As humanity’s greedy behaviors are leading to reprisals of ecological damage, environmental pollution and freshwater crisis,in today’s world we are facing unprecedented challenges for our survival.Ecological civilization,an advanced pattern of sustainable human development,is being taken seriously by all countries. As water is the core and most active fundamental element in Nature,it plays a dominating role in aquatic ecological civilization.Since aquatic ecological civilization is an important component of ecological civilization, the formers’development greatly matters the latter’s development. The crisis of aquatic ecological civilization is indicated by water but caused by humanity.Disharmonious ethical relations between man and water eventually lead to the disharmony between man and nature.Sustainable development can take place only when we steadfastly follow the practice of aquatic ecological civilization development,by advocating the aquatic ideology of'respecting and caring for aquatic environment and Nature, and taking water as the basis to create harmonious relations between man and water'.This paper, through comparison between ethical theories of China and those of western countries, points out the ethical relations between man and water and the issues that China is faced with during its aquatic ecological civilization development, and proposes the basic thought for the construction of aquatic ecological civilization.
