Effect of Different Mulch Materials on Yield and Nutrition Profile of Common Capsicum (Capsicum annuum) Cultivars in Bangladesh

Capsicum is a nutritious vegetable and its cultivation in farms is getting popular in Bangladesh. Although many efforts have lain to explore better yielding and nutritionally rich cultivars with suitable modern cultivation techniques but still have to find the desired outcome. Thus, it’s necessary to conduct further research to identify the high-yielding and nutritious capsicum cultivars in Bangladesh. An experiment was conducted from July 2021 to June 2022 at the Bangladesh Institute of Research and Training on Applied Nutrition (BIRTAN) research field with three cultivars of capsicum: B<sub>0</sub> = California Wonder, B<sub>1</sub> = BARI Misti Morich-1 and B<sub>2</sub> = BARI Misti Morich-2 and three mulching: T<sub>0</sub> = No mulching, T<sub>1</sub> = Water hyacinth, T<sub>2</sub> = Poly Mulching in randomized complete block design with three replications to identify better quality capsicum cultivar and suitable mulching material. Among cultivars the BARI Misti Morich-2 (B<sub>2</sub>) showed increased agronomic parameters like number of branches and effective branches per plant, leaves length and width, consequently yield and yield contributing traits were also enhanced like fruits per plant, fruit length, fruit diameter and yield per plant (25.97%, 4.54%, 3.64% and 21.43%, respectively). Poly Mulching (T<sub>2</sub>) increased agronomic traits, yield traits and yield (0.61 kg) than BARI Misti Morich-1 (T<sub>1</sub>). The combined effect of B<sub>2</sub>T<sub>2</sub> increased the number of branches per plant, effective branches per plant, leaves length and breadth by 40%, 90%, 15.57% and 26.22%, respectively, hence resulting in an increased yield of 20%. BARI Misti Morich-2 cultivar showed an increase in Fe, Zn and Vitamin-C content of 26.24% and 23.10%, 8.82% and 5.14%, and 6.03% and 5.74% than B0 and B1 cultivars, respectively. Therefore, BARI Misti Morich-2 exhibited the improved agronomic, yield and nutritional traits of capsicum under poly mulching among other cultivars in Bangladesh. 展开更多

Awareness and Practice on Household Solid Waste Management among the Community People

Community people can play a pivotal role in managing household solid waste. <strong>Objectives:</strong> This study was aimed to assess the awareness and practice of household solid waste management among the people living in the Mugda community in Dhaka. <strong>Methods:</strong> A descriptive co-relational study design was used. A total of 112 participants were selected with the convenience sampling technique. The data collection period was from July 2019 to June 2020. The data were collected from the participants by face-to-face interview through the door-to-door survey by using a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed by using descriptive, Pearson correlation, t-test, and one-way ANOVA statistics. <strong>Results: </strong>Finding of the study shows that the mean awareness regarding household solid waste management was 7.96 (SD = 1.64) and the mean practice was 2.94 (SD = 1.35) respectively. It indicates that the awareness and practice of community people were at a moderate level. In bivariate analysis, it has been shown that training on household solid waste management (“P < 0.001”), and recyclable waste (p = 0.019) were statistically significantly correlated with household solid waste management practice. <strong>Conclusion: </strong>Overall awareness and practice level of household solid waste management were at a moderate level among the community people. Training on household solid waste management and recyclable waste management were statistically significantly correlated with household solid waste management. Policymakers can use this baseline data to make a strategy for increasing awareness among the community people. 展开更多

Quality of Life of Chronic Heart Failure Patients

<strong>Background:</strong> Chronic Heart Failure is a complex clinical conditions affecting patients’ Quality of Life (QoL) globally. <strong>Objective:</strong> The aim of the study was to ... <strong>Background:</strong> Chronic Heart Failure is a complex clinical conditions affecting patients’ Quality of Life (QoL) globally. <strong>Objective:</strong> The aim of the study was to identify the factors influencing the quality of life of the chronic heart failure patients. <strong>Methods:</strong> A descriptive exploratory study was carried out by face-to-face interview with structured standard questionnaire. One hundred and forty two hospitalized chronic heart failure patients were conveniently recruited from National Institute of Cardiovascular Disease and Hospital, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Data were collected from January to February, 2019. Quality of life related factors were identified using Patients’ General Characteristics Questionnaire. QOL of chronic heart failure patients was measured by the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire (MLHFQ) and the World Health Organization’s Quality of Life Instrument-Short Version (WHOQOL-BREF). Descriptive statistic was used to describe the samples’ characteristics. Association between Socio-demographic characteristics and QOL of chronic heart failure patients was measured using t-test and one way of ANOVA. Relationship between continuous variables was measured by Pearson correlation test. <strong>Results:</strong> Findings reveal that mean of the total chronic heart failure related quality of life was 94.16 (SD = 3.20) out of maximum of 105. This high score indicates worsen chronic heart failure patients’ quality of life. The mean score of general quality of life of chronic heart failure patients was calculated as 41.05 (SD = 5.109) out of maximum of 130 which indicates low level of general quality of life of chronic heart failure patients. There is a significant positive correlation found between disease related quality of life and general quality of life of chronic heart failure patients. Dimensions of physical (r = 0.248, p = 0.000), mental (r = <span style="white-space:nowrap;">&#8722;</span>0.180, p < 0.001) and total (r = <span style="white-space:nowrap;">&#8722;</span>0.141, p < 0.001) of MLHFQ were significantly correlated with psychological dimension of WHOQOL-BREF except total two dimensions of its. Gender, marital status, education, income, smoking, residence and BMI were identified as factors having an effect on QOL of Chronic Heart Failure patients. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> Further intervention study is necessary to improve the quality of life of chronic heart failure patients. 展开更多

