Amyotrophic lateral syndrome(ALS)is a progressive degenerative disorder characterized by motor neuron death and axon degeneration.Mitochondrial dysfunction plays a key role in the pathogenesis of ALS,the mechanism of ...Amyotrophic lateral syndrome(ALS)is a progressive degenerative disorder characterized by motor neuron death and axon degeneration.Mitochondrial dysfunction plays a key role in the pathogenesis of ALS,the mechanism of which remains poorly understood.The B-cell lymphoma-2(Bcl-2)family of proteins that control and mediate mitochondrial function and apoptosis,including the pro-apoptotic members Bcl2-Associated X(Bax),are involved in ALS development.The death receptor 6(DR6)regulates motor neuron death in ALS,and DR6 antibodies can prevent axon degeneration and motor neuron damage by blocking DR6.Previous studies demonstrated that PSAP localized to mitochondria and was required for DR6-induced apoptosis.In this study,SOD1^(G93A) was transfected into the motor neuron cell line NSC-34 to serve as an ALS cell model in vitro.The data assessed the role of PSAP in SOD1^(G93A)induced apoptosis and demonstrated that the overexpression of SOD1^(G93A),but not wtSOD1,induced PARP cleavage,caspase-3 activation,cytochrome c release,and Bax translocation.PSAP,Bax,and Bak were necessary for SOD1^(G93A)induced apoptosis,as silencing PSAP inhibited SOD1^(G93A)-mediated cell death that was dependent on Bax-Bak interaction.展开更多
The purpose of this paper is to share the findings of an action research aiming at helping college students to improve their speaking by applying a WeChat-based autonomous learning community.WeChat is the most wide-sp...The purpose of this paper is to share the findings of an action research aiming at helping college students to improve their speaking by applying a WeChat-based autonomous learning community.WeChat is the most wide-spread social media platform in China.In this 10-week action research,a total of 16 participants in a Chinese university were involved.After identifying the incentive of participating in this WeChat Group speaking activity,most of which were related with pronunciation and a lack of speaking fluency practice,an action plan was developed and implemented.In this WeChat group,the participants received weekly learning material about pronunciation and speaking assignments accordingly,then they had one week to learn the pronunciation independently and prepare the oral assignments.Following this,participants submitted their voice recording in the WeChat group and were given feedback by an instructor in this group.Observations,questionnaires,and surveys were used to collect data.The results show a positive feedback from the learners on a WeChat-based autonomous learning community.The study observes(1)college EFL learners have a strong motivation;intrinsic motivation especially has a positive relationship with participants’performance;(2)students have a positive attitude towards WeChat-based autonomous learning community;(3)timely feedback from instructors is highly valued by language learners.展开更多
Characterising and sourcing natural stones are essential for not only understanding the historical information carried by heritage buildings and cultural heritage sites,but also providing necessary data for restoratio...Characterising and sourcing natural stones are essential for not only understanding the historical information carried by heritage buildings and cultural heritage sites,but also providing necessary data for restoration and conservations.Petrographic analyses by polarised microscopy,along with the integrated chemical data acquired by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry(ICP-MS)and X-ray difraction(XRD)analysis,allowed us to ascertain the compositions of stone materials.In this paper it is applied on samples collected from quarries of“three famous stones(Meiyuanshi-,Xiaoxishi-,and Dayinshi-stone)”in Ningbo and from the Sumeru platform in the main hall of Baoguosi Temple(Ningbo,Zhejiang,China).Comparison of petrographic features,major and trace elements of the stones studied indicated that they are all tufs but of diferent characteristics and origin.Moreover,we were able to confrm that the Sumeru platform in Baoguosi is made of Meiyuanshi-stone.The results have demonstrated the suitability of the approach and present a practicable solution for other stone buildings.展开更多
