In vitro supplementation with date seed oil (DSO) can protect spermatozoa against hydrogen peroxide (HiO2)- mediated damage and can improve sperm function, possibly owing to antioxidant properties. We tested the antioxidant effects of DSO on human sperm motility, sperm viability, reacted acrosome and lipid peroxidation assessed in vitro after H202-mediated oxidative damage in spermatozoa. Sixteen patients (mean age: 35 years; range: 25-45 years) referred to the Histology-Embryology Laboratory of the Medicine Faculty of Sfax for semen analysis after 12-24 months of sexual intercourse without conception were selected. After spermiogram, sperm selection by twointerface discontinuous Sill Select gradient was performed, and selected spermatozoa were used in four experimental assays: control; incubation with 100um H2O2; incubation with 0.1% DSO; and co-incubation with 0.1% DSO and 100 um H2O2. Motility and viability were determined using World Health Organization criteria. Acrosome reaction and lipid peroxidation were assessed by staining with fluorescein isothiocyanate-Pisum sativum and spectrophotometric measurement of malondialdehyde, respectively. Results showed that incubation with H2O2 alone led to a significant increase in lipid peroxidation (57.83%, P 〈 0.05) associated with a significant decrease in sperm motility, sperm viability (after 30 min and 24 h) and percentage of reacted acrosome (P 〈 0.05). Date seed oil im- proved sperm motility after 24 h of incubation (P 〈 0.05) and protected spermatozoa against the deleterious effects of H2O2 on motility, viability, acrosome reaction and lipid peroxidation. We conclude that supplementation with DSO may have a function in antioxidant protection against male infertility. 展开更多

[Method] Spine date seed oil was extracted by supercritical carbon dioxide extraction technology. And then the molecular distillation technology was used to reduce the acid value and peroxide value of spine date seed oil. Activated carbon and carclazyte were used to process the decolorization and deodorization treatment using the absorption characteristics. [Result] The light yellow, clear pine date seed oil with shallow taste was obtained, which had an acid value of 2.03 mg/g, peroxide value of 4 mmol/kg; the GC indicated that the oil contained 5.00% of palmitic acid, 2.00% of stearic acid, 40.46% of oleic acid, 47.72% of linoleic acid and 0.39% of linolenic. [Conclusion] The obtained spine date seed oil basically conformed to the national edible oil standard and could be used as edible oil, but its pharmacological properties needed further study. 展开更多

Adsorption kinetics in multi-component systems has been a subject of intensive research because it is of both theoretical and practical importance. In this paper, raw date palm seeds (RDPS) were investigated to assess the possible use of this raw material as an effective adsorbent for the removal of sulfate from aqueous solution. The influence of various parameters such as sulfate initial concentration, pH, adsorbent dose and stirring time has been studied for the adsorption of sulfate in batch mode. Effects of foreign anions on the adsorption of sulfate onto RDPS have been also investigated. The pseudo-second-order, Elovich and intraparticle diffusion kinetic models have been developed to predict the rate constants of adsorption and equilibrium capacities. The maximum adsorption capacity of sulfate (qe ≈3.2 mg/g) onto RDPS was reached for the initial sulfate concentration = 100 mg/L, pH - 3.5, adsorbent dose = 10 g/L and for a stirring intensity = 200 rpm at 25 ± 2 ℃. The results showed that the adsorption of sulfate onto this raw materials followed pseudo-second-order rate kinetic predicting a chemisorption process. 展开更多

