Background:This study aimed to investigate whether the combination of Macleaya cordata extract(MCE)and Bacil-lus could improve the laying performance and health of laying hens better.Methods:A total of 36029-week-old ...Background:This study aimed to investigate whether the combination of Macleaya cordata extract(MCE)and Bacil-lus could improve the laying performance and health of laying hens better.Methods:A total of 36029-week-old Jingbai laying hens were randomly divided into 4 treatments:control group(basal diet),MCE group(basal diet+MCE),Probiotics Bacillus Compound(PBC)group(basal diet+compound Bacil-lus),MCE+PBC group(basal diet+MCE+compound Bacillus).The feeding experiment lasted for 42 d.Results:The results showed that the laying rate and the average daily egg mass in the MCE+PBC group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05)and better than the MCE and PBC group.Combina-tion of MCE and Bacillus significantly increased the content of follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH)in the serum and up-regulated the expression of related hormone receptor gene(estrogen receptor-β,FSHR and luteinizing hormone/choriogonadotropin receptor)in the ovary of laying hens(P<0.05).In the MCE+PBC group,the mRNA expressions of zonula occluden-1,Occludin and mucin-2 in jejunum was increased and the intestinal epithelial barrier detected by transmission electron microscopy was enhanced compared with the control group(P<0.05).In addition,compared with the control group,combination of MCE and Bacillus significantly increased the total antioxidant capacity and catalase activity(P<0.05),and down-regulated the mRNA expressions of inflammation-related genes(interleukin-1βand tumor necrosis factor-α)as well as apoptosis-related genes(Caspase 3,Caspase 8 and P53)(P<0.05).The concen-tration of acetic acid and butyric acid in the cecum content of laying hens in the MCE+PBC group was significantly increased compared with the control group(P<0.05).Conclusions:Collectively,dietary supplementation of 600μg/kg MCE and 5×108 CFU/kg compound Bacillus can improve laying performance by improving microbiota to enhance antioxidant capacity and intestinal barrier,regulate reproductive hormones and the concentration of cecal short-chain fatty acids of laying hens,and the combined effect of MCE and Bacillus is better than that of single supplementation.展开更多

Objective:To evaluate the legacy and novel per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances(PFAS)exposure in women of reproductive age,and to explore the effects on female reproductive hormones.Methods:We used cross-sectional data ...Objective:To evaluate the legacy and novel per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances(PFAS)exposure in women of reproductive age,and to explore the effects on female reproductive hormones.Methods:We used cross-sectional data of 433 normal women of reproductive age from 2013 to 2015.Data of age,age at menarche,parity,BMI,education,and income were collected through questionnaires,serum samples were collected for reproductive hormones,and plasma samples for PFAS measurement by ultraperformance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometer(UPLC-MS/MS).Multiple linear regression and quantile g-computation were adopted to analyze the association between PFAS and reproductive hormones.Results:The detection rates of 6:2 Cl-PFESA,8:2 Cl-PFESA and HFPO-DA in the plasma were 100%,99.8%and 99.9%,respectively.The median concentrations of these chemicals were 2.27 ng/mL,0.07 ng/mL and 0.03 ng/mL,respectively.Multiple linear regression analysis showed a positive association between branched PFOS[1m-PFOS(β=0.131,95%CI:0.021,0.242),br-PFOS(β=0.119,95%CI:0.005,0.234)]and progesterone.In addition,mixed exposure model suggested that PFAS had a positive association with progesterone(β=0.549,95%CI:0.323,0.774).Conclusion:In this study,a mixed exposure model was used to evaluate the combined effects of PFAS mixtures,reflecting the association between multiple environmental PFAS exposure and reproductive hormones,and a higher concentration of novel PFAS was found in women of reproductive age,confirming that PFAS exposure may be related to reproductive hormone disorders in women of reproductive age.展开更多

BACKGROUND The excessive concentration of leptin has negative effects on all aspects of female reproduction.Despite this established relationship,the exact role of leptin in women’s fertility is not clear enough and ...BACKGROUND The excessive concentration of leptin has negative effects on all aspects of female reproduction.Despite this established relationship,the exact role of leptin in women’s fertility is not clear enough and needs more clarification.AIM To evaluate the serum leptin levels in Sudanese women and to ascertain the relationship between serum leptin levels and unexplained infertility(UI).METHODS A matched(age and body mass index)case-control study was conducted from March 2021 to February 2022.The study samples were 210 women with UI and 190 fertile women of reproductive age who were attending the maternity hospitals and fertility clinics in Khartoum state Sudan.The serum concentration of leptin and other serum biomarkers were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays.RESULTS The results showed that there was a highly statistically significant difference between the two groups(P<0.001)for all examined eight biomarkers.Whereby,leptin,luteinizing hormone(LH)/follicular stimulating hormone(FSH)ratio,prolactin hormone(PRL)and testosterone(T)were significantly higher in the UI group compared with the control group.In contrast,FSH and estradiol(E2)/T ratio were significantly lower in the UI group than in the control group and the effect size test for the difference between the two groups was very large(effect size>0.80),for leptin level,LH/FSH ratio,PRL level,and E2/T ratio,and large(effect size 0.50-≤0.80)for FSH and T.CONCLUSION This study reveals that leptin could be a potential biomarker for UI in Sudanese women and it may be useful for identifying women with a high risk of infertility.展开更多

