The high mortality and morbidity severely concern the Western community, where numerous clinical trials and research for a cure are in process. In order to alleviate patients from the severe symptoms of the disease, avoiding the side effects, Botanical Medicine exhibits concrete evidence, as a gold candidate, to be the salvation to the problem. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review (PRISMA) protocol has been used to achieve extensive research on the topic, focusing on the identification and evaluation of the phytochemical properties of common medicinal plants. Meta-analysis has also been implemented on the results of published literature. Forest plots have been plotted, comparing and evaluating the results’ validity and significance. The meta-analysis results have undoubtedly demonstrated the importance and significance of the medicinal plants and their properties against various clinical complications, focusing on the pathogenicity of SCD. Surprisingly, their effectiveness to suppress haemoglobin polymerisation and increase the Fe2+/Fe3+ ratio in patients, enhanced the normal morphological erythrocytes’ appearance by suppressing the sickle shape of drepanocytes. Research made on the epidemiology of SCD associates the disease with the geographical frequency of malaria infection. Based on the natural selection theory of Charles Darwin, nature aids in the population’s survival by the endemicity of various medicinal plants in areas with increased SCD patients. Limitations to the medicinal plants’ consumptions and further therapeutic options have been discussed.展开更多

Highfrequency protocorm-like body(PLB) formation was established via callus culture from vegetative tissues of in vitro germinated seedlings of S.plicata. Media containing MS salts and Gamborg's B5 vitamins supplemented with 1.0 mg·L^(-1) 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid(2,4-D), 3.0 mg·L^(-1) α-naphthaleneacetic acid(NAA), 1.0 mg·L^(-1) kinetin(KIN), and 10%(v/v) ‘Aloe vera gel'(Av G) were effective in fragile calli induction. A maximum of(22.3 ± 0.52) PLBs were induced from about 250 mg callus within 45–55 days in the presence of 2.0 mg·L^(-1) NAA and 3.0 mg·L^(-1) 6-benzylaminopurine(BAP). Briefly, 3.0% sodium alginate was found to be most suitable for the formation of an appropriate shape and good germination rates(86.7%)of artificial seeds. Out of three different temperatures(4, 15, and 24 °C), the best result was achieved at 4 °C with 66.7% germinability even after90 days of storage. Plantlets were acclimatized with 86.6% survival rate and 76.3% of these plants produced flowers within 12–15 months of field transfer. Chromosomal studies revealed cytological stability of all regenerants containing 2 n = 40 chromosomes as in the parental plants. The present protocol can be applied reliably for the purposes of large-scale commercial propagation and short-term conservation of this orchid.展开更多

The results showed potent inhibitory effect of Aloe vera gel extracts on L-dihydroxyphenylalanine(L-DOPA) oxidation catalyzed by tyrosinase in a dose-dependent manner. Significant differences in % inhibition of tyrosinase among the extraction methods and the germplasms were observed. The relative performance of the germplasms was evaluated with the help of posthoc multicomparison test. The methanolic extract was more effective than the lyophilized crude gel in all the germplasms. The inhibitory effect of the lyophilized gel and methanolic extract tested from five germplasms followed the order: RM > TN > S24 > OR > RJN. The germplasm RM showed the highest tyrosinase inhibition, and the maximum % inhibition noted was 26.04% and 41.18%, respectively for the lyophilized and methanolic extracts at 6 mg·mL–1concentration. Lineweaver-Burk plots of the different concentrations of L-DOPA in the absence and presence of lyophilized gel extract showed competitive inhibition of mushroom tyrosinase in all the germplasms. This study suggests that the germplasm RM could potentially be used for the isolation and identification of the effective tyrosinase inhibitory component, and ascertains the critical role of selecting the best source of germplasm for natural product isolation and characterization.展开更多

Limitations to the medicinal plants’ consumptions and further therapeutic options have been discussed.
文摘Medicinal plants are widely employed for healing reasons in many native systems of medicine and are becoming increasingly popular in modern culture as alternatives to manufactured medications. The current study is a descriptive review in which papers were searched from several databases such as Springer,Wiley,Taylor and Francis,Elsevier, etc. It is time to rethink the way we improve our immune systems and seek evidence-based treatments that best use plant-based medicines to benefit patients.Bioactive principles are responsible for medicinal plants’therapeutic actions and give limitless chances for novel drug leads because of their exceptional availability of chemical variety. The chemical characteristics of the included bioactive components determine whether standardized plant extracts are beneficial or poisonous.A summary of research papers on plants such as garlic, aloe vera, stinging nettle, saffron, clove, holy basil, turmeric, cinnamon, giloe, liquorice, and aloe vera having bioactive molecules and cures for several diseases such as influenza virus, gastrointestinal cancer neurodegenerative disorder, cardiovascular diseases, urinary disorder, diabetes, skin disease, obesity, and respiratory disorder is included in this overview.
文摘Spathoglottis plicata Blume. is a horticulturally important vulnerable ground orchid with beautiful flowers blooming round the year. The present protocol can be applied reliably for the purposes of large-scale commercial propagation and short-term conservation of this orchid.

文摘In this study, lyophilized and methanolic extracts of aloe gel from different germplasms were evaluated for their potential to inhibit mushroom tyrosinase activity. This study suggests that the germplasm RM could potentially be used for the isolation and identification of the effective tyrosinase inhibitory component, and ascertains the critical role of selecting the best source of germplasm for natural product isolation and characterization.
