Groundwater resources in karst area in Southern China and sustainable utilization pattern 被引量:5

Occurrence conditions of groundwater in southern karst area are complicated. The water-bearing media in the karst have multiplicity, and the groundwater is hosted in holes, gaps, seams, pipes and caves. The karst water shows heterogeneity where fast and slow flow coexist, and the Darcy and non-Darcy flow coexist, and the liquid flow, the gas flow and solid flow coexist. The evaluation and investigation indicates that the mineable resource of karst groundwater is about 53.44 billion m^3/y, and the current exploitation quantity is merely 6.565 billion m^3/year. The exploitation and utilization potential is gigantic. In the region there are altogether 2 763 karst subterranean rivers with a total length of 12 687 km. The dry season runoff volume equals to 47 billion m^3/year. At present the exploitation is only 10%. Four effective utilization models of karst groundwater resources have been put forward.(1) The karst hills-depression zone formed the surface-underground united reservoir. By digging tunnels, water diversion irrigation and generating electricity, the ecological economy is developed.(2) In the deep-cut peak cluster depression area, by using the high-part Epikarst spring and constructing the regulation and storage water tank, the stereo ecological agriculture is developed.(3) In the karst peak forest plain and hilly-gully area, the pump-type underground regulating reservoir is constructed and the water-saving ecological agriculture is strengthened.(4) In the fault basin region with the surrounding groundwater runoff belting beam backwater, the water resources are jointly controlled to develop a fruit crop base within the basin. 展开更多

Background:Non-timber forest products(NTFPs)are an important part of forest biodiversity,and the subsistence and trade of local people,especially in less developed countries.Because of the high ecological and economic value,NTFPs have faced the problem of over-exploitation,and the key to solve this problem is to determine the feasible way of sustainable utilization of NTFPs.Harvest intensity is one of the most important and easily controlled utilization factors,which can greatly influence the plant individual survival,growth and reproductive performances,and even the population structure and dynamics.Therefore,we chose two common and important NTFPs species with different marketable parts(i.e.,Acanthopanax senticosus with tender leaves and Aralia elata with tender buds)as our study objects.Aiming to determine the optimum harvest intensity for sustainably utilizing both NTFPs species,five levels of harvest intensity treatments(i.e.,control,light,medium,high and severe)were designed to assess the effects of harvest intensity on their marketable organ yield,plant growth and reproductive performances.Results:The biomass growth rates of marketable organ and plant growth of A.senticosus under light harvest intensity treatment were significantly higher than those under other harvest intensities.The plant height growth and 1000-seed weight of A.elata under severe harvest intensity treatment were significantly lower than those under control treatment.Conclusions:The light harvest intensity with 25% leaf removal and the high harvest intensity with all terminal buds harvested are the optimum harvest intensity to maintain the sustainable utilization of A.senticosus and A.elata,respectively.These findings could provide managers with basic but practical guidance for making decisions about the sustainable harvest management plan for the cultivated NTFPs species,and further provide a theoretical basis for managers to establish the harvest regulations for wild NTFPs species.Consequently,the local residents or communities can improve their income while ensure the sustainable development of wild NTFPs. 展开更多

The study on the sustainable utilization of water resources of Jinan city is a research hotspot in the urban sustainable development field.How to use a scientific and rational evaluation index system to analyze the sustainable utilization of water resources of Jinan city and then guide the development and utilization of water resources becomes particularly important.Based on the theory of sustainable development this study introduces the method,basic steps and evaluation indexes of the assessment of the development and utilization of water resources.By systemic analyzing the exploitation and utilization standards of water resources and economy and society in Jinan city,the evaluation and index system of sustainable utilization of water resources in Jinan city can be constructed and index weight can be confirmed,and then,the standard of sustainable utilization of water resources in different years can be analyzed comparably.Thus,the deficiency of lack of reflection of coordination extent in water resources development standard,society and economy in traditional evaluation method is settled efficiently.The paper takes the sustainable utilization of water resources of Qingdao City in 2008 as the standard to compare and assess the water resources utilization in Jinan City.The paper also collects data of water resources in Jinan City from 2001 to 2007.The result indicates that evaluation method is of feasibility and it is effective to the implementation of sustainable utilization strategy water resources in Jinan City. 展开更多

Porous materials applied in environmental remediation have received researchers'extensive attention recently,but the related green and convenient preparation method is rarely reported.Here,we recommended a green and convenient strategy for the fabrication of porous material via aqueous foam templates,which was synergistically stabilized by Codonopsis pilosula(CP)and clay minerals of attapulgite(APT).The characterization results revealed that the APT was modified by organic molecules leached from CP and anchored at the air-water interface,which improved the foam stability significantly.The novel porous material of polyacrylamide/Codonopsis pilosula/attapulgite(PAM/CP/APT)templated from the aqueous foam via a polymerization reaction had excellent adsorption capacity for the cationic dyes methyl violet(MV)and methylene blue(MB),and the adsorption capacity can reach 755.85 mg/g and557.64 mg/g,respectively.More importantly,the adsorption capacity of spent adsorbent material was still over 200 mg/g after being recycled five times through a simple carbonization process,and then it was added to the plant pot,the total biomass was increased by about86.42%.This study provided a green and sustainable pathway for the preparation,application and subsequent processing of porous materials. 展开更多

