We recorded perioperative factors with the potential to influence functional outcome including duration from the injury to intervention; causes for ocular trauma; open globe or closed globe injury; grade of vitreous hemorrhage; grade of endophthalmitis; grade of retinal detachment; size and location of intraocular foreign body (IOFB); extent and position of retinal defect; grade of proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR); type of surgery; perioperative complications and tamponade agent. The follow-up time was from 3 to 18 months, and the mean time was 12 months.RESULTS: After a mean follow-up period of 12 months (3-18 months) 10.53% (2/19) of eyes had visual acuity of between 20/60 and 20/400, 52.63% (10/19) had visual acuity less than 20/400 but more than NLP, and 36.84% (7/19) remained NLP. Visual acuity was improved from NLP to light perception (LP) or better in 63.16% (12/19) of eyes and the rate of complete retinal reattachment was 73.68% (14/19). Good visual acuity all resulted from those patients of blunt trauma with intact eyewall (closed globe injury). The perioperative factors of poor visual acuity prognosis included delayed intervention; open globe injury; endophthalmitis; severe retinal detachment; large IOFB; macular defect; a wide range of retinal defects andsevere PVR.CONCLUSION: The main reasons of NLP after ocular trauma are severe vitreous hemorrhage opacity; refractive media opacity; retinal detachment; retinal and uveal damages and defects, especially defects of the macula; PVR and endophthalmitis. NLP after ocular trauma in some cases does not mean permanent vision loss. Early intervention of vitrectomy combined with silicone oil tamponade and achieving retinal reattachment of the remaining retina, may make the severely traumatized eyes regain the VA of LP or better.展开更多

文摘Wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs)are important and energy-intensive municipal infrastructures.High energy consumption and relatively low operating performance are major challenges from the perspective of carbon neutrality.However,water-energy nexus analysis and models for WWTPs have rarely been reported to date.In this study,a cloud-model-based energy consumption analysis(CMECA)of a WWTP was conducted to explore the relationship between influent and energy consumption by clustering its influent’s parameters. The principal component analysis(PCA)and K-means clustering were applied to classify the influent condition using water quality and volume data. The energy consumption of the WWTP is divided into five standard evaluation levels, and its cloud digital characteristics(CDCs)were extracted according to bilateral constraints and golden ratio methods. Our results showed that the energy consumption distribution gradually dispersed and deviated from the Gaussian distribution with decreased water concentration and quantity. The days with high energy efficiency were extracted via the clustering method from the influent category of excessive energy consumption, represented by a compact-type energy consumption distribution curve to identify the influent conditions that affect the steady distribution of energy consumption. The local WWTP has high energy consumption with 0.3613 kW·h·m^(-3)despite low influent concentration and volumes, across four consumption levels from low(I)to relatively high(IV),showing an unsatisfactory operation and management level. The average oxygenation capacity, internal reflux ratio, and external reflux ratio during high energy efficiency days recognized by further clustering were obtained(0.2924-0.3703 kg O_(2)·m^(-3),1.9576-2.4787,and 0.6603-0.8361,respectively),which could be used as a guide for the days with low energy efficiency.Consequently, this study offers a water-energy nexus analysis method to identify influent conditions with operational management anomalies and can be used as an empirical reference for the optimized operation of WWTPs.

