The English version of Red Sorghum was translated by Howard Goldblatt, the famous American sinologist and transla-tor. At present, Red Sorghum sells best among Mo Yan’s works in the abroad. Howard Goldblatt extricates himself from the ar-gument between domestication and foreignization. With flexible and diverse methods, he,on the one hand, adapts the original text in the a readable, fluent and acceptable work for the foreign readers. On the other hand, the target text reserves the original cultural factors and style as much as possible. As idioms are full of cultural information, the quality of the translated idioms can show the translator’s skills best. This paper takes the translated idioms as examples to study Howard Goldblatt’s translating meth-ods and hopes to shed some revelation to the“going out”of Chinese modern literature.
