摘要
科举制度在中国历史上具有十分深远的影响。它之所以能存在1300多年之久,主要原因不是能够选拔出优秀人才,而是能够满足不断强化的中央集权的需要,为中央集权的政治统治扩大统治基础,提供合法性支持,有利于社会的稳定。
The imperial examination system exerts a far-reaching influence in Chinese history. Initiated in the Sui Dynasty (581-618) and abolished in late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), this system had been practiced for more than 1,000 years by China's feudal dynasties to select government officials. There must be some inherent cause for such a long-lived institution to be shaped and finally eliminated, which this paper intends to explore by making an analysis of the historical roles and limitations of this system.