文摘BACKGROUND Helicobacter pylori(HP),the most common pathogenic microorganism in stomach, can induce inflammatory reactions in the gastric mucosa, causing chronic gastritis and even gastric cancer.HP infection affects over 4.4 billion people globally, with a worldwide infection rate of up to 50%.The multidrug resistance of HP poses a serious challenge to eradication. It has been monstrated that compared to bismuth quadruple therapy,Qingre Huashi decoction(QHD)combined with triple therapy exhibits comparable eradication rates but with a lower incidence of adverse reactions;in addition,QHD directly inhibit and kill HP in vitro.METHODS In this study,12 HP strains were isolated in vitro after biopsy during gastroscopy of HP-infected patients. In vitro, the minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)values for clinical HP strains and biofilm quantification were determined through the E-test method and crystal violet staining, respectively. The most robust biofilm-forming strain of HP was selected, and QHD was evaluated for its inhibitory and bactericidal effects on the strain with strong biofilm formation. This assessment was performed using agar dilution,E-test,killing dynamics, and transmission electron microscopy(TEM).The study also explored the impact of QHD on antibiotic resistance in these HP strains with strong biofilm formation.Crystalline violet method, scanning electron microscopy, laser confocal scanning microscopy, and(p)ppGpp chromatographic identification were employed to evaluate the effect of QHD on biofilm in strong biofilm-forming HP strains. The effect of QHD on biofilm and efflux pump-related gene expression was evaluated by quantitative polymerase chain reaction.Non-targeted metabolomics with UHPLC-MS/MS was used to identify potential metabolic pathways and biomarkers which were different between the NC and QHD groups.RESULTS HP could form biofilms of different degrees in vitro, and the intensity of formation was associated with the drug resistance of the strain.QHD had strong bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects on HP,with MICs of 32-64 mg/mL.QHD could inhibit the biofilm formation of the strong biofilm-forming HP strains, disrupt the biofilm structure, lower the accumulation of(p)ppGpp,decrease the expression of biofilm-related genes including LuxS,Spot,glup(HP1174),NapA,and CagE,and reduce the expression of efflux pump-related genes such as HP0605,HP0971,HP1327,and HP1489.Based on metabolomic analysis,QHD induced oxidative stress in HP,enhanced metabolism, and potentially inhibited relevant signaling pathways by upregulating adenosine monophosphate(AMP),thereby affecting HP growth, metabolism, and protein synthesis.CONCLUSION QHD exerts bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects on HP,and reduces HP drug resistance by inhibiting HP biofilm formation, destroying its biofilm structure, inhibiting the expression of biofilm-related genes and efflux pump-related genes, enhancing HP metabolism, and activating AMP in HP.
文摘Objectives To conduct a comprehensive analysis in Hainan centenarians on the link between sleep status and their blood pressure status.Furthermore, the study also aims to explore how inflammatory indicators may mediate the relationship. Methods The China Hainan Centenarians Cohort Study(CHCCS)collected baseline data on sleep status, inflammatory indicators, and blood pressure data. The study used a mediation model to investigate how inflammatory indicators mediate the relationship between sleep status and blood pressure status.Result In this study,a total of 967 centenarians were included. The prevalence of hypertension among the centenarians was 71.4%.The analysis showed that centenarians with poor sleep quality had a 43%higher risk of hypertension compared to those with normal sleep quality(OR=1.43,95%CI:1.03-1.97).Additionally,centenarians with nighttime sleep durations of≤6 h or>9 h had higher proportions of high pulse pressure(PP),with OR values of 1.76(95%CI:1.18-2.63)and 2.07(95%CI:1.34-3.19),respectively.Mediation analysis illustrated that complement C3 played a mediating role in the relationship between sleep quality and hypertension, with an effect ratio of 2.4%.Similarly,lymphocyte count, the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR),and the systemic immune-inflammation index(SII)were identified as mediating factors in the association between nighttime sleep duration and high PP,with effect ratios of 91.22%,36.93%,and 0.20%,respectively.Conclusion In centenarians, poor sleep quality raises the risk of hypertension, with complement C3 as a mediator.Additionally, nighttime sleep durations of≤6 h or>9 h increases the risk of high PP,mediated by lymphocyte count,NLR,and SII.