Methods:Subjects included 1,498 men aged 40 to 69 from a county,and the serum reproductive hormones of 434 subjects were measured and calculated.In addition,the prevalence rates of LOH were analyzed by cut-off point of total testosterone(TT) and free testosterone(cFT),and screening scales(a questionnaire of androgen deficiency in the aging males(ADAM) and a scale of aging males’ symptoms(AMS)).TT,cFT,bio-available testosterone (Bio-T),luteinizing hormone(LH),sex hormone binding globulin(SHBG),testosterone secretion index(TSI), free testosterone index(FTD,the positive rates of LOH screening,androgen deficiency rates and the clinical prevalence rates of LOH were measured or calculated. Results:The serum TT levels did not change significantly with male aging while serum LH and SHBG levels gradually increased,but cFT,Bio-T,TSI and FTI levels gradually decreased with male aging.There was very significant difference in other six parameters of reproductive hormones(P<0.01),except for serum TT among the four age brackets(P>0.05).There was no correlation between serum TT levels and aging,LH levels(P>0.05). However,there was significantly a positive correlation between serum LH,SHBG and age(P<0.01),while there were negative correlation between cFT,Bio-T,TSI,FTI and age,LH levels(P<0.01).Moreover,SHBG level was positively correlated with LH level(P<0.01). Utilizing the Questionnaire of ADAM and AMS to screen subjects aged 40 to 69 years,mean positive rates of LOH screening were 80.77%and 32.34%respectively.Mean androgen deficiency rates were 14.02%and 43.69% by using TT and cFT cut-off point.In addition,mean LOH clinical prevalence rates of subjects on positive questionnaire results were 37.85%and 15.42%. Conclusion:The serum TT levels did not change significantly with male aging while serum LH,SHBG,cFT, Bio-T,TSI and FTI levels had the gradient change with aging.On the basis of Chinese population,however,the positive rate of LOH screening,androgen deficiency rate and clinical prevalence rate of LOH were obviously higher than that those of the other foreign studies.展开更多

The prostate examination included digital rectal examination and measurement of serum prostate-specific antigen levels. Demographic and clinical characteristics of subjects were obtained using a structured questionnaire. The serum levels of Testosterone (Te), Luteinizing hormone (LH), Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and Prolactin (PRL) were measured using ELISA method. <strong>Results:</strong> Our study indicated that age and levels of prostate specific antigen (PSA), LH and FSH were significantly (p < 0.05) higher in men with BPH compared with healthy controls. In contrast, the control group indicated significantly (p < 0.05) higher Te level compared with the BPH group. In patients with BPH, age was significantly (p < 0.05) correlated with the hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular axis hormones (LH, FSH and PRL), but not with the sex hormone, and testosterone. Majority (62.1%) of the patients with BPH indicated they had poor libido, while none of them indicated regular sexual activity with their spouses. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> This study suggests that the rise in serum levels of the hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular axis hormones in BPH patients as demonstrated by the present findings may be age-related since testicular dysfunction in aging men is associated with the decrease in androgen production which may stimulate an increased production of gonadotropins by negative feedback.展开更多
BACKGROUND Improper methods of contraception greatly increase the risk of abortion,cervical or endometrial lesions,and the number of recurrent artificial abortions.These complications result in the deterioration of a ...BACKGROUND Improper methods of contraception greatly increase the risk of abortion,cervical or endometrial lesions,and the number of recurrent artificial abortions.These complications result in the deterioration of a patient’s outcome.Further,the proportion of artificial abortions is highest among unmarried females.Placement of an intrauterine device,such as the Mirena,after an artificial abortion may decrease the likelihood of an endometrial injury caused by recurrent abortions while significantly improving its contraceptive effects.AIM To discuss the effect of Mirena placement on reproductive hormone levels at different time points after an artificial abortion.METHODS Women(n=119)undergoing an artificial abortion operation were divided into the study(n=56)and control(n=63)groups.In the study group,the Mirena was inserted immediately after the artificial abortion,whereas in the control group,it was inserted 4–7 d after the onset of the first menstrual cycle after abortion.All participants were followed-up for 6 mo to observe the continuation and expulsion rates and adverse reactions and to measure the levels of serum estradiol(E2),follicle stimulating hormone(FSH),and luteinizing hormone(LH).RESULTS The continuation rates were 94.64%and 93.65%in the study group and the control group,respectively.The expulsion rates were 1.79%and 3.17%in the study group and the control group,respectively.There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).There were also no statistically significant differences in the proportion of patients with bacterial vaginitis,trichomonas vaginitis,or cervicitis between the groups(P>0.05).Six months after Mirena placement,E2 Levels were 45.50±7.13 pg/mL and 42.91±8.10 pg/mL,FSH 13.60±3.24 mIU/mL and 14.54±3.11 mIU/mL,and LH 15.11±2.08 mIU/mL and 14.60±3.55 mIU/mL in the study and control groups,respectively.There were no significant differences in hormone levels between the two groups(P>0.05).There were also no statistically significant differences in the proportions of abnormal menstruation,prolonged menstruation,or pain during intercourse between the study and control groups after Mirena placement(P>0.05).There were no statistically significant differences in uterine volume,sexual desire,sexual activity,or the sexual satisfaction score between the study and control groups before and after Mirena placement(P>0.05).CONCLUSION Placement of a Mirena intrauterine device immediately after an artificial abortion does not increase the risk of adverse reactions and can help prevent endometrial injury caused by recurrent abortions.展开更多

