Obesity-induced type 2 diabetes is mainly due to excessive free fatty acids leading to insulin resistance.Increasing thermogenesis is regarded as an effective strategy for hypolipidemia and hypoglycemia.Ginsenoside is...Obesity-induced type 2 diabetes is mainly due to excessive free fatty acids leading to insulin resistance.Increasing thermogenesis is regarded as an effective strategy for hypolipidemia and hypoglycemia.Ginsenoside is a natural active component in Panax ginseng C.A.Meyer,and some of them enhance thermogenesis.However,there are few studies on the mechanism and target of ginsenosides enhancing thermogenesis.Using thermogenic protein uncoupling protein 1(UCP1)-luciferase reporter assay,we identifi ed ginsenoside F1 as a novel UCP1 activator in the ginsenosides library.Using pull down assay and inhibitor interference,we found F1 binds toβ3-adrenergic receptors(β3-AR)to enhance UCP1 expression via cAMP/PKA/CREB pathway.We also investigated the ability of F1 on energy metabolism in obesity-induced diabetic mice,including body weight,body composition and energy expenditure.The results of proteomics showed that F1 signifi cantly up-regulated thermogenesis proteins and lipolytic proteins,but down-regulated fatty acid synthesis proteins.Ginsenoside F1 increased thermogenesis and ameliorated insulin resistance specifi cally by promoting the browning of white adipose tissue in obese mice.Additionally,ginsenoside F1 improves norepinephrine-induced insulin resistance in adipocytes and hepatocytes,and shows a stronger mitochondria respiration ability than norepinephrine.These fi ndings suggest that ginsenoside F1 is a promising lead compound in the improvement of insulin resistance.展开更多
Recently,the fast frequency response(FFR)service by large-scale battery energy storage systems(BESSs)has been successfully proved to arrest the frequency excursion during an unexpected power outage.However,adequate fr...Recently,the fast frequency response(FFR)service by large-scale battery energy storage systems(BESSs)has been successfully proved to arrest the frequency excursion during an unexpected power outage.However,adequate frequency response relies on proper evaluation of the contingency reserve of BESSs.The BESS FFR reserve is commonly managed under fixed contracts,ignoring various response characteristics of different BESSs and their coexisting interactions.This paper proposes a new methodology based on dynamic grid response and various BESS response characteristics to optimise the FFR reserves and prevent the frequency from breaching the under-frequency load shedding(UFLS)thresholds.The superiority of the proposed method is demonstrated to manage three large-scale BESSs operating simultaneously in an Australian power grid under high renewable penetration scenarios.Further,the proposed method can identify remaining battery power and energy reserve to be safely utilised for other grid services(e.g.,energy arbitrage).The results can provide valuable insights for integrating FFR into conventional ancillary services and techno-effective management of multiple BESSs.展开更多
Understanding power system dynamics after an event occurs is essential for the purpose of online stability assessment and control applications.Wide area measurement systems(WAMS)based on synchrophasors make power syst...Understanding power system dynamics after an event occurs is essential for the purpose of online stability assessment and control applications.Wide area measurement systems(WAMS)based on synchrophasors make power system dynamics visible to system operators,delivering an accurate picture of overall operating conditions.However,in actual field implementations,some measurements can be inaccessible for various reasons,e.g.,most notably communication failure.To reconstruct these inaccessible measurements,in this paper,the radial basis function artificial neural network(RBF-ANN)is used to estimate the system dynamics.In order to find the best input features of the RBF-ANN model,geometric template matching(GeTeM)and quality-threshold(QT)clustering are employed from the time series analysis to compute the similarity of frequency dynamic responses in different locations of the power system.The proposed method is tested and verified on the Eastern Interconnection(EI)transmission system in the United States.The results obtained indicate that the proposed approach provides a compact and efficient RBF-ANN model that accurately estimates the inaccessible frequency dynamic responses under different operating conditions and with fewer inputs.展开更多
Substantial usage of electronic-based renewable energy resources has completely changed the dynamic behaviours and response time of power networks,which are now fundamentally different from traditional power networks ...Substantial usage of electronic-based renewable energy resources has completely changed the dynamic behaviours and response time of power networks,which are now fundamentally different from traditional power networks dominated by Synchronous Generators(SGs).This paper evaluates the dynamic response of small-scale Photovoltaic(PV)inverters,which dominate the distribution networks and influence the dynamics of the entire power grid.Recently,some critical events which occurred in Australia have shown that the dynamic responses of small-scale inverters do not always follow the inverter standards.Subsequently,these uncertainties make PV inverters’response unpredictable and have the potential to threaten the security of power networks.The detailed investigation of the dynamic response characteristics of small-scale PV inverters to grid disturbances is lacking in the current literature.This paper presents new findings from experimental testing under extensive network disturbance scenarios.Furthermore,a datadriven method is proposed to accurately describe the dynamics of solar PV subjected to various frequency disturbances.The results provide beneficial insight to the network operators in predicting power system response to extreme disturbances and avoiding potential grid instability issues,which will assist in achieving 100%penetration of power electronics-based renewable energy resources in the future.展开更多
