缺失的情况;其二,原文中核心词汇的统一性在译文没有得到保留。研究一定程度上拓宽了物性结构的应用范畴,为《论语》英译中的词汇研究提供了新的视角。
James Legge’s English translation of The Analects has long been considered the standard for translating Chinese classics.This article focuses on Legge’s English translation of The Analects,constructing the qualia structure of ren仁,li礼,and de德,the core concepts within,to explore the equivalence of lexicons from a structural perspective.The study reveals that in Legge’s English translation of The Analects,the translation of ren仁,li礼,and de德does not correspond well to the original text,primarily evident in two aspects:firstly,compared to the original text,the translation exhibits instances of transformation and omission of qualia structures;secondly,the unity of core lexicons in the original text is not preserved in the translation.This study to some extent broadens the application scope of qualia structure and offers a new perspective for lexical research in the English translation of The Analects.