Unilateral cryptorchidism is prevalent in West African Dwarf (WAD) goats particularly in some areas where affected bucks are presumed to have better libido and reproductive efficiency by farmers. Androgens produced by the testes can influence libido and other hormonal and metabolic processes in the body. The study investigated the influence of natural unilateral cryptorchidism on serum reproductive hormones, total protein, lipid profile, oxidative stress, and haematology and libido in WAD bucks. Ten WAD bucks (aged 12 - 14 months) comprising 5 bucks with normal descended testes (N group) and 5 unilaterally-cryptorchid bucks (UC group) were studied. Blood and sera were collected and evaluated for haematology, serum total proteins and lipids (cholesterol, triglycerides and lipoproteins) concentrations, serum oxidative stress (catalase and lipid peroxidation activity), and serum levels of reproductive hormones (testosterone, FSH and LH). Libido testing of bucks was also performed by randomly isolating and confining each individual male with a doe on standing heat and recording the number of mountings made by the male within a period of 5 minutes as the libido score. The evaluated haematological indices and serum levels of proteins, lipids, oxidative stress indicators and reproductive hormones were not significantly different between the N and UC groups (p > 0.05). Although a higher mean libido score was recorded in N bucks compared to the UC group, this difference was not significant. Whereas no negative effects were observed in the evaluated physiologic indices in UC bucks, these findings do not support the presumption by farmers that UC bucks have better libido than bucks with fully descended testes. Therefore, these animals should not be selected for breeding to avoid increasing the prevalence of unilateral cryptorchidism due to its genetic attribute.展开更多

Fourteen of the women had primary infertility while 88 of them had secondary infertility. Sixty apparently healthy, age matched women served as the control group. Five millilitres of blood was collected, allowed to clot and serum was obtained from the subjects and Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay method was used for prolactin, progesterone, estradiol, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), prostaglandin E2and F2α, human TNF-α,Chlamydia trachomatis IgG, antisperm antibodies assay, while serum total antioxidant capacity was assessed spectrophotometrically.Results:The result shows on comparison that primary infertile women has a significantly higher level of progesterone than those with secondary infertility (P>0.05). There was a significant difference in the levels of prolactin and total antioxidant capacity in the primary and secondary infertility when compare to the control group atP>0.05. Their mean ages were (31.10±5.37) years and (33.10±4.91) years respectively. There was a positive correlation between TAC and FSH, TNF and anti-sperm anti-bodies in the test group ofr=0.207 andr=0.632;P>0.05 respectively.Conclusions: These findings suggest no alterations in levels of prostaglandin F2α, TNF and anti-oxidant between primary and secondary infertile females.展开更多

Compared with the control group, the average levels ofβ-HCG, progesterone, E2 and PLG in the pregnancy maintenance group and the interrupted pregnancy group were significantly decreased, and the level of the interrupted pregnancy group was significantly lower than that of the pregnancy maintenance group. The levels of PC, D-D, TAT, F1+2 and PAI-1 in the pregnancy maintenance group and the interrupted pregnancy group were significantly higher than those in the control group, and the level of the interrupted pregnancy group was significantly higher than that of the pregnancy maintenance group. There was no significant difference in the level of AT III between the groups.Conclusion: There are significant abnormal levels of reproductive hormones, prethrombotic state markers and coagulation related factors in patients with threatened abortion in early pregnancy, the detection of its index level is of great value in predicting threatened abortion in the early stage.展开更多

Objective: To investigate seasonal changes in some reproductive characteristics of the male African straw-colored fruit bat [Eidolon (E.) helvum] in a tropical rain forest area of South-East Nigeria.Methods: Spermatoz...Objective: To investigate seasonal changes in some reproductive characteristics of the male African straw-colored fruit bat [Eidolon (E.) helvum] in a tropical rain forest area of South-East Nigeria.Methods: Spermatozoal characteristics in the testes and cauda epididymides, testicular histology, and the circulating levels of the reproductive hormones, testosterone, follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone were evaluated in male bats captured in late January (peak dry season), late May (early rainy season) and late September (late rainy season) of 2019. The bats were captured in Obiagu community in Enugu State, South-East Nigeria. Data were analyzed with analysis of variance. Results: There were high serum concentrations of testosterone in early and late rainy season and of luteinizing hormone in early rainy season, but the concentrations of both hormones were low during peak dry season. These hormonal changes corresponded with the testicular seminiferous and spermatogenic activities and testicular and epididymal sperm concentrations, which were also maximal during early and late rainy season but minimal during peak dry season. Epididymal sperm motility and vitality were also high in early and late rainy season but low in peak dry season, while sperm morphological abnormalities were low in early and late rainy season but elevated in peak dry season. There was histological evidence that spermatogenesis did not cease completely during testis regression, but continued at a reduced rate during the dry season. Conclusions: The findings do not support concurrent epididymal sperm storage with testis regression in E. helvum. Altogether, these indicate that seasonal changes significantly alter sperm characteristics, testicular histology and circulating levels of reproductive hormones in E. helvum within the study area.展开更多

