Zadie Smith’s NW represents the hard life of immigrants in contemporary London, which serves as a starting point for discussing the social issues such as ethnic conflicts, class struggle and gender oppression in the previous studies. However, they pay little attention to the solutions offered in the novel. In this case,Fredric Jameson’s“the political unconscious”is conducive to analyzing the solutions proposed by Smith through revealing the construction of Utopia in the text from the key dimensions of ethnicity, class and gender, through which the ethical value of the novel is able to be explored.Smith inspires the immigrants to fight for their right to develop and improve living conditions by means of depicting the Utopia, which is helpful to construct the Utopia in the real world.