文摘Effective management of large basins necessitates pinpointing the spatial and temporal drivers of primary index exceedances and urban risk factors, offering crucial insights for basin administrators.Yet,comprehensive examinations of multiple pollutants within the Yangtze River Basin remain scarce. Here we introduce a pollution inventory for urban clusters surrounding the Yangtze River Basin, analyzing water quality data from 102 cities during 2018e2019.We assessed the exceedance rates for six pivotal indicators:dissolved oxygen(DO),ammonia nitrogen(NH_(3)-N),chemical oxygen demand(COD),biochemical oxygen demand(BOD),total phosphorus(TP),and the permanganate index(COD_(Mn))for each city.Employing random forest regression and SHapley Additive exPlanations(SHAP)analyses,we identified the spatiotemporal factors influencing these key indicators. Our results highlight agricultural activities as the primary contributors to the exceedance of all six indicators, thus pinpointing them as the leading pollution source in the basin.Additionally, forest coverage, livestock farming, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors, along with meteorological elements like precipitation and temperature, significantly impacted various indicators'exceedances.Furthermore,we delineate five core urban risk components through principal component analysis, which are(1)anthropogenic and industrial activities,(2)agricultural practices and forest extent,(3)climatic variables,(4)livestock rearing,and(5)principal polluting sectors. The cities were subsequently evaluated and categorized based on these risk components, incorporating policy interventions and administrative performance within each region. The comprehensive analysis advocates for a customized strategy in addressing the discerned risk factors, especially for cities presenting elevated risk levels.
文摘AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of surgical treatment of vitrectomy combined with silicone oil tamponade in the treatment of severely traumatized eyes with the visual acuity of no light perception (NLP).METHODS: This was a retrospective uncontrolled interventional case-series of 19 patients of severely traumatized eyes with NLP who underwent vitrectomy surgery at the Affiliated Hospital of Medical College, Qingdao University (Qingdao, China) during a 3-year period. Early intervention of vitrectomy combined with silicone oil tamponade and achieving retinal reattachment of the remaining retina, may make the severely traumatized eyes regain the VA of LP or better.

文摘Insects damaging and penetrating plastic packaged materials has been reported since the 1950s.Radical innovation breakthroughs of plastic biodegradation have been initiated since the discovery of biodegradation of plastics by Tenebrio molitor larvae in 2015 followed by Galleria mellonella in 2017.Here we review updated studies on the insect-mediated biodegradation of plastics.Plastic biodegradation by insect larvae, mainly by some species of darkling beetles(Tenebrionidae)and pyralid moths(Pyralidae)is currently a highly active and potentially transformative area of research.Over the past eight years, publications have increased explosively, including discoveries of the ability of different insect species to biodegrade plastics, biodegradation performance, and the contribution of host and microbiomes, impacts of polymer types and their physic-chemical properties, and responsible enzymes secreted by the host and gut microbes. To date, almost all major plastics including polyethylene(PE),polypropylene(PP),polyvinyl chloride(PVC),polyethylene terephthalate(PET),polyurethane(PUR),and polystyrene(PS)can be biodegraded by T.molitor and ten other insect species representing the Tenebrionidae and Pyralidae families. The biodegradation processes are symbiotic reactions or performed by synergistic efforts of both host and gut-microbes to rapidly depolymerize and biodegrade plastics with hourly half-lives.The digestive ezymens and bioreagents screted by the insects play an essential role in plasatic biodegradation in certain species of Tenebrionidae and Pyralidae families.New research on the insect itself, gut microbiomes, transcriptomes, proteomes and metabolomes has evaluated the mechanisms of plastic biodegradation in insects. We conclude this review by discussing future research perspectives on insect-mediated biodegradation of plastics.
文摘Sulfamethoxazole(SMX)is a significant environmental concern due to its adverse effects and ecological risks.SMX elimination in aquatic environments via photocatalysis presents a viable solution, given its high oxidation potential. However, such a solution remains controversial, primarily due to a lack of selectivity. Here we introduce a molecularly imprinted TiO2@Fe_(2)O_(3)@g-C_(3)N_(4)(MFTC)photocatalyst designed for the selective degradation of SMX.To assess MFTC's selectivity,we applied it to degrade synthetic wastewater containing SMX alongside interfering species sulfadiazine(SDZ),ibuprofen(IBU),and bisphenol A(BPA).The results demonstrated a selective degradation efficiency rate of 96.8%,nearly twice that of competing pollutants. The molecularly imprinted sites within the catalyst played a crucial role by selectively capturing SMX and enhancing its adsorption, thereby improving catalytic efficiency. The degradation process involvedOH and·O_(2)^(-)free radicals, with a newly proposed double Z-scheme mechanism and potential pathway for SMX degradation by the MFTC photocatalytic system. This study enriches the application of photocatalysis using molecularly imprinted nanocomposite materials for treating complex pollutant mixtures in water.

