The sustainable development of border port-cities is of considerable significance to the stabilization and consolidation of border areas,unlike coastal-ports cities that consist of coastal ports and cities.Border port...The sustainable development of border port-cities is of considerable significance to the stabilization and consolidation of border areas,unlike coastal-ports cities that consist of coastal ports and cities.Border ports should continue to drive the development of their surrounding towns to provide high-quality living conditions,employment,and housing for inhabitants of such towns and enhance the population agglomeration capacity of border areas.This study aimed to analyze the structure of employment and settlement in the cities surrounding the Khorgas Port at the different stages of its development—employing semi-structured interviews with individuals to analyze the spatial orientation characteristics of the daily needs of different groups of people and reveal the ways in which border ports drive the development of their surrounding towns—and recommend ways in which this can be improved.This study finds that as the Khorgas Port’s mutual trade market,industrial base,comprehensive management,and other functions continue to grow,the port is becoming increasingly important.As more people work and settl in the surrounding towns,their living needs also increase.However,a considerable number of employed people do not live nearby,and many living needs are not being addressed in the towns surrounding the port.The study also reveals the living services demands of government management personnel who work at the port on weekdays and return to Yining City on weekends,employees of industrial enterprises who work at the port and return home for the New Year’s celebration,and government management personnel and individual business personnel who work at the port and live nearby.In the future,the focus should be on improving the living conditions of the inhabitants of the towns surrounding Khorgas Port,including public services and the settlement ability of employees of industrial enterprises to better realize the radiation drive of the port on the surrounding towns.展开更多
Plant microRNAs(miRNAs)play important roles in biological processes such as development and stress responses.Although the diverse functions of miRNAs in model organisms have been well studied,their function in wild ri...Plant microRNAs(miRNAs)play important roles in biological processes such as development and stress responses.Although the diverse functions of miRNAs in model organisms have been well studied,their function in wild rice is poorly understood.In this study,high-throughput small RNA sequencing was performed to characterize tissue-specific transcriptomes in Oryza longistaminata.A total of 603 miRNAs,380 known rice miRNAs,72 conserved plant miRNAs,and151 predicted novel miRNAs were identified as being expressed in aerial shoots and rhizomes.Additionally,99 and 79 miRNAs were expressed exclusively or differentially,respectively,in the two tissues,and 144 potential targets were predicted for the differentially expressed miRNAs in the rhizomes.Functional annotation of these targets suggested that transcription factors,including squamosa promoter binding proteins and auxin response factors,function in rhizome growth and development.The expression levels of several miRNAs and target genes in the rhizomes were quantified by RT-PCR,and the results indicated the existence of complex regulatory mechanisms between the miRNAs and their targets.Eight target cleavage sites were verified by RNA ligase-mediated rapid 5′end amplification.These results provide valuable information on the composition,expression and function of miRNAs in O.longistaminata,and will aid in understanding the molecular mechanisms of rhizome development.展开更多
BACKGROUND Arterial stiffness,as assessed by aortic ultrasound and pulse wave velocity,is associated with incident hypertension.However,there is still no consensus on whether the augmentation index(AI)affects new onse...BACKGROUND Arterial stiffness,as assessed by aortic ultrasound and pulse wave velocity,is associated with incident hypertension.However,there is still no consensus on whether the augmentation index(AI)affects new onset of hypertension.This study investigated the relationship of radial AI(r AI)and incident hypertension in a Chinese community-based population without hypertension at baseline.METHOD A total of 1,615 Chinese non-hypertensive participants from an atherosclerosis cohort in Beijing,China were included in our analysis.Baseline r AI normalized to heart rate of 75 beats/min(r AIp75)was obtained using HEM-9000 AI.New-onset hypertension was defined as blood pressure≥140/90 mm Hg or self-reported hypertension or taking anti-hypertensive medications at the follow up survey.Multivariate regression models were used to evaluate the impact of r AIp75 on the risk of new-onset hypertension.RESULTS After a mean 2.35-year follow-up,213(13.19%)participants developed incident hypertension.No significant relation between r AIp75 and incident hypertension was observed in the whole population after adjustment for possible confounders(adjusted odds ratio(OR)and 95%confidence interval(CI):1.09[0.95-1.27];P=0.2260).However,r AIp75 was significantly associated with incident hypertension in women,but not in men(adjusted OR and 95%CI:1.29[1.06-1.56],P=0.0113 for women;0.91[0.72-1.15],P=0.4244 for men;P for interaction=0.0133).CONCLUSIONS Sex modified the effect of the r AI on incident hypertension in a Chinese,community-based,non-hypertensive population.Screening of the r AI could be considered in women with a high risk of hypertension for the purpose of primary intervention.展开更多
