Based on the measurements obtained from the practical low voltage power line, three types of channel characteristics are presented. The characteristics of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based high rate digital communication are analyzed and simulated. The capability of the signal transmission system in overcoming multi path interference and the selection of the parameters are discussed. Also, time domain simulations are carried out to investigate the transmission capability of the OFDM communication system for different signal modulation methods and transmission power levels. Simulation results show that it is possible to realize an OFDM based high rate digital communication with low voltage power line when transmission power is large enough.