文摘Background:The pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis(MS)is mediated primarily by T cells, but most studies of MS and its animal model, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis(EAE),have focused on CD4^+ T cells. The aims of the current study were to determine the pathological interrelationship between CD4 and CD8 autoreactive T cells in MS/EAE.Methods:Female C57BL/6 mice(n=20)were induced by myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein(MOG)35-55 peptide. At 14 days after immunization,T cells were isolated from the spleen and purified as CD4^+ and CD8^+ T cells by using CD4 and CD8 isolation kits, and then the purity was determined by flow cytometric analysis. These cells were stimulated by MOG35–55 peptide and applied to proliferation assays. The interferon-gamma(IFN-γ)and interleukin(IL)-4 secretion of supernatant of cultured CD4^+ and CD8^+ T cells were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays(ELISA).For adoptive transfer, recipient mice were injected with MOG35–55-specific CD8^+ or CD4^+ T cells.EAE clinical course was measured by EAE score at 0–5 scale and spinal cord was examined by staining with hematoxylin and eosin and Luxol fast blue staining.Results:CD8^+ CD3^+ and CD4^+ CD3^+ cells were 86%and 94%pure of total CD3^+ cells after CD8/CD4 bead enrichment, respectively. These cells were stimulated by MOG35–55 peptide and applied to proliferation assays.Although the CD8^+ T cells had a generally lower response to MOG35–55 than CD4^+ T cells, the response of CD8^+ T cells was not always dependent on CD4.CD8^+ T cell secreted less IFN-γand IL-4 compared with CD4^+ T cells.EAE was induced in wildtype B6 na?ve mice by adoptive transfer of MOG35–55-specific T cells from B6 active-induced EAE(aEAE)mice.A similar EAE score and slight inflammation and demyelination were found in naive B6 mice after transferring of CD8^+ T cells from immunized B6 mice compared with transfer of CD4^+ T cells. Conclusion:Our data suggest that CD8^+ autoreactive T cells in EAE have a lower encephalitogenic function but are unique and independent on pathogenic of EAE rather than their CD4^+ counterparts.

文摘Background:Huangqi Guizhi Wuwu decoction(HQGZWW)exhibits good effects when administered to treat multiple sclerosis(MS)and its animal model, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis(EAE).Understanding the precise mechanism of this decoction is thus important.Based on the findings of our previous study, the aim of the present study was to understand the role of antigen-specific CD8^(+)T-cells on the pathogene sis of MS/EAE when HQGZWW is administered as treatment. Methods:Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein(MOG);-induced mice were administered distilled water, prednisone, and high dose or low dose HQGZWW.After purified CD4^(+)and CD8^(+)T-cells were stimulated with the MOG;peptide, proliferation and cytokine secretion assays were performed. To establish the adoptive transfer EAE model, naive mice were injected with MOG;-CD8^(+)or CD4^(+)T-cells.Results:Significant improvements in EAE score and pathology were observed in the high dose HQGZWW and prednisone groups.Compared to the low dose HQGZWW and distilled water groups, lower antigen-specific re sponses, lower levels of interferon-gamma,and higher levels of interleukin(IL)-4 and IL-10 from CD8^(+)and CD4^(+)T cells were observed in the high dose HQGZWW and prednisone groups. Finally, the EAE score was observed to be similar between the high dose HQGZWW group and prednisone group;however, this finding was not observed in the low dose HQGZWW group. Conclusion:Our findings suggest that high dose HQGZWW has similar effects on cell proliferation, cytokine secretion, and EAE score to prednisone, while low dose HQGZWW does not have such effect. The protective role of HQGZWW against EAE might thus depend on the Th2 cytokine secretion profile induced by either MOG;specific CD8^(+)or CD4^(+)T-cells.