Given the adverse effects of current water shortages,low utilization and imbalance between the supply and demand,and other status quo problems relating to social economic development,the construction industry and agriculture,a cloud model was applied to a water resource system using five sustainable water resource utilization schemes for Kiamusze,Heilongjiang Province,as an example.This research changes the qualitative description of the concept language into a quantitative analysis of an evaluation indicator.A cloud model-based analytical method for regional sustainable water resource utilization schemes was proposed,and the sustainable grades of the water resources were calculated.The research results showed that,in addition to the natural continuation of such schemes,the development trends of four new schemes achieved the sustainable utilization of water resources,and thus,the sustainable water resource utilization was optimized.However,when the open-source,throttle,comprehensive and coordination schemes were subjected to the optimum applicability analysis,based on the limiting factors in different periods,resource availability and long-term development,decision-making regarding the best solution in different periods better ensures sustainable development in Kiamusze.The research results provide a significant theoretical basis for the formulation of scientific and reasonable sustainable water resource utilization strategies in Kiamusze. 展开更多

The Dujiangyan Project,located at the junction of the upstream of the Minjiang River and Chengdu Plain,Sichuan Province,China,is an irrigation system project as important as the Great Wall in the history of China.Without dam structures,this project has been continuously playing its crucial role in diverting water for irrigation,separating sediments,and controlling flood for 2275 years.In this study,the predicaments of the Dujiangyan Project under the background of rapid urbanization and social economic development were summarized by conducting the field research and using the Indicators of Hydrological alteration(IHA)method:excessive diversion of water,disruption of hydrological pulses,erosion and deposition imbalance and conflicts between power generation and water supply.These contradictions have led to the weakening of the function of automatic water diversion and sand removal in the Dujiangyan Project.Considering the influence of climate change and strong human activities,we pointed out the challenges faced by the millennium ancient weir in balancing human and environmental water usage and project operation and management based on the simulation results of the hydrological model.The corresponding suggestions about strengthening agricultural water saving,generating artificial flood peak were provided to protect and continue to maintain the function of the Dujiangyan Project. 展开更多

Situated in the hinterland of Eurasia,Central Asia is characterized by an arid climate and sparse rainfall.The uneven spatial distribution of water and land resources across the region has pressured economic and social development.An accurate understanding of Central Asia’s water resources carrying capacity(WRCC)is vital for enhancing the sustainability of water resources utilization and guiding regional economic and social activities.This study aims to facilitate the sustainability of water resources utilization by evaluating the region’s WRCC from the viewpoints of economic and technological conditions and social welfare.A concise yet effective model with relatively fewer parameters was established by adopting water resources data from the Food and Agriculture Organization(FAO)and socioeconomic data from the World Bank.The results indicated that the WRCC of all five Central Asian countries showed an increasing trend with improved water use efficiency from 1995 to 2020.Kazakhstan’s WRCC was significantly higher than the other four countries,reaching 54.03 million people in 2020.The water resources carrying index(WRCI)of the five Central Asian countries varied considerably,with the actual population sizes of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan highly overloaded.Although there has been a decrease in Central Asian countries’WRCI between 1995 and 2020,water resources utilization problems in the region remain prominent.Based on the water resources carrying capacity evaluation system,to increase available water resources and improve production water use efficiency are key to address these issues.In light of this,this study offers practical and feasible solutions at the policy level:(1)The implementation of signed multilateral agreements on transboundary water resources allocation must proceed through joint governmental efforts.(2)Investments in advancing science and technology need to be increased to improve water use efficiency in irrigation systems.(3)The output of water-intensive crops should be reduced.(4)The industrial structure could be further optimized so that non-agricultural uses are the primary drivers of gross domestic product(GDP)growth. 展开更多

Cultivated land plays a pivotal role in ensuring national food security,particularly in populous nations like China,where substantial investments are made to develop cultivated land as a counterbalance to construction-occupied areas.Consequently,long-term,effective monitoring of the utilization of newly cultivated land becomes imperative.This study introduces a comprehensive monitoring framework,designed for refined scales,that leverages remote sensing data.The framework focuses on the sustainable utilization of newly cultivated land,emphasizing utilization sustainability,productivity stability,and landscape integration.Its effectiveness was validated through a case study in Guangdong province,China.The results revealed satisfactory utilization sustainability and improved productivity stability of newly cultivated land in Guangdong,though landscape integration showed sub-optimal results.Furthermore,the comprehensive evaluation categorized the newly cultivated land into three levels and eight types.The study recommends enhancing the site selection process for newly cultivated land and improving the long-term monitoring,as well as incentive and constraint mechanisms,for their utilization.This study can provide a scientific reference to bolster the implementation of cultivated land protection policies,thereby contributing significantly to high-quality economic and social development. 展开更多