The proposed modified model is analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Analytic conditions for stability and optimality are determined for washout and no washout equilibrium solutions. One of the main focuses of the study is to determine parameter values for which Hopf Bifurcations occur in a bioreactor. It has been shown that the maximum stable non-washout equilibrium exits at a residence time under suitable parameter values. Staphylococcus aureus infection remains an increasing problem for higher morbidity and mortality in burn patients. We sought to determine the frequency of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) in burn wound patients and study their drug resistance genes. Samples were collected (August 2010 to October 2011) from burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Bangladesh. MRSA was identified by conventional culture based methods. S. aureus was confirmed in 44.44% burn wound samples and 22.5% of the isolates were oxacillin resistant. All the S. aureus isolates were resistant to commonly used drugs like amoxicillin, azactam, erythromycin, azithromycin etc. and were sensitive to imipenem. The isolates were devoid of plasmid and the gene mecA, femA and IS431 were detected in their chromosomal DNA. Computational analysis of mecA gene sequence showed homology to S. aureus “penicillin binding protein 2a” (PBP-2a). The higher association of MRSA is in burn unit of DMCH, Bangladesh is alarming and with inappropriate antibiotic use, and the situation gets even complicated to treat. Therefore, the detection system and control practices for MRSA in DMCH should be improved in the hospital settings. 展开更多

The three subsystems focus on off... Handwritten signature and character recognition has become challenging research topic due to its numerous applications. In this paper, we proposed a system that has three sub-systems. The three subsystems focus on offline recognition of handwritten English alphabetic characters (uppercase and lowercase), numeric characters (0 - 9) and individual signatures respectively. The system includes several stages like image preprocessing, the post-processing, the segmentation, the detection of the required amount of the character and signature, feature extraction and finally Neural Network recognition. At first, the scanned image is filtered after conversion of the scanned image into a gray image. Then image cropping method is applied to detect the signature. Then an accurate recognition is ensured by post-processing the cropped images. MATLAB has been used to design the system. The subsystems are then tested for several samples and the results are found satisfactory at about 97% success rate. The quality of the image plays a vital role as the images of poor or mediocre quality may lead to unsuccessful recognition and verification. 展开更多

Now-a-days a lot of modifications are taking place throughout the world to develop the existing highway materials to fulfill the demand of increased vehicles.People are at trend to innovate something new that can do better than it was.Some materials produce good effect and enhance the strength as well as qualities of bitumen.On the other hand,some materials are responsible for adverse effect on the bitumen.In saline areas like coastal regions,the salts play a significant role on the bituminous pavements.Sea water nearly contains 3%sodium chloride and evaporation of intake bodies of water has produced large and extensive deposits of it.We can be economically benefited if salt is used as an admixture to bitumen.But we do not even know the impact,good or bad of the mixing of salt with bitumen.The main objective of this paper to find out whether it is desirable or not taking various proportion salt with bitumen and doing specified test of bitumen.It is observed from the laboratory test that the penetration and ductility values are gradually increased with increased of salt content.The flash point,fire point and softening point value are stepwise reduced as percentage of salt content increased.Moreover it reduces the stability of roads.Mixing of salt to bitumen upgrades workability and it is beneficial in the economical point of view.Finally moisture effect test on the bituminous mix with the inclusion of salts show the degradation of strength due to moisture movement. 展开更多

So the effect of EM is an important issue in applications where high current densities are used, such as in microelectronics and related structures (e.g., Power ICs). Since the structure size of integrated circuits (ICs) decreases and the practical significance of this effect increases, the result is EM failure. On the other hand, in the next generation power electronics technology electrical current density is expected to exceed 10<sup>7</sup> A/cm<sup>2</sup> which is another challenge.