文摘Accurate energy consumption modeling is an essential prerequisite for sustainable manufacturing.Recently,cutting-power-based models have garnered significant attention,as they can provide more comprehensive information regarding the machining energy consumption pattern. However, their implementation is challenging because new cutting force coefficients are typically required to address new workpiece materials.Traditionally, cutting force coefficients are calculated at a high operation cost as a dynamometer must be used.Hence,a novel indirect approach for estimating the cutting force coefficients of a new tool-workpiece pair is proposed herein. The key idea is to convert the cutting force coefficient calculation problem into an optimization problem, whose solution can be effectively obtained using the proposed simulated annealing algorithm.Subsequently, the cutting force coefficients for a new tool-workpiece pair can be estimated from a pre-calibrated energy consumption model.Machining experiments performed using different machine tools clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed approach.Comparative studies with measured cutting force coefficients reveal the decent accuracy of the approach in terms of both energy consumption prediction and instantaneous cutting force prediction. The proposed approach can provide an accurate and reliable estimation of cutting force coefficients for new workpiece materials while avoiding operational or economic problems encountered in traditional force monitoring methods involving dynamometers. Therefore, this study may significantly advance the development of sustainable manufacturing.

文摘An effective sponge city construction evaluation system plays a crucial role in evaluating sponge city construction schemes. The construction of a sponge city evaluation system still faces challenges related to incomplete index selection and unscientific weight division.Limited studies have focused on the comprehensive assessment of sponge city construction in the early stages. This study constructed a scientific assessment indicator system and a quantitative indicator weight at all levels by literature review and statistical analysis methods from an objective perspective. To demonstrate how to utilize our evaluation methods, three construction schemes randomly generated by MATLAB were evaluated under evaluation states of constant weight and variable weight, respectively.Scheme 3 had the highest score of 0.638 under the constant weight assessment, but it cannot practically be the final construction scheme due to the imbalance between indicators.Compared to the constant weight assessment,a variable weight assessment can effectively balance the states of the evaluation index with changes in the decision variable.Among the three schemes,Scheme 2 is the best choice with a value of 0.0355 under variable weight evaluation due to punishment and incentives in the variable weight method. The concept of“punishing”a disadvantageous indicator and“motivating”an advantageous indicator increases the relative advantages of the indices, ultimately affecting the assessment results of schemes and leading to a more balanced state. This study provides reasonable analysis and decision-making mechanisms to support decision-making and guide the scientific selection of a construction scheme.

文摘Chlorination has been intensively investigated for use in water disinfection and pollutant elimination due to its efficacy and convenience;however, the generation and transportation of chlorine and hypochlorite are energy-consuming and complicated. In this study,a novel binary photosensitizer consisting of anthraquinone-2-sulfonate(AQ2S)and graphene was synthesized via a p-p stack adsorption method;this compound could allow for the chlorination of organic pollutants using on-site chlorine generation. In this photosensitive degradation process, sulfapyridine(SPY)was selected as a model pollutant and was decomposed by the reactive species(Cl2-,Cland O2-)generated during the photosensitive oxidation of chloride. The synthesized AQ2S/graphene exhibited superior activity, and the degradation rate of SPY was over 90%after 12 h of visible light irradiation with a kinetic constant of 0.2034h1.Results show that 20 mg AQ2S/GR at a 21%weight percentage of AQ2S in a pH 7 SPY solution with 1 mol/L Clachieved the highest kinetics rate at 0.353 h1.Free radical trapping experiments demonstrated that Cl2-and O2-were the dominant species involved in SPY decomposition under solar light. The reusability and stability of this composite were verified by conducting a cycle experiment over five successive runs. The capacity of photodegradation still remained over 90%after these 5 runs. The current study provides an energyefficient and simple-operational approach for water phase SPY control.
