The paper describes an investigation made among 700 healthy children, adults and the aged in the pastoral area and the city of Inner Mongolia. The content of 11 trace elements in the hair and its relation to health, disease, and ageing have been studied. The result has shown that the content of Zn in herdsman's hair is commonly more than that of Zn in the dwellers' hair in the city. However, Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, Mo, V, Se, Al are generaing more in the dwellers' hair in the city group than in the pastoral area group. The herdsmen are easier to suffer from nerve and heart diseases than the dwellers in the city the average life expectancy of the herdsman is short, too. This may be due to the shortage trace elements man needs. The nutrient taken is not enough and too simple.
