In order to determine a proper compaction temperature that affects the workability and compactibility of the polymer-modified asphalt(PMA), the effect of compaction temperature was examined on the volumetric properties and the compaction energy indices. Change in compaction temperature shows an important influence on the maximum specific gravity of mixture(G_(mm)) by internal volume change of PMA. The change in G_(mm) mainly affects the effective volume of the aggregate(V_(Eff)). Reduction in V_(Eff) from Zero shear viscosity(ZSV) to superpave temperature allows 0.1%-0.15% of the asphalt binder to occupy highly the external voids of aggregates. The volumetric properties for all compaction specimens meet superpave criteria, but the energy efforts were the lowest at ZSV temperature. Lower energy efforts at the ZSV temperature reflect easier compaction than those at excessively high temperature. Clearly, excessive compaction temperature may not be necessary to improve the compactibility and to reduce the compaction efforts. 展开更多

In order to reduce powder temperature to lower than 100℃ in warm compaction by changing polymer lubricant design, powder flowability, warm compacting behavior, lubricating mode as well as ultimate tensile strength after sinter-hardening and tempering were investigated systematically. By means of low temperature warm pressing and sintered hardening technique, samples with the sintered densities of 7.407.45g/cm3 and the strengths of 950 1390MPa are achieved as the early compacting pressure is 686735MPa. 展开更多

Most premature failures of asphalt pavement are concerned with poor compaction. Compaction characteristic of lIMA mixtures were studied. Compaction tests were done with typical widely used HMA mixtures, including dense gradation asphalt mixtures with different nominal maximum aggregate size (AC13,AC20,AC25), and mixtures with different gradation (AC13, SMA13,Supl3 and OGFC13). HMA mixtures were sampled at different compaction temperature and Marshall blow numbers, varying between 60 and 175 ~C and between 15 and 75 lows, respectively. The compaction characteristics of these mixtures were evaluated. The results showed that the Marshall stability and volumetric properties were significantly affected by the compaction temperature. Mixtures with the same NMAS but different type of gradation need different compaction energy to get the designed density. 展开更多

Polycrystalline diamond compacts(PDC), which are composed of diamond and WC/Co substrate, and synthesized at high pressure and high temperature(HPHT), are widely applied as the tooth of drilling bit. However, the thermal stability of PDC will be reduced when diamond transforms into graphite due to cobalt in PDC acting as a catalyst during the drilling work. In this study, a new three-layer structured PDC with enhanced thermal stability has been successfully synthesized at pressures of 5.5–7.0 GPa and temperatures of 1650–1750?C. In this structure, the diamond-Si C composite acts as the working layer, and the diamond-Si C-Co composite and WC/Co cements are as the intermediate layer and substrate, respectively. It is found that the initial oxidizing temperature of the three-layered PDC is enhanced up to820?C, which is significantly higher than that(~780?C) of the conventional PDC counterpart. 展开更多