[Method] The concentr...[Objective] The aim of this paper is to find the change law of reproductive hormones of female swamp buffalo in off season for estrus and to investigate the relationship between various hormones. [Method] The concentrations of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), inhibin (INH), estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4) were determined by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in off season for estrus. The changes of follicles in the estrous cycle were examined using B-mode ultrasonography. [Result] In off season for estrus of female swamp buffalo from Guangxi region, the blood concentration of E2 and P4 varied fluctuantly. The concentration of E2 had two peaks, respectively 3 d before ovulation and after 13 d post ovulation. The concentration of P4 increased slowly from the first day after ovulation, increased rapidly from 5 to 13 d, peaked on Day 16 and decreased to the baseline 3 d before ovulation. The concentrations of FSH, LH and INH reached a peak respectively after 10 d post ovulation, 2 d before ovulation, and after 4 d post ovulation. The changes of the hormones had correlations. The concentrations of FSH, LH and INH had highly significant correlations with each other, while the concentration of INH had highly significant correlations with that of E2 or P4. The concentration of E2 also had a highly significant correlation with that of P4. [Conclusion] The study can guide the breeding of swamp buffalo from Guangxi region and also help to improve their reproduction performance.展开更多
Background Maternal nutrition is essential in keeping a highly efficient production system in the pig industry.Laminarin has been shown to improve antioxidant capacity,reduce the inflammatory response,and favor the ho...Background Maternal nutrition is essential in keeping a highly efficient production system in the pig industry.Laminarin has been shown to improve antioxidant capacity,reduce the inflammatory response,and favor the homeostasis of intestinal microbiota.However,the effect of dietary supplementation of laminarin on the reproductive performance of sows and the growth of suckling offspring remains unknown.Methods A total of 40 Landrace×Yorkshire multiparous sows on d 85 of gestation,similar in age,body weight(BW),parity and reproductive performance,were randomly divided into four dietary treatments with 10 sows per treatment,receiving a control diet(basal pregnancy or lactating diets)and a basal diet supplemented with 0.025%,0.05%and 0.10%laminarin,respectively.The experiment lasted from d 85 of gestation to d 21 of lactation.Results Laminarin supplementation linearly increased number born alive per litter(P=0.03),average daily feed intake(ADFI,P<0.01),and total milk yield of sows during the lactation of 1–21 d(P=0.02).Furthermore,maternal laminarin supplementation increased the average daily gain(ADG)of piglets while tending to reduce the culling and death rate before weaning.In addition,alterations to the composition of colostrum and milk,as well as to serum inflammatory cytokines and immunoglobulins of sows were observed.The fecal microbiota profile of sows supported the improvement of reproductive performance in sows and the growth performance in suckling offspring.Conclusions Dietary supplementation of laminarin during late pregnancy and lactation could significantly improve reproductive performance of sows and growth performance of piglets.展开更多
Background Sex hormones play important roles in the estrus return of post-weaning sows.Previous studies have demonstrated a complex and bi-directional regulation between sex hormones and gut microbiota.However,the ext...Background Sex hormones play important roles in the estrus return of post-weaning sows.Previous studies have demonstrated a complex and bi-directional regulation between sex hormones and gut microbiota.However,the extent to which the gut microbiota affects estrus return of post-weaning sows is largely unknown.Results In this study,we first screened 207 fecal samples from well-phenotyped sows by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and identified significant associations between microbes and estrus return of post-weaning sows.Using metagenomic sequencing data from 85 fecal samples,we identified 37 bacterial species that were significantly associated with estrus return.Normally returning sows were characterized by increased abundances of L.reuteri and P.copri and decreased abundances of B.fragilis,S.suis,and B.pseudolongum.The changes in gut microbial composition significantly altered the functional capacity of steroid hormone biosynthesis in the gut microbiome.The results were confirmed in a validation cohort.Significant changes in sex steroid hormones and related compounds were found between normal and non-return sows via metabolome analysis.An integrated analysis of differential bacterial species,metagenome,and fecal metabolome provided evidence that normal return-associated bacterial species L.reuteri and Prevotella spp.participated in the degradation of pregnenolone,progesterone,and testosterone,thereby promoting estrogen biosynthesis.Furthermore,the microbial metabolites related to sow energy and nutrient supply or metabolic disorders also showed relationships with sow estrus return.Conclusions An integrated analysis of differentially abundant bacterial species,metagenome,and fecal metabolome revealed the involvement of L.reuteri and Prevotella spp.in sow estrus return.These findings provide deep insight into the role of gut microbiota in the estrus return of post-weaning sows and the complex cross-talk between gut microbiota and sex hormones,suggesting that the manipulation of the gut microbiota could be an effective strategy to improve sow estrus return after weaning.展开更多

文摘Background:This study aimed to investigate whether the combination of Macleaya cordata extract(MCE)and Bacil-lus could improve the laying performance and health of laying hens better.Methods:A total of 36029-week-old Jingbai laying hens were randomly divided into 4 treatments:control group(basal diet),MCE group(basal diet+MCE),Probiotics Bacillus Compound(PBC)group(basal diet+compound Bacil-lus),MCE+PBC group(basal diet+MCE+compound Bacillus).The feeding experiment lasted for 42 d.Results:The results showed that the laying rate and the average daily egg mass in the MCE+PBC group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05)and better than the MCE and PBC group.Combina-tion of MCE and Bacillus significantly increased the content of follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH)in the serum and up-regulated the expression of related hormone receptor gene(estrogen receptor-β,FSHR and luteinizing hormone/choriogonadotropin receptor)in the ovary of laying hens(P<0.05).In the MCE+PBC group,the mRNA expressions of zonula occluden-1,Occludin and mucin-2 in jejunum was increased and the intestinal epithelial barrier detected by transmission electron microscopy was enhanced compared with the control group(P<0.05).In addition,compared with the control group,combination of MCE and Bacillus significantly increased the total antioxidant capacity and catalase activity(P<0.05),and down-regulated the mRNA expressions of inflammation-related genes(interleukin-1βand tumor necrosis factor-α)as well as apoptosis-related genes(Caspase 3,Caspase 8 and P53)(P<0.05).The concen-tration of acetic acid and butyric acid in the cecum content of laying hens in the MCE+PBC group was significantly increased compared with the control group(P<0.05).Conclusions:Collectively,dietary supplementation of 600μg/kg MCE and 5×108 CFU/kg compound Bacillus can improve laying performance by improving microbiota to enhance antioxidant capacity and intestinal barrier,regulate reproductive hormones and the concentration of cecal short-chain fatty acids of laying hens,and the combined effect of MCE and Bacillus is better than that of single supplementation.

