As the oldest venomous animals,centipedes use their venom as a weapon to attack prey and for protection.Centipede venom,which contains many bioactive and pharmacologically active compounds,has been used for centuries ...As the oldest venomous animals,centipedes use their venom as a weapon to attack prey and for protection.Centipede venom,which contains many bioactive and pharmacologically active compounds,has been used for centuries in Chinese medicine,as shown by ancient records.Based on comparative analysis,we revealed the diversity of and differences in centipede toxin-like molecules between Scolopendra mojiangica,a substitute pharmaceutical material used in China,and S.subspinipes mutilans.More than 6000 peptides isolated from the venom were identified by electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry(ESI-MS/MS)and inferred from the transcriptome.As a result,in the proteome of S.mojiangica,246 unique proteins were identified:one in five were toxin-like proteins or putative toxins with unknown function,accounting for a lower percentage of total proteins than that in S.mutilans.Transcriptome mining identified approximately 10 times more toxin-like proteins,which can characterize the precursor structures of mature toxinlike peptides.However,the constitution and quantity of the toxin transcripts in these two centipedes were similar.In toxicity assays,the crude venom showed strong insecticidal and hemolytic activity.These findings highlight the extensive diversity of toxin-like proteins in S.mojiangica and provide a new foundation for the medical-pharmaceutical use of centipede toxin-like proteins.展开更多
We design an actively tunable polarization-sensitive multiband absorber in the mid-infrared region,which consists of stacked graphene multilayers separated by dielectric layers on a metal mirror.Benefiting from the an...We design an actively tunable polarization-sensitive multiband absorber in the mid-infrared region,which consists of stacked graphene multilayers separated by dielectric layers on a metal mirror.Benefiting from the anisotropic structure,the absorber has dual absorption bands with almost perfect absorption at different wavelengths under the x and y polarizations.Analyzing the electric field amplitude distributions and the surface currents,we find that the absorption peaks under the same polarization are excited in the graphene layers independently.Therefore,more absorption bands can be achieved by increasing the graphene layers.Adjusting the Fermi energy of the graphene layers,the working wavelengths of the polarization-sensitive multiband absorbers can be tuned actively,and thus achieving a wide band regulation range.Besides,the peak number and the peak strength of the multiband absorber can be actively controlled by the polarization angle as well.We also propose a method to design an actively tunable polarization-sensitive multiband absorber,which may have potential applications in mid-infrared devices,such as polarization-sensitive filters and detectors.展开更多
Self-healing materials(SHMs)with unique mechanical and electronic properties are promising for self-reparable electronics and robots.However,the self-healing ability of emerging two-dimensional(2D)materials,for instan...Self-healing materials(SHMs)with unique mechanical and electronic properties are promising for self-reparable electronics and robots.However,the self-healing ability of emerging two-dimensional(2D)materials,for instance,MXenes,has not been systematically investigated,which limits their applications in self-healing electronics.Herein,we report the homogeneous self-healing assembly(homoSHA)of MXene and the heterogeneous self-healing assembly(hetero-SHA)of MXene and graphene oxide(GO)under moisture treatments.The self-healing mechanism has been attributed to the hydration induced interlayer swelling of MXene and GO and the recombination of hydrogen bond networks after water desorption.The multiform hetero-SHA of MXene and GO not only enables facile fabrication of free-standing soft electronics and robots,but also endows the resultant devices with damage-healing properties.As proof-of-concept demonstrations,free-standing soft electronic devices including a generator,a humidity sensor,a pressure sensor,and several robotic devices have been fabricated.The hetero-SHA of MXene and GO is simple yet effective,and it may pioneer a new avenue to develop miniature soft electronics and robots based on 2D materials.展开更多
Pulmonary embolism(PE)patients have a high recurrence rate of venous thromboembolism(VTE)and recurrences are more often fatal.Recurrence can be effectively prevented by prolonged anticoagulation treatment,but the risk...Pulmonary embolism(PE)patients have a high recurrence rate of venous thromboembolism(VTE)and recurrences are more often fatal.Recurrence can be effectively prevented by prolonged anticoagulation treatment,but the risk of bleeding also increases.Consequently,risk assessment of VTE recurrence is important in PE patients,as high-risk patients will benefit from long-term anticoagulation treatment,whereas low-risk patients will unnecessarily be exposed to an increased bleeding risk.Several risk factors for VTE recurrence have been identified in non-Asian populations,including male gender,advanced age,thrombophilia,obesity,persistent elevation of D-dimer one month after discontinuation of anticoagulation and residual thrombosis.However,risk factors for VTE recurrence have not been clearly evaluated in Chinese and Asian populations.A recent study found that the European Society of Cardiology(ESC)risk stratification for PE patients(2008 version),which is used to assess the disease severity of acute PE patients,was associated with VTE recurrence.[1]The simplified pulmonary embolism severity index(sPESI)is also widely validated for the assessment of disease severity of PE,has good prognostic value for early and even long-term mortality.It is less clear whether the model predicts VTE recurrence.The aim of this prospective study was to investigate the short-term and long-term incidence of recurrent VTE after a first episode of acute PE and associated risk factors of recurrent VTE.The association between VTE recurrence and disease severity assessed by sPESI was also evaluated.展开更多
In this paper,we study the higher-order generalized Ginzburg–Landau model which contributes to describing the propagation of optical solitons in fibers.By means of the Hirota bilinear method,the analytical solutions ...In this paper,we study the higher-order generalized Ginzburg–Landau model which contributes to describing the propagation of optical solitons in fibers.By means of the Hirota bilinear method,the analytical solutions are obtained and the effect of relevant parameters is analyzed.Modulated by the near parity-time-symmetric potentials,the nonlinear modes with 5%initial random noise are numerically simulated to possess stable evolution.Furthermore,the evolution of nonlinear modes is displayed through the adiabatical change of some parameters.The investigation of the present work is intended as a contribution to the work for the higher-order generalized Ginzburg–Landau model.展开更多
