Association between composite dietary antioxidant index and stroke among individuals with diabetes

BACKGROUND Recent research has underscored the potentially protective role of dietary antioxidants against chronic conditions,such as cardiovascular diseases and stroke.The composite dietary antioxidant index(CDAI),which reflects the overall intake of key dietary antioxidants,has been identified as a crucial metric for exploring this relationship.Although previous research has shown a negative correlation between CDAI levels and stroke risk in prediabetic individuals,there remains a substantial gap in understanding this association among individuals with diabetes,who are at an inherently greater risk for cerebrovascular events.AIM To investigate the association between CDAI and stroke risk in individuals with diabetes.METHODS Using a cross-sectional study design,this investigation analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey spanning from 2003 to 2018 that included 6735 participants aged over 20 years with diabetes.The CDAI was calculated from 24-h dietary recalls to assess intake of key antioxidants:Vitamins A,C,and E;carotenoids;selenium;and zinc.Multivariate logistic regression and restricted cubic spline analysis were used to rigorously examine the relationship between CDAI and stroke risk.RESULTS The participant cohort,with an average age of 59.5 years and a slight male majority,reflected the broader demographic characteristics of individuals with diabetes.The analysis revealed a strong inverse relationship between CDAI levels and stroke risk.Remarkably,those in the highest quintile of CDAI demonstrated a 43%lower prevalence of stroke compared to those in the lowest quintile,even after adjustments for various confounders.This finding not only highlights the negative association between CDAI and stroke risk but also underscores the significant potential of antioxidant-rich diets in reducing stroke prevalence among patients with diabetes.CONCLUSION Our findings suggested that CDAI was inversely associated with stroke prevalence among patients with diabetes.These results suggest incorporating antioxidant-rich foods into dietary regimens as a potential strategy for stroke prevention. 展开更多

BACKGROUND The glycemic control of children with type 1 diabetes(T1D)may be influenced by the economic status of their parents.AIM To investigate the association between parental economic status and blood glucose levels of children with T1D using a mobile health application.METHODS Data from children with T1D in China's largest T1D online community,Tang-TangQuan■.Blood glucose levels were uploaded every three months and parental economic status was evaluated based on annual household income.Children were divided into three groups:Low-income(<30000 Yuan),middle-income(30000-100000 Yuan),and high-income(>100000 yuan)(1 Yuan=0.145 United States Dollar approximately).Blood glucose levels were compared among the groups and associations were explored using Spearman’s correlation analysis and multivariable logistic regression.RESULTS From September 2015 to August 2022,1406 eligible children with T1D were included(779 female,55.4%).Median age was 8.1 years(Q1-Q3:4.6-11.6)and duration of T1D was 0.06 years(0.02-0.44).Participants were divided into three groups:Low-income(n=320),middle-income(n=724),and high-income(n=362).Baseline hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)levels were comparable among the three groups(P=0.072).However,at month 36,the low-income group had the highest HbA1c levels(P=0.036).Within three years after registration,glucose levels increased significantly in the low-income group but not in the middle-income and high-income groups.Parental economic status was negatively correlated with pre-dinner glucose(r=-0.272,P=0.012).After adjustment for confounders,parental economic status remained a significant factor related to pre-dinner glucose levels(odds ratio=13.02,95%CI:1.99 to 126.05,P=0.002).CONCLUSION The blood glucose levels of children with T1D were negatively associated with parental economic status.It is suggested that parental economic status should be taken into consideration in the management of T1D for children. 展开更多

BACKGROUND PD-1 inhibitors in combination with fruquintinib have not previously been reported as neoadjuvant therapy for patients with colorectal cancer.In this case report,the combination of a PD-1 inhibitor and fruquintinib demonstrated good efficacy in patients with MSI-H colorectal cancer.CASE SUMMARY The patient was a young man in his 30s who had MSI-H type colon cancer.The patient underwent four cycles of neoadjuvant therapy with a PD-1 inhibitor combined with fruquintinib before surgery,resulting in regression of the mass and a successful surgery.CONCLUSION Some patients with colorectal cancer have the MSI-H type,and the first-line chemotherapy regimen is not effective.However,PD-1 monoclonal antibody immunotherapy has a good therapeutic effect,which can be improved by combination therapy with fruquintinib.We recommend that patients with a history of colon or rectal cancer receive universal MSI testing;then,neoadjuvant therapy should be used. 展开更多

Lithium metal batteries(LMBs) with a high theoretical capacity are seen as a type of the most potential energy storage system.Unfortunately,the growth of lithium dendrite,the irreversible side reactions,and the infinite volume alteration still curb the practical utilization of lithium metal anodes,resulting in low Coulombic efficiency(CE) and safety problems,etc.Herein,we synthesize a lithiophilic 3D copper foam host with uniformly distributed nano-flower-like ZnO particles(CuF/ZnO) and obtain the composite lithium metal anode containing the Li_(2)O,LiZn alloy,and pure Li by the infusion of molten Li(CuF/Li_(2)O-LiZn@Li).Benefitting from the advantages of the 3D structure of copper foam and the lithiophilicity of ZnO sites,the composite lithium metal anode can restrain the volume alternation and regulate the uniform deposition of lithium.The symmetrical cells of the composite lithium metal anode have a 1600 h long cycle life with a low polarization voltage of 15 mV,and the Coulombic efficiency can maintain about 97.8% at 1.0 mA·cm^(-2),1.0mAh·cm^(-2). 展开更多

The nano-Ag paste consisted of Ag nanoparticles and organic solvents.These organics would be removed by evaporation or decomposition during sintering.When the sintering temperature was 300℃,the resistivity of sintered bulk was 8.35×10^-6Ωcm,and its thermal conductivity was 247 W m^-1 K^-1.The Si/SiC chips and direct bonding copper(DBC)substrates could be bonded by this nano-Ag paste at low temperature.The bonding interface,sintered microstructure and shear strength of Si/SiC chip attachment were investigated by scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscopy and shear tests.Results showed that the sintered Ag layer was porous structure and tightly adhered to the electroless nickel immersion gold surface of DBC substrate and formed the continuous Ag–Au interdiffusion layer.The shear strength of Si and SiC chip attachments was higher than 35 MPa when the sintering pressure was 10 MPa.The fracture occurred inside the sintered Ag layer,and the fracture surface had obvious plastic deformation. 展开更多

In the prevailing incineration processes of municipal solid waste,the presence of polyvinyl chloride(PVC)may cause environmental problems.The energy-intensive ironmaking sector in the iron and steel industry operates at high temperature and under high reduction potential with the function of energy conversion,which can provide a potential path for the collaborative utilization of waste plastics in large quantities and low cost.The gasification of the char formed from PVC when processed in the ironmaking sector is significant for the development of the related technologies.Thus,the gasification experiment of PVC char and traditional carbonaceous materials was performed by thermogravimetric analysis.The results indicated that the gasification ability decreased in the sequence of PVC char>anthracite coal>coke>graphite.Then,kinetics were also analyzed by Coats-Redfern and Doyle approximations.The PVC char showed the best gasification ability with the smallest activation energy,ranging from 87.18 to 117.52 kJ/mol,and the smaller graphitization degree of PVC char compared with other carbonaceous materials should be the main reason for its excellent gasification reactivity. 展开更多