文摘[Objectives]This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Polygonatum odoratum polysaccharide(POP)on organ relative weights and reproductive hormone levels in male rats fed a high-fat diet.[Methods]Thirty healthy male Sprague-Dawley(SD)rats were randomly divided into two groups according to their body weight:10 in normal control group(Group NC,n=10)and 20 in experimental group(n=20).The rats in experimental group were fed a high-fat diet for eight weeks before they were further randomly divided into two groups:high fat group(Group HF)and high fat+400 mg/(kg·d)POP group(Group HF+POP).In Group HF+POP,the rats were administered with POP for another six weeks,before their blood plasma was collected,and the relative weights of their testis and epididymis were calculated.The plasma levels of testosterone(T),estrogen(E2),follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH),cortisol(C)and luteinizing hormone(LH)were measured by radioimmunoassay,and the plasma levels of sex hormone-binding globulin(SHBG)and insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1)were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.[Results]Compared with Group HF,POP could effectively inhibit rat obesity caused by high-fat diets,increase the relative weights of their testis and epididymis,plasma levels of LH,E2,FSH,T,SHBG and IGF-1,and reduce the plasma level of E2.[Conclusions]Polygonatum odoratum polysaccharide(POP)is able to effectively regulate the level of reproductive hormones in high-fat diet fed rats,and helps to protect their reproductive function.

文摘Objective:To evaluate the legacy and novel per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances(PFAS)exposure in women of reproductive age,and to explore the effects on female reproductive hormones.Methods:We used cross-sectional data of 433 normal women of reproductive age from 2013 to 2015.Data of age,age at menarche,parity,BMI,education,and income were collected through questionnaires,serum samples were collected for reproductive hormones,and plasma samples for PFAS measurement by ultraperformance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometer(UPLC-MS/MS).Multiple linear regression and quantile g-computation were adopted to analyze the association between PFAS and reproductive hormones.Results:The detection rates of 6:2 Cl-PFESA,8:2 Cl-PFESA and HFPO-DA in the plasma were 100%,99.8%and 99.9%,respectively.The median concentrations of these chemicals were 2.27 ng/mL,0.07 ng/mL and 0.03 ng/mL,respectively.Multiple linear regression analysis showed a positive association between branched PFOS[1m-PFOS(β=0.131,95%CI:0.021,0.242),br-PFOS(β=0.119,95%CI:0.005,0.234)]and progesterone.In addition,mixed exposure model suggested that PFAS had a positive association with progesterone(β=0.549,95%CI:0.323,0.774).Conclusion:In this study,a mixed exposure model was used to evaluate the combined effects of PFAS mixtures,reflecting the association between multiple environmental PFAS exposure and reproductive hormones,and a higher concentration of novel PFAS was found in women of reproductive age,confirming that PFAS exposure may be related to reproductive hormone disorders in women of reproductive age.
文摘There are limited studies examining the relationship between serum reproductive hormone levels and sexual functions among prostate cancer (PCa) patients after rapid prostatectomy (RP). They also completed a structured health and lifestyle questionnaire to obtain information on their demographic characteristics and detailed medical history.</span></span></span><span><span><span style="font-family:;" "=""> </span></span></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Our data indicated normal mean levels of post-operative Te (4.34 ± 4.38 ng/ml) in the patients following RP, while the mean levels of FSH (39.24 ± 34.12 miu/ml) and LH (21.67 ± 25.73 miu/ml) were on the increase and far above normal ranges for healthy men. Data indicated a significant positive correlation between Te and frequency of sexual intercourse (r = 508;p < 0.05), libido (r = 0.429;p < 0.05) and penile erection (r = 0.494;p < 0.05). However, no significant correlations were found between FSH or LH and any of the sexual function parameters.</span></span></span><span><span><span style="font-family:;" "=""> </span></span></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">The present study indicated that radical prostatectomy affected reproductive hormones by increasing LH and FSH concentrations above normal ranges for healthy men, while Te concentrations remained within normal range in the months following RP. The postoperative serum total Te concentrations of the patients were significantly associated with their postoperative sex drive, penile erection and frequency of sexual intercourse.</span></span></span>

