Previous studies have shown that Lycium barbarum polysaccharide,the main active component of Lycium barbarum,exhibits antiinflammatory and antioxidant effects in treating neurological diseases.However,the therapeutic action of Lycium barbarum polysaccharide on depression has not been studied.In this investigation,we established mouse models of depression using aversive stimuli including exposure to fox urine,air puff and foot shock and physical restraint.Concurrently,we administered 5 mg/kg per day Lycium barbarum polysaccharide-glycoprotein to each mouse intragastrically for the 28 days.Our results showed that long-term exposure to aversive stimuli significantly enhanced depressive-like behavior evaluated by the sucrose preference test and the forced swimming test and increased anxietylike behaviors evaluated using the open field test.In addition,aversive stimuli-induced depressed mice exhibited aberrant neuronal activity in the lateral habenula.Importantly,concurrent Lycium barbarum polysaccharide-glycoprotein treatment significantly reduced these changes.These findings suggest that Lycium barbarum polysaccharide-glycoprotein is a potential preventative intervention for depression and may act by preventing aberrant neuronal activity and microglial activation in the lateral habenula.The study was approved by the Jinan University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee(approval No.20170301003)on March 1,2017. 展开更多

AIM: To investigate the relationship between cholecystectomy and fatty liver disease(FLD) in a Chinese population.METHODS: A total of 32428 subjects who had voluntarily undergone annual health checkups in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from January 2011 to May 2013 were included in this study. Basic data collection, physical examination, laboratory examination, and abdominal ultrasound examination were performed.RESULTS: Subjects undergoing cholecystectomy were associated with greater age, female sex, higher body mass index, and higher levels of systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, total cholesterol, and triglycerides. However, no significant differences were found in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, gammaglutamyl transpeptidase, albumin, and serum uric acid. The overall prevalence of FLD diagnosed by ultrasonography was high at 38.4%. The prevalence of FLD was significantly higher for subjects who had undergone cholecystectomy(46.9%) than those who had not undergone cholecystectomy(38.1%; χ2 test, P < 0.001). Cholecystectomy was positively associated with FLD(OR = 1.433, 95%CI: 1.259-1.631). However, after adjusting for possible factors associated withFLD, multivariate regression analysis showed that the association between cholecystectomy and FLD was not statistically significant(OR = 1.096; 95%CI: 0.939-1.279). CONCLUSION: According to our study results, cholecystectomy may not be a significant risk factor for FLD. 展开更多

Alerting effects of light in healthy individuals: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Light plays an essential role in psychobiological and psychophysiological processes,such as alertness.The alerting effect is influenced by light characteristics and the timing of interventions.This meta-analysis is the first to systematically review the effect of light intervention on alertness and to discuss the optimal protocol for light intervention.In this meta-analysis,registered at PROSPERO(Registration ID:CRD42020181485),we conducted a systematic search of the Web of Science,PubMed,and PsycINFO databases for studies published in English prior to August 2021.The outcomes included both subjective and objective alertness.Subgroup analyses considered a variety of factors,such as wavelength,correlated color temperature(CCT),light illuminance,and timing of interventions(daytime,night-time,or all day).Twenty-seven crossover studies and two parallel-group studies were included in this meta-analysis,with a total of 1210 healthy participants(636(52%)male,mean age 25.62 years).The results revealed that light intervention had a positive effect on both subjective alertness(standardized mean difference(SMD)=-0.28,95%confidence interval(CI):-0.49 to-0.06,P=0.01)and objective alertness in healthy subjects(SMD=-0.34,95%CI:-0.68 to-0.01,P=0.04).The subgroup analysis revealed that cold light was better than warm light in improving subjective alertness(SMD=-0.37,95%CI:-0.65 to-0.10,P=0.007,I2=26%)and objective alertness(SMD=-0.36,95%CI:-0.66 to-0.07,P=0.02,I2=0).Both daytime(SMD=-0.22,95%CI:-0.37 to-0.07,P=0.005,I2=74%)and night-time(SMD=-0.32,95%CI:-0.61 to-0.02,P=0.04,I2=0)light exposure improved subjective alertness.The results of this meta-analysis and systematic review indicate that light exposure is associated with significant improvement in subjective and objective alertness.In addition,light exposure with a higher CCT was more effective in improving alertness than light exposure with a lower CCT.Our results also suggest that both daytime and night-time light exposure can improve subjective alertness. 展开更多

In this work,the membrane surface of poly(acrylonitrile-co-2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)(PANCHEMA)was chemically modified by anchoring of phospholipid moieties.The process involved the reaction of hydroxyl groups on the membrane surface with 2-chloro-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphospholane(COP)followed by the ring-opening reaction of COP with trimethylamine.Chemical differences between the original and the modified membranes were characterized by FT-IR and XPS.It was found that the amount of macrophage adhered on the modified membrane surface is substantially lower than that on polyacrylonitrile(PAN)and PANCHEMA membranes under the same condition.The morphological change of the adherent cell is also suppressed by the generation of phospholipid moieties on the membrane surface. 展开更多

