Pandemics have always been a nightmare for humanity, especially in developing countries.Forced lockdowns are considered one of the effective ways to deal with spreading such pandemics.Still, developing countries cannot afford such solutions because these may severely damage the country’s econ-omy.Therefore,this study presents the proactive technological mechanisms for business organizations to run their standard business processes during pandemic-like situations smoothly. The novelty of this study is to provide a state-of-the-art solution to prevent pandemics using industrial internet of things(IIoT)and blockchain-enabled technologies.Compared to existing studies, the immutable and tamper-proof contact tracing and quarantine management solution is proposed. The use of advanced technologies and information security is a critical area for practitioners in the internet of things(IoT)and corresponding solutions. Therefore, this study also emphasizes information security,end-to-end solution, and experimental results.Firstly,a wearable wristband is proposed, incorporating 4G-enabled ultra-wideband(UWB)technology for smart contact tracing mechanisms in industries to comply with standard operating procedures outlined by the world health organization(WHO).Secondly, distributed ledger technology(DLT)omits the centralized dependency for transmitting contact tracing data.Thirdly,a privacy-preserving tracing mechanism is discussed using a public/private key cryptography-based authentication mechanism.Lastly, based on geofencing techniques,blockchain-enabled machine-to-machine(M2M)technology is proposed for quarantine management. The step-by-step methodology and test results are proposed to ensure contact tracing and quarantine management.Unlike existing research studies, the security aspect is also considered in the realm of blockchain. The practical implementation of the proposed solution also obtains the results. The results indicate the successful implementation of blockchain-enabled contact tracing and isolation management using IoT and geo-fencing techniques, which could help battle pandemic situations.Researchers can also consider the 5G-enabled narrowband internet of things(NB-IoT)technologies to implement contact tracing solutions. 展开更多

The fourth most predominant overwhelming type of trauma is burn injuries worldwide.Ideal wound healing dressings help in the wound healing process in a lower time with less pain.Commonly used dry wound dressing, like absorbent gauze or absorbent cotton, possess limited therapeutic effects and require repeated use, which further exaggerates patients’suffering. In contrast, hydrogels films present a promising alternative to improve healing by guaranteeing a moisture balance at the wound site. The aim of the current study was to synthesize Tamarix aphylla(T.aphylla)extract-loaded hydrogel film with Na-CMC and pectin and to study their wound healing properties. The Na-CMC/Pectin hydrogels films were synthesized and characterized for HPLC analysis,FTIR,surface morphology, rheology, tensile strength, swelling behavior, drug release kinetics, and in vivo wound healing in an animal model.FTIR confirmed the existence of strong interaction between both polymers but no interaction with the extract.SEM photographs showed successful embedding of extract in small pores of hydrogel film and showed smooth and homogenous morphology.Rheological and texture profiles indicated that hydrogels behaved as strong gels.Swelling and erosion were dependent on the amount of the CMC.HPLC showed drug content of three selected formulation(A3,E3 and S3)as 85±0.1%,82.5±0.4%and 80±0.3%,respectively.The release of the drug from the hydrogel was controlled by a Fickian diffusion mechanism. In vivo wound healing activity of hydrogel film confirmed that T.aphylla extract successfully promoted healing rate by significantly reducing(P<0.05)the size of wound closure compared to the control group, evidenced by intensive collagen formation in histopathological and biochemical analysis. The capability of these hydrogels for burn wounds could be valuable for medical uses as a new window of safe and effective medication. 展开更多

Gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM)is defined as any degree of glucose or carbohydrate intolerance mainly during pregnancy.About 10%to 15%of pregnancies are affected and complicated by gestational diabetes.Due to hormonal changes during pregnancy, the requirement for insulin increases, and thus the usual concentration of insulin previously catered for glycemic control is ineffective. In order to meet the body’s demand, the islet cells secrete a higher amount of insulin.GDM occurs when this higher concentration is also unable to control blood glucose. This increased resistance toward insulin is most noticeable during the third trimester of pregnancy, which gradually normalizes after the termination of pregnancy.Various complications do arise, which affect both the mother and her developing fetus. In the mother, miscarriages, delivery of baby via caesarian section, and other complications may result, whereas the fetus may be affected with congenital abnormalities, neonatal hypoglycemia, and even death.Treatment of GDM includes both non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions.Pharmacological agents are employed when non-pharmacological interventions fail to achieve the desired target.Glyburide, insulin, and metformin are the commonly used pharmacological agents. 展开更多

Diabetes is a cosmopolitan medical issue ramifying a large population regardless of ethnicity.Elevated glycemic condition in a patient is explained as diabetes. It can be mainly categorized into Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus(NIDDM)and Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus(IDDM)or Type 1 or Type 2 respectively.Type 1 or IDDM needs insulin therapy exclusively while Type 2 can be controlled via various hypoglycemic agents.Conventional classes contain glitazones, biguanides, sulfonylurea’s and soon, while newly developed drug classes include gliptins or DPP-4 inhibitors,SGLT-2 receptor inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists. The novelty in the anti-hyperglycemic agents have given promising results as compared to the conventional drugs.Insulin cannot be negated as far as its glycemic control is concerned.Furthermore, development of Insulin analogues like detemir, glargine,Lisprohave been shown to control glucose levels in the plasma more efficiently. 展开更多