文摘BACKGROUND The excessive concentration of leptin has negative effects on all aspects of female reproduction.Despite this established relationship,the exact role of leptin in women’s fertility is not clear enough and needs more clarification.AIM To evaluate the serum leptin levels in Sudanese women and to ascertain the relationship between serum leptin levels and unexplained infertility(UI).METHODS A matched(age and body mass index)case-control study was conducted from March 2021 to February 2022.The study samples were 210 women with UI and 190 fertile women of reproductive age who were attending the maternity hospitals and fertility clinics in Khartoum state Sudan.The serum concentration of leptin and other serum biomarkers were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays.RESULTS The results showed that there was a highly statistically significant difference between the two groups(P<0.001)for all examined eight biomarkers.Whereby,leptin,luteinizing hormone(LH)/follicular stimulating hormone(FSH)ratio,prolactin hormone(PRL)and testosterone(T)were significantly higher in the UI group compared with the control group.In contrast,FSH and estradiol(E2)/T ratio were significantly lower in the UI group than in the control group and the effect size test for the difference between the two groups was very large(effect size>0.80),for leptin level,LH/FSH ratio,PRL level,and E2/T ratio,and large(effect size 0.50-≤0.80)for FSH and T.CONCLUSION This study reveals that leptin could be a potential biomarker for UI in Sudanese women and it may be useful for identifying women with a high risk of infertility.
文摘Objective:To investigate the change patterns of reproductive hormones in serum of aging males and the difference among male age brackets and the prevalence rates of late onset of hypogonadism(LOH) in males in Chinese middle and aging males. Methods:Subjects included 1,498 men aged 40 to 69 from a county,and the serum reproductive hormones of 434 subjects were measured and calculated.In addition,the prevalence rates of LOH were analyzed by cut-off point of total testosterone(TT) and free testosterone(cFT),and screening scales(a questionnaire of androgen deficiency in the aging males(ADAM) and a scale of aging males’ symptoms(AMS)).TT,cFT,bio-available testosterone (Bio-T),luteinizing hormone(LH),sex hormone binding globulin(SHBG),testosterone secretion index(TSI), free testosterone index(FTD,the positive rates of LOH screening,androgen deficiency rates and the clinical prevalence rates of LOH were measured or calculated. Results:The serum TT levels did not change significantly with male aging while serum LH and SHBG levels gradually increased,but cFT,Bio-T,TSI and FTI levels gradually decreased with male aging.There was very significant difference in other six parameters of reproductive hormones(P<0.01),except for serum TT among the four age brackets(P>0.05).There was no correlation between serum TT levels and aging,LH levels(P>0.05). However,there was significantly a positive correlation between serum LH,SHBG and age(P<0.01),while there were negative correlation between cFT,Bio-T,TSI,FTI and age,LH levels(P<0.01).Moreover,SHBG level was positively correlated with LH level(P<0.01). Utilizing the Questionnaire of ADAM and AMS to screen subjects aged 40 to 69 years,mean positive rates of LOH screening were 80.77%and 32.34%respectively.Mean androgen deficiency rates were 14.02%and 43.69% by using TT and cFT cut-off point.In addition,mean LOH clinical prevalence rates of subjects on positive questionnaire results were 37.85%and 15.42%. Conclusion:The serum TT levels did not change significantly with male aging while serum LH,SHBG,cFT, Bio-T,TSI and FTI levels had the gradient change with aging.On the basis of Chinese population,however,the positive rate of LOH screening,androgen deficiency rate and clinical prevalence rate of LOH were obviously higher than that those of the other foreign studies.
文摘<strong>Background: </strong>Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a common condition which occurs as men get older. <strong>Aim:</strong> We aimed at investigating the reproductive hormone profile of men with BPH and the relationship of these hormones with age. <strong>Methods:</strong> Twenty-nine men of age > 40 years were screened for prostate symptoms. The prostate examination included digital rectal examination and measurement of serum prostate-specific antigen levels. Demographic and clinical characteristics of subjects were obtained using a structured questionnaire. The serum levels of Testosterone (Te), Luteinizing hormone (LH), Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and Prolactin (PRL) were measured using ELISA method. <strong>Results:</strong> Our study indicated that age and levels of prostate specific antigen (PSA), LH and FSH were significantly (p < 0.05) higher in men with BPH compared with healthy controls. In contrast, the control group indicated significantly (p < 0.05) higher Te level compared with the BPH group. In patients with BPH, age was significantly (p < 0.05) correlated with the hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular axis hormones (LH, FSH and PRL), but not with the sex hormone, and testosterone. Majority (62.1%) of the patients with BPH indicated they had poor libido, while none of them indicated regular sexual activity with their spouses. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> This study suggests that the rise in serum levels of the hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular axis hormones in BPH patients as demonstrated by the present findings may be age-related since testicular dysfunction in aging men is associated with the decrease in androgen production which may stimulate an increased production of gonadotropins by negative feedback.
文摘BACKGROUND Improper methods of contraception greatly increase the risk of abortion,cervical or endometrial lesions,and the number of recurrent artificial abortions.These complications result in the deterioration of a patient’s outcome.Further,the proportion of artificial abortions is highest among unmarried females.Placement of an intrauterine device,such as the Mirena,after an artificial abortion may decrease the likelihood of an endometrial injury caused by recurrent abortions while significantly improving its contraceptive effects.AIM To discuss the effect of Mirena placement on reproductive hormone levels at different time points after an artificial abortion.METHODS Women(n=119)undergoing an artificial abortion operation were divided into the study(n=56)and control(n=63)groups.In the study group,the Mirena was inserted immediately after the artificial abortion,whereas in the control group,it was inserted 4–7 d after the onset of the first menstrual cycle after abortion.All participants were followed-up for 6 mo to observe the continuation and expulsion rates and adverse reactions and to measure the levels of serum estradiol(E2),follicle stimulating hormone(FSH),and luteinizing hormone(LH).RESULTS The continuation rates were 94.64%and 93.65%in the study group and the control group,respectively.The expulsion rates were 1.79%and 3.17%in the study group and the control group,respectively.There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).There were also no statistically significant differences in the proportion of patients with bacterial vaginitis,trichomonas vaginitis,or cervicitis between the groups(P>0.05).Six months after Mirena placement,E2 Levels were 45.50±7.13 pg/mL and 42.91±8.10 pg/mL,FSH 13.60±3.24 mIU/mL and 14.54±3.11 mIU/mL,and LH 15.11±2.08 mIU/mL and 14.60±3.55 mIU/mL in the study and control groups,respectively.There were no significant differences in hormone levels between the two groups(P>0.05).There were also no statistically significant differences in the proportions of abnormal menstruation,prolonged menstruation,or pain during intercourse between the study and control groups after Mirena placement(P>0.05).There were no statistically significant differences in uterine volume,sexual desire,sexual activity,or the sexual satisfaction score between the study and control groups before and after Mirena placement(P>0.05).CONCLUSION Placement of a Mirena intrauterine device immediately after an artificial abortion does not increase the risk of adverse reactions and can help prevent endometrial injury caused by recurrent abortions.
文摘The failure of testicular descent (cryptorchidism) is known to cause abnormal testicular development and function. Unilateral cryptorchidism is prevalent in West African Dwarf (WAD) goats particularly in some areas where affected bucks are presumed to have better libido and reproductive efficiency by farmers. Androgens produced by the testes can influence libido and other hormonal and metabolic processes in the body. The study investigated the influence of natural unilateral cryptorchidism on serum reproductive hormones, total protein, lipid profile, oxidative stress, and haematology and libido in WAD bucks. Ten WAD bucks (aged 12 - 14 months) comprising 5 bucks with normal descended testes (N group) and 5 unilaterally-cryptorchid bucks (UC group) were studied. Blood and sera were collected and evaluated for haematology, serum total proteins and lipids (cholesterol, triglycerides and lipoproteins) concentrations, serum oxidative stress (catalase and lipid peroxidation activity), and serum levels of reproductive hormones (testosterone, FSH and LH). Libido testing of bucks was also performed by randomly isolating and confining each individual male with a doe on standing heat and recording the number of mountings made by the male within a period of 5 minutes as the libido score. The evaluated haematological indices and serum levels of proteins, lipids, oxidative stress indicators and reproductive hormones were not significantly different between the N and UC groups (p > 0.05). Although a higher mean libido score was recorded in N bucks compared to the UC group, this difference was not significant. Whereas no negative effects were observed in the evaluated physiologic indices in UC bucks, these findings do not support the presumption by farmers that UC bucks have better libido than bucks with fully descended testes. Therefore, these animals should not be selected for breeding to avoid increasing the prevalence of unilateral cryptorchidism due to its genetic attribute.

