The scrubber technology can reduce particulate and SOx within one simple process and without potential for plugging or downtime. The technology can be applied as a particulate only device (instead of an ESP) and then later, as regulations become more stringent, will be converted to also address SOx without wasting any of the components. This scrubber can be used with LABSORB or with caustic, sodium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide or even lime. For high levels of S02 , the LABSORB regenerative process greatly minimizes operating costs. LABSORB has been used successfully for incinerated SRU tail gas cleaning and already installed as emissions control for 22 FCCUs worldwide with an aggregate capacity of nearly 158000 m3/d. The differences between caustic scrubbing, regenerative scrubbing and standard ESP applications for FCCU emissions are discussed. The system is described in detail and the potential benefits beyond meeting regulatory requirements are also analyzed.
