摘要
本文回顾了美国自殖民地时期以来的城市化和郊区化历史过程。美国的城市化和重大社会经济变革主要发生在19世纪,而美国的郊区化则始于20世纪,并且在第二次世界大战以后得到加速发展。尽管中美两国之间存在许多差异,但是中国迟早也将经历先城市化,后郊区化的过程。在未来中国的大都市地区,在城市化和郊区化两种力量的相互影响下,一个由便利交通和通讯基础结构设施支撑的多中心城市空间结构必将最终形成。
This paper reviews the history of the urbanization and suburbanization process in the U.S. A dating back to the colonial times. The 19th century witnessed the occurrence of a dramadc urbanization and socioeconomic transformation in the U.S.A. Ever since the turn of the 20th century, a suburbanization movement began to emerge in the U.S.A, and the process accelerated after the World War II. In spite of their many differences between China and the U.S.A, the Chinese urban development will also go through the first-urbanization and later-suburbanization process sooner or later. For the large metropolitan areas in China, as a result of the interplay of both urbanization and suburbanization forces, the polycentric urban spatial structures will be formed and supported by the backbones of convenient transportation and telecommunication infrastructures.
