语篇主题研究迄今已有多重模式.它始于19世纪中叶,20世纪上半叶马泰体斯有所开拓,1974年由达奈什归纳出五种基本模式,此后得到系统探索.但主要有两类:线性序列观和等级层次观,后者包括前者.线性观主要探讨主题在语篇内的发展过程;等级观集中考察语篇主题到句子主题之间的层次关系与具体化.
Textual topic study has witnessed various models. It started from the middle of the 19th century, found some development in the first half of the 20th century, was theorized in the middle of the 70th, and has been flourishing ever since. But there are chiefly two perspectives: one being the linear or sequential, and the other the hierarchical, with the former included in the latter. The linear perspective is chiefly concerned with topic development in text, including topic initiation, maintenance, shift, regaining, etc., while the hierarchical angle deals with how the general, macro-topic is particularized through a couple of layers down to sentential topics.