文摘Objective:To compare the prolactin, progesterone, luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, estradiol, antisperm antibodies, tumor necrosis factorα, total antioxidant capacity, prostaglandin E2 and F2α between primary and secondary infertile women in Calabar.Methods:One hundred and two volunteers infertile women (test group), aged 20-45 years attending the infertility clinic in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) were recruited. Fourteen of the women had primary infertility while 88 of them had secondary infertility. Sixty apparently healthy, age matched women served as the control group. Five millilitres of blood was collected, allowed to clot and serum was obtained from the subjects and Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay method was used for prolactin, progesterone, estradiol, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), prostaglandin E2and F2α, human TNF-α,Chlamydia trachomatis IgG, antisperm antibodies assay, while serum total antioxidant capacity was assessed spectrophotometrically.Results:The result shows on comparison that primary infertile women has a significantly higher level of progesterone than those with secondary infertility (P>0.05). There was a significant difference in the levels of prolactin and total antioxidant capacity in the primary and secondary infertility when compare to the control group atP>0.05. Their mean ages were (31.10±5.37) years and (33.10±4.91) years respectively. There was a positive correlation between TAC and FSH, TNF and anti-sperm anti-bodies in the test group ofr=0.207 andr=0.632;P>0.05 respectively.Conclusions: These findings suggest no alterations in levels of prostaglandin F2α, TNF and anti-oxidant between primary and secondary infertile females.
文摘The levels of plasma luteinizing hormone(LHt)、 estrogen(E2) and progesterone(P4) were determined in one hundred and ninety-eight SLA-typed sows of Chinese lean-type dam-line(DVI). During the lactation, the levels of LH、E2 and P4 were Iow, which had no significant differences in different SLA-typed sows.E2 reached its peak at breeding day. LHt and P4 reached their peaks at 15th day of pregnancy. Compared with other SLA-typed sows, type-D had higher levels of E2 and P4 at breeding day, higher levels of P4 during early pregnancy, which favored the oestrus, breeding and pregnancy of sows.
文摘Objective:To investigate the changes and significance of reproductive hormones, prethrombotic state markers and coagulation related factors in threatened abortion in early pregnancy.Methods:Review the clinical data of threatened abortion in early pregnancy (include continuing pregnancy and miscarriages) and healthy pregnant women in the early pregnancy in our hospital, and the levels of reproductive hormones, prethrombotic state markers and coagulation related factors were compared between the three groups.Results: The results of single factor variance showed that the levels ofβ-HCG, progesterone, E2, PC, PLG, D-D, TAT, F1+2 and PAI-1 level were all statistically significant. Compared with the control group, the average levels ofβ-HCG, progesterone, E2 and PLG in the pregnancy maintenance group and the interrupted pregnancy group were significantly decreased, and the level of the interrupted pregnancy group was significantly lower than that of the pregnancy maintenance group. The levels of PC, D-D, TAT, F1+2 and PAI-1 in the pregnancy maintenance group and the interrupted pregnancy group were significantly higher than those in the control group, and the level of the interrupted pregnancy group was significantly higher than that of the pregnancy maintenance group. There was no significant difference in the level of AT III between the groups.Conclusion: There are significant abnormal levels of reproductive hormones, prethrombotic state markers and coagulation related factors in patients with threatened abortion in early pregnancy, the detection of its index level is of great value in predicting threatened abortion in the early stage.

文摘[Objective] To provide a theoretical basis for improving reproductive efficiency of domestic beef cattle in Jilin of China.[Method] China Red Steppe cattle,Yanbian yellow cattle and Simmental cattle in Jilin Province were used for detection.The levels of progesterone(P4),estradiol(E2),follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH) and luteinizing hormone(LH) in serum and urine during estrus cycle were determined.[Result] The levels of P4 and E2 were significantly different between pregnant cattle and non-pregnant cattle on Day 21 post estrus(P < 0.01).The level of LH on estrus day was significantly different from that on the other days of estrus cycle(P < 0.05).[Conclusion] It is feasible to detect P4 level for diagnosis of estrus and early pregnancy in beef cattle.

