The undrained shear strength on the intrinsic strength line is different from the remolded undrained shear strength that is an important parameter for design and construction of land reclamation. The void index is used in this study for normalizing the remolded strength behavior of dredged deposits. A quantitative relationship between remolded undrained shear strength and void index is established based on extensive data of dredged deposits available from sources of literature. Furthermore, the normalized remolded undrained shear strength is compared with intrinsic strength line. The comparison result indicates that the ratio of undrained shear strength on the intrinsic strength line over remolded undrained shear strength increases with an increase in applied consolidated stress.展开更多

Our results showed that the obtained ceramics have more homogeneous microstructure, higher density, higher flexural strength, and favorable biocompatibility compared to the regular one. During the process, cornstarch granules swelled and deformed but no fracture was observed. After the cornstarch granules bursted, alumina particles were suspended uniformly in the three-dimensional network structure to generate a much smoother surface. Below 0.5 wt% higher cornstarch content increased the flexural strength of prepared ceramics, while above 0.5 wt% the mechanical properties were compromised. Therefore the cornstarch content of 0.5% was the optimal concentration to achieve the highest mechanical strength of the prepared ceramics, with a measured flexural strength of 341 MPa, and a relative density of 96.01%.展开更多

Aluminum composites possess higher stiffness, strength, fatigue properties and low weight advantages.Carbon fiber reinforced Al composites (Al-Cf) and silicon carbide particulate reinforced Al composites (Al-SiCp) were shock densified using axisymmetric assemblies for underwater explosions. Unidirectional planar shock waves were applied to obtain uniform consolidation of the composites. The energy generator was a high explosive of 6.9 km/s detonation velocity. Irregular morphological powders of Al were the base material. The reinforcement ratio was 15 Vol. pct for Al-Cf composites and 30 Vol. pct for Al-SiCp composites. The microstructural and the strength characteristics of the shock consolidated Al composites are reported.展开更多
