摘要
美国作家索尔·贝娄,因其对小知识分子荒诞生存的精彩书写被冠以荒诞派作家的头衔。贝娄作品深刻的时代思想烙印,整体上浸润着西方文学源远流长的悲剧意识。西方文学家热衷于悲剧的创作,悲剧主人公们在苦难和压力下不甘于沉沦为“末人”,而是奋起反抗,以其崇高壮美的奋斗历程宣示其作为命运的主人的英雄气概。笔者撷取《洪堡的礼物》《赫索格》和《更多的人死于心碎》三部经典作品,分析人物塑造和情节展开的表现手法,品读作家看似平淡的叙事语言之下深藏的悲剧意识,挖掘其作品悲剧意识的源头,为贝娄作品的研读提供新的视角。
Saul Bellow,a classic American writer,was labeled as an existentialist writer or an absurdist writer because of the absurd living condition of the little intellectuals in his works.Bellow's works are indeed deeply imprinted with the thoughts of the times.However,it is not difficult to find that his works as a whole are steeped in the tragic consciousness of the long history of western literature.Western literature is keen on the tragedy.The protagonists of tragedy are not willing to sink into the"last man"under the suffering and pressure,but rise up against it,and declare their heroic spirit as the master of fate with their noble and magnificent struggle course.The author takes three classic works,Humboldt's Gift,Herzog and More People Die of Heartbreak,and analyzes the author's expression techniques in the characterization and plot development,reads the writer's tragic consciousness hidden under his seemingly plain narrative language,and explores the source of his tragic consciousness in his works,providing a new perspective for the study of Bellow's works.