Corneal graft melting is a severe complication of keratoplasty.This review is to summarize the incidence,the pathogenesis,the risk factors,the prognosis and the prevention of corneal graft melting after keratoplasty.We systematically searched PubMed,Web of Science and WanFang database to retrieve potentially eligible articles about relevant clinical reports and animal experiments.We read the full texts to identify eligible articles.The selection of studies and data extraction were performed independently by two reviewers.In conclusion,the pathogenesis of corneal graft melting is complicated,and many risk factors are closely related to corneal graft melting.Analysis of pathogenesis and risk factors of corneal graft melting can facilitate the development of targeted therapies to better guide clinical practice. 展开更多

Objective:To compare the effects of sou-quan-yi-shen prescription and Yizhiren on the efficacy and gut microbiome of DKD mice.Methods:Taking spontaneous diabetic kidney disease(db-/db-)mice as the animal model,the mice were randomly divided into Yizhiren group,ou-quan-yi-shen prescriptione group,saline group,each with 8 mice.Three groups of mice were given 1.5mg·g-1 Yizhiren,0.01mg·kg-1 sou-quan-yi-shen prescriptione and saline,continuous gavage for 8 weeks.Blood glucose,blood lipids and oxidative stress were measured.The fecal gut microbiome,richness and expression difference were determined by collecting mouse feces,and the ratio of Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes,as well as the richness of Firmicutes,Akkermansia and Bacteroidetes in the three groups of mice were compared.Results:The blood glucose,TG,CAT,H2O2 and O2-of the mice in the sou-quan-yi-shen prescription group were 18.11±0.51,4.01±0.87,126.23±15.33,60.70±20.12 and 41.56±19.54,respectively.The blood glucose,TG,CAT,H2O2 and O2-of the mice in the yizhiren group were 21.42±0.45,5.02±0.32,137.88±10.90,79.07±18.31 and 55.26±14.11,respectively.Compared with the normal saline group of blood glucose 33.73±0.96,TG 9.67±1.02,CAT 75.04±17.23,H2O2109.77±19.21 and O2-95.43±29.08,the sou-quan-yi-shen prescription group and the Yizhiren group were significantly lower(p<0.05),and the effect of Shuoquan Yishen Recipe Better than Yizhiren.sou-quan-yi-shen prescription and yizhiren can regulate the abundance ratio of Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes,as well as the abundance of Firmicutes,Bacteroidetes and Akkermansia,and the effect of sou-quan-yi-shen prescription is stronger than that of yizhiren.Conclusion:The effect of sou-quan-yi-shen prescription and yizhiren on regulating DKD may be related to the regulation of blood sugar,blood lipids,oxidative stress and gut microbiome,and the effect of sou-quan-yi-shen prescription is stronger than that of yizhiren. 展开更多

A representative CO_(2) emissions pathway for China toward carbon neutrality under the Paris Agreement's 2℃target

In 2021,China updated its nationally determined contributions(NDCs)under the Paris Agreement,which prompts a more accurate mea-surement of its emissions inventory and a reasonable pathway toward carbon neutrality by 2060.This study reviews the estimates using the bottom-up emissions factor method or the top-down atmospheric CO_(2) concentration inversion method to derive China's CO_(2) emissions inventory and finds that CO_(2) emissions from energy combustion and industrial processes in Chinese mainland range from 11.3-12.0 GtCO_(2) in 2021.Based on a comprehensive review of pathways proposed by domestic and international studies and an analysis of the origins of their differences,we proposed the Tsinghua-CMA pathway that coordinates the 2℃global temperature rise control target with China's current CO_(2) emissions status and mitigation policies.The pathway requires China's CO_(2) emissions to peak around 2028-2029 at about 12.8 GtCO_(2),then decline steadily to about 11.2 GtCO_(2) in 2035,3.6 GtCO_(2) in 2050,and 0.9 GtCO_(2) in 2060.Compared to a reference scenario without updated NDCs,this pathway would result in an economic cost of about 0.9%cumulative GDP between 2020 and 2060,only 1/4-1/3 of the cost associated with pathways that align with the 1.5℃target.We recommended that China improves emissions accounting by cross-validating bottom-up and top-down approaches and regularly updating the pathway toward carbon neutrality while maintaining consistency with its evolving CO_(2) emissions inventory,policy trends,and global CO_(2) emission budget updates. 展开更多

Because such skill is helpful for human-robot interaction and cooperation, we must realize this skill to enhance the robots communication ability with person. In this paper, we researched a toy play controlling strategy in JA space based on a virtual plate with a serial robot arm, which has five degrees of freedom(5-DoF). For this purpose, a reachable space of joint attention was constructed firstly. And then the toy play controlling strategy was proposed in details. Here we used a virtual plate to enhance the toy play effect. In order to realize this skill better, toy play energy and some restraining relations were analyzed. By contrasting the audio waveform in the experiments, good performance effect of toy play was demonstrated. 展开更多
