This study analyzed the structure and species diversity characteristics of typical plant communities in the northern region of Wuwei City by measuring the species composition, structure, and growth indicators of the typical desert vegetation communities. The results showed that:(1)The typical desert plant communities in the northern region of Wuwei exhibited a simple structure with scarce species composition, fully reflecting the characteristics of desert vegetation communities.(2)The typical desert plant communities in the northern region of Wuwei consisted of shrub/semi-shrub layers and herbaceous layers, with shrub species and perennial herbaceous species present.(3)The species diversity level in the typical desert plant communities was low.(4)Habitat conditions determined the species composition and biodiversity characteristics of the communities.Communities dominated by saltbush(Kalidium foliatum)and wormwood(Artemisia desertorum)had poor habitat conditions, resulting in fewer species and higher diversity indices. In contrast, communities represented by red sand-verbena(Reaumuria soongorica)on gravel gobi had richer species composition and higher diversity indices. Therefore, habitat conditions play a decisive role in determining the species composition and quantitative characteristics of plant communities.