This study was carried out to study the effect of adding different levels of date palm seed (Phoentix dactyliJProus) powder in the diet of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) at fish laboratory of Animal Production Department, College of Agricultural Sciences, Sulaimani University, Sulaimani, Iraq. The actual experimental feeding trials were conducted for 70 d and the adaptation period for 21 d. A total of 81 common carp fingerlings weighted 62 ± 2 g were divided into three experimental groups. The control treatment T1 was with 0 g date palm seed, T2 with 2.5 g date palm seed per kg diet and T3 with 5 g date palm seed per kg diet. Each treatment was in three replicates in which three common carp fingerlings were stocked in each aquarium which fed the experimental diets twice daily. The results indicated that weight gain (WG) and specific growth rate (SGR) in the third treatment (T3) group were significantly higher than those of fish fed control diets. T2 consumed more diet than other treatments with 306.940 g with higher feed conversion ratio (FCR); T3 was higher significantly in food efficiency. No significant (P 〈 0.05) differences obtained from consumed protein while the protein efficiency ratio was significantly higher in T3 with 319.323. Control was higher significantly in flesh weight without viscera with the third treatment; in flesh weight without head and viscera each the control and the second treatment was significantly higher than the third treatment. As a conclusion, the date palm seeds powder have a positive effect on growth performance of common carp. 展开更多

The soybean cultivar Yudou25 was sown at 5 locations of Henan Province on 13 differentdates in 2001 and 2002. The data of isoflavone contents for the 109 samples of soybeanseed and 33 eco-physiological factors including meteorological factors, soil nutritionand altitudes were received and used for statistical analysis. The step-wise regressionwas used to screen the correlated factors, which significantly effected isoflavonecontents. Results showed that 9 eco-physiological factors were highly correlated withisoflavones. Low mean temperature, high diurnal temperature range at seed filling andmaturity, more sunlight hours and low mean temperature at emergence were favorable toisoflavone accumulation. The rainfall at emergence showed a nonlinear relationship withisoflavone content and its optimum value was 75 mm for isoflavone formation. Low diurnaltemperature range at branching, high organic matter and low sulfur content in soil weresuitable for the formation of isoflavones. The isoflavone contents would not be affectedby other eco-physiological factors in this study. 展开更多

It was a meal made from barley flour and milk. The high antioxidant Talbina was formulated from whole flour of harley and oat, milk, date palm syrup (debis) and date palm seeds. The chemical composition, organoleptic properties and antioxidant activity of high antioxidant Talbina were determined. Sensory evaluation of traditional and high antioxidant Talbina showed that the developed product Talbina was considered as good for overall acceptability of all panelists. Also, the formulated Talbina contains high values of antioxidants components and natural nutrients. The antioxidant activity of formulated Talbina containing barley or oat may be due to presence of phenolic compounds and proanthocyanidins in the barley and oat. Increasing the antioxidant activity of high antioxidant Talbina containing barley and oat may be due to the adding of dates palm seeds which contain very high values of phenolic compounds and other antioxidants components. Date palm seeds as well as barley and/or oat give high antioxidants components which protect cells from oxidative stress and help to reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease as well as natural anti-depressant. Moreover, increasing the antioxidant activity in the formulated Talbina may play a role for reducing power, radical scavenging activity and the lipid peroxidation inhibition. In conclusion, supplementation of traditional Talbina containing barley and/or oat with date palm syrup (debis) and date palm seeds can produce simple and healthy meal to provide a good source of daily dietary antioxidants and micronutrients. 展开更多

Two new kinds of wood vinegars(WVs) from the hull of spina date seed(HSDS) and the shell of peanut(PS) were prepared. 32 Major components in the two kinds of WVs were identified and determined by gas chro- matograph-mass spectrometery. The total phenolic content was determined and the antioxidant activity of the WV was measured. The total phenolic contents of PSWV and HSDSWV were 75.9 and 98.1 rag/L, respectively, when they were expressed as catechol equivalents. In 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl assay, free radical scavenging activity of HSDSWV was also superior than that of PSWV. In addition, the antioxidant activities of the two kind of WVs exhibited a good positive correlation with total phenolic content, and the linear correlation coefficients ranged from 0.9594 to 0.9970. The two kind of WVs could be used in the fields of food and medicine due to their powerful antioxidant activities. 展开更多
