Good是常用形容词,词义灵活多变,搭配能力很强。通过几本权威词典提供的Good释义义项,探讨了英汉词汇意义各自的特点,提出大胆而合理的词义引申是高质量翻译不可或缺的重要环节,译者应选择恰当的具有引申意义的汉语词来表达或根据上下文的逻辑关系进行引申转义,甚至再引申再创"义",以使原文的思想表达得更加准确,译文更加通顺流畅。
The word 'good' is a widely-used adjective in English.Its meanings are flexible and its collocations are changeable.Based on the meanings of English word 'good'offered by several authoritative dictionaries,the paper examines the connotative features of both English and Chinese words and proposes that high-quality versions need bold yet reasonable extended meanings of English words. Translators should select those corresponding Chinese words appropriate for the connotative meanings of English words,or extend the meanings or even create the meanings to satisfy the accurate expression of the text and the smoothness of the versions according to the specific context.
