摘要
《嘉莉妹妹》讲述了一位农村女孩到城市谋生最后成为名演员的故事。通过嘉莉由贫至富,赫斯特由盛至衰的对照命运暴露美国贫富对立的社会本质,说明了在以金钱为中心的美国资本主义社会里不可能有真正的幸福。大量运用对比、象征修辞手法是本文写作特色之一。本文主要对其进行分析评论,看它们是如何起到映射现实、刻画人物和刻画环境进而揭示主题的作用。
Sister Carrie tells the story about a country girl who came to a big city.to make a
living and finally succeeded in becoming a famous player, which exposes the social nature, a big
gap between the rich and the pool in American society by the sharp contrast of Carrie's success.
and Huistwood's declining, which illustrates that it is impossible to.possess ture happiness in a
money-oriented capitalism society. As this novel is characteried by a great deal of application of
contrast and symbolism. This essay mainly analyzes and comments on how they reflect the reili--
ty, portrait characters and describe environment, which reveals the theme of the novel.