文摘Objective: To investigate seasonal changes in some reproductive characteristics of the male African straw-colored fruit bat [Eidolon (E.) helvum] in a tropical rain forest area of South-East Nigeria.Methods: Spermatozoal characteristics in the testes and cauda epididymides, testicular histology, and the circulating levels of the reproductive hormones, testosterone, follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone were evaluated in male bats captured in late January (peak dry season), late May (early rainy season) and late September (late rainy season) of 2019. The bats were captured in Obiagu community in Enugu State, South-East Nigeria. Data were analyzed with analysis of variance. Results: There were high serum concentrations of testosterone in early and late rainy season and of luteinizing hormone in early rainy season, but the concentrations of both hormones were low during peak dry season. These hormonal changes corresponded with the testicular seminiferous and spermatogenic activities and testicular and epididymal sperm concentrations, which were also maximal during early and late rainy season but minimal during peak dry season. Epididymal sperm motility and vitality were also high in early and late rainy season but low in peak dry season, while sperm morphological abnormalities were low in early and late rainy season but elevated in peak dry season. There was histological evidence that spermatogenesis did not cease completely during testis regression, but continued at a reduced rate during the dry season. Conclusions: The findings do not support concurrent epididymal sperm storage with testis regression in E. helvum. Altogether, these indicate that seasonal changes significantly alter sperm characteristics, testicular histology and circulating levels of reproductive hormones in E. helvum within the study area.

文摘[Objective] The aim of this paper is to find the change law of reproductive hormones of female swamp buffalo in off season for estrus and to investigate the relationship between various hormones. [Method] The concentrations of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), inhibin (INH), estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4) were determined by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in off season for estrus. The changes of follicles in the estrous cycle were examined using B-mode ultrasonography. [Result] In off season for estrus of female swamp buffalo from Guangxi region, the blood concentration of E2 and P4 varied fluctuantly. The concentration of E2 had two peaks, respectively 3 d before ovulation and after 13 d post ovulation. The concentration of P4 increased slowly from the first day after ovulation, increased rapidly from 5 to 13 d, peaked on Day 16 and decreased to the baseline 3 d before ovulation. The concentrations of FSH, LH and INH reached a peak respectively after 10 d post ovulation, 2 d before ovulation, and after 4 d post ovulation. The changes of the hormones had correlations. The concentrations of FSH, LH and INH had highly significant correlations with each other, while the concentration of INH had highly significant correlations with that of E2 or P4. The concentration of E2 also had a highly significant correlation with that of P4. [Conclusion] The study can guide the breeding of swamp buffalo from Guangxi region and also help to improve their reproduction performance.

文摘Background Maternal nutrition is essential in keeping a highly efficient production system in the pig industry.Laminarin has been shown to improve antioxidant capacity,reduce the inflammatory response,and favor the homeostasis of intestinal microbiota.However,the effect of dietary supplementation of laminarin on the reproductive performance of sows and the growth of suckling offspring remains unknown.Methods A total of 40 Landrace×Yorkshire multiparous sows on d 85 of gestation,similar in age,body weight(BW),parity and reproductive performance,were randomly divided into four dietary treatments with 10 sows per treatment,receiving a control diet(basal pregnancy or lactating diets)and a basal diet supplemented with 0.025%,0.05%and 0.10%laminarin,respectively.The experiment lasted from d 85 of gestation to d 21 of lactation.Results Laminarin supplementation linearly increased number born alive per litter(P=0.03),average daily feed intake(ADFI,P<0.01),and total milk yield of sows during the lactation of 1–21 d(P=0.02).Furthermore,maternal laminarin supplementation increased the average daily gain(ADG)of piglets while tending to reduce the culling and death rate before weaning.In addition,alterations to the composition of colostrum and milk,as well as to serum inflammatory cytokines and immunoglobulins of sows were observed.The fecal microbiota profile of sows supported the improvement of reproductive performance in sows and the growth performance in suckling offspring.Conclusions Dietary supplementation of laminarin during late pregnancy and lactation could significantly improve reproductive performance of sows and growth performance of piglets.

文摘Background Sex hormones play important roles in the estrus return of post-weaning sows.Previous studies have demonstrated a complex and bi-directional regulation between sex hormones and gut microbiota.However,the extent to which the gut microbiota affects estrus return of post-weaning sows is largely unknown.Results In this study,we first screened 207 fecal samples from well-phenotyped sows by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and identified significant associations between microbes and estrus return of post-weaning sows.Using metagenomic sequencing data from 85 fecal samples,we identified 37 bacterial species that were significantly associated with estrus return.Normally returning sows were characterized by increased abundances of L.reuteri and P.copri and decreased abundances of B.fragilis,S.suis,and B.pseudolongum.The changes in gut microbial composition significantly altered the functional capacity of steroid hormone biosynthesis in the gut microbiome.The results were confirmed in a validation cohort.Significant changes in sex steroid hormones and related compounds were found between normal and non-return sows via metabolome analysis.An integrated analysis of differential bacterial species,metagenome,and fecal metabolome provided evidence that normal return-associated bacterial species L.reuteri and Prevotella spp.participated in the degradation of pregnenolone,progesterone,and testosterone,thereby promoting estrogen biosynthesis.Furthermore,the microbial metabolites related to sow energy and nutrient supply or metabolic disorders also showed relationships with sow estrus return.Conclusions An integrated analysis of differentially abundant bacterial species,metagenome,and fecal metabolome revealed the involvement of L.reuteri and Prevotella spp.in sow estrus return.These findings provide deep insight into the role of gut microbiota in the estrus return of post-weaning sows and the complex cross-talk between gut microbiota and sex hormones,suggesting that the manipulation of the gut microbiota could be an effective strategy to improve sow estrus return after weaning.
