Towards Net Zero Resilience: A Futuristic Architectural Strategy for Cyber-Attack Defence in Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Operational Technology (OT)

This paper introduces the Integrated Security Embedded Resilience Architecture (ISERA) as an advanced resilience mechanism for Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Operational Technology (OT) environments. The ISERA framework integrates security by design principles, micro-segmentation, and Island Mode Operation (IMO) to enhance cyber resilience and ensure continuous, secure operations. The methodology deploys a Forward-Thinking Architecture Strategy (FTAS) algorithm, which utilises an industrial Intrusion Detection System (IDS) implemented with Python’s Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) library. The FTAS algorithm successfully identified and responded to cyber-attacks, ensuring minimal system disruption. ISERA has been validated through comprehensive testing scenarios simulating Denial of Service (DoS) attacks and malware intrusions, at both the IT and OT layers where it successfully mitigates the impact of malicious activity. Results demonstrate ISERA’s efficacy in real-time threat detection, containment, and incident response, thus ensuring the integrity and reliability of critical infrastructure systems. ISERA’s decentralised approach contributes to global net zero goals by optimising resource use and minimising environmental impact. By adopting a decentralised control architecture and leveraging virtualisation, ISERA significantly enhances the cyber resilience and sustainability of critical infrastructure systems. This approach not only strengthens defences against evolving cyber threats but also optimises resource allocation, reducing the system’s carbon footprint. As a result, ISERA ensures the uninterrupted operation of essential services while contributing to broader net zero goals. 展开更多

Unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)have been widely used in military,medical,wireless communications,aerial surveillance,etc.One key topic involving UAVs is pose estimation in autonomous navigation.A standard procedure for this process is to combine inertial navigation system sensor information with the global navigation satellite system(GNSS)signal.However,some factors can interfere with the GNSS signal,such as ionospheric scintillation,jamming,or spoofing.One alternative method to avoid using the GNSS signal is to apply an image processing approach by matching UAV images with georeferenced images.But a high effort is required for image edge extraction.Here a support vector regression(SVR)model is proposed to reduce this computational load and processing time.The dynamic partial reconfiguration(DPR)of part of the SVR datapath is implemented to accelerate the process,reduce the area,and analyze its granularity by increasing the grain size of the reconfigurable region.Results show that the implementation in hardware is 68 times faster than that in software.This architecture with DPR also facilitates the low power consumption of 4 mW,leading to a reduction of 57%than that without DPR.This is also the lowest power consumption in current machine learning hardware implementations.Besides,the circuitry area is 41 times smaller.SVR with Gaussian kernel shows a success rate of 99.18%and minimum square error of 0.0146 for testing with the planning trajectory.This system is useful for adaptive applications where the user/designer can modify/reconfigure the hardware layout during its application,thus contributing to lower power consumption,smaller hardware area,and shorter execution time. 展开更多

CAInNet:面向AI加速的通算一体网内计算模型

AI时代的到来对当今算力提出了双重挑战,一方面涉及推理,另一方面涉及分布式训练。将一部分分布式应用的计算任务卸载到高速网络的网卡或交换机能够潜在提升分布式应用的性能表现,并发挥网络的关键作用。如在交换机或网卡中卸载参数聚合等计算功能能够有效降低模型训练时产生的大量通信开销。基于P4语言的可编程数据平面除了使网络协议定制更加灵活外,还使得网络数据平面能够为分布式应用提供简单的网内计算服务。然而,当前典型的基于P4语言的可编程数据平面架构如协议无关交换架构(PISA)在进行矩阵运算等方面还表现得不够高效。分析该缺陷的关键原因在于:PISA架构中的超长指令字计算引擎在处理大规模并行同构计算任务时效率不高。针对上述问题,提出了一种面向AI加速的通算一体网内计算模型CAInNet。该模型在传统可编程数据平面的基础上,创新性地融合了单指令多数据流(SIMD)与多指令多数据流(MIMD)两种计算模式,使得网络设备不仅能够支持协议无关网络分组处理,还能在分组传输过程中对承载AI推理与训练的数据做网内计算。为了验证CAInNet在网内计算以及网络可编程方面的能力和效果,我们在该模型中使用带内网络遥测实现网络可视化,并部署多层感知机(MLP)模型实现基于AI的报文分类,替代传统的基于TCAM查表的路由方法。实验表明,采用机器学习推理的报文分类方法在包含5k路由表项的场景下,其准确度高达98.3%,同时节省了98.7%的存储空间,有效地解决了路由爆炸问题。与现有方法相比,将机器学习推理部署在CAInNet中不增加可编程数据平面的处理延迟,且仅消耗适量计算资源。 展开更多

However, this new approach poses significant challenges in terms of security, fault tolerance, and interoperability. This paper highlights these challenges and explores current strategies to ensure the resilience and reliability of SDN networks in the face of threats and failures. With the rapid advancement of information technology,the quality assurance and evaluation of software engineering education have become pivotal concerns for higher education institutions.In this paper,we focus on a comparative study of software engineering education in China and Europe,aiming to explore the theoretical frameworks and practical pathways employed in both regions.Initially,we introduce and contrast the engineering education accreditation systems of China and Europe,including the Chinese engineering education accreditation framework and the European EUR-ACE(European Accreditation of Engineering Programmes)standards,highlighting their core principles and evaluation methodologies.Subsequently,we provide case studies of several universities in China and Europe,such as Sun Yat-sen University,Tsinghua University,Technical University of Munich,and Imperial College London.Finally,we offer recommendations to foster mutual learning and collaboration between Chinese and European institutions,aiming to enhance the overall quality of software engineering education globally.This work provides valuable insights for educational administrators,faculty members,and policymakers,contributing to the ongoing improvement and innovative development of software engineering education in China and Europe. 展开更多

For electronic piezo gauge used for testing gun chamber pressure, its internal miniature pulse-powered photoelectric invert switch cannot often be powered up normally. To solve this problem, a test system for invert switch is presented to verify the reliability of the invert switch. The test system uses complex programmable logic device (CPLD) to control data acquisition of A/D converter and data storage of external flash memory, and then transmits the acquired data to a computer for data analysis and processing. The test system can provide the required sampling frequency of the signal in high temperature, normal temperature and low temperature environments, and the reliability of the invert switch can be verified according to the signal parameters. The results show that the test system has high precision and the tested invert switch has low power consumption and high reliability. 展开更多
