As a result, the risk of a Web server being inundated with requests is ever-present. One approach to reducing the performance degradation that potentially comes from Web server overloading is to employ Web caching where data content is replicated in multiple locations. In this paper, we investigate the use of evolutionary algorithms to dynamically alter partition size in Web caches. We use established modeling techniques to compare the performance of our evolutionary algorithm to that found in statically-partitioned systems. Our results indicate that utilizing an evolutionary algorithm to dynamically alter partition sizes can lead to performance improvements especially in environments where the relative size of large to small pages is high.</span> </div>展开更多

Web Caching technology has been widely accepted as one of the effective approaches to alleviating Web traffic and increase the Web Quality of Service (QoS). This paper provides an up-to-date survey of the rapidly expanding Web Caching literature. It discusses the state-of-the-art web caching schemes and techniques, with emphasis on the recent developments in Web Caching technology such as the differentiated Web services, heterogeneous caching network structures, and dynamic content caching.展开更多

By constructing a communicating tree of grid sites based on network cost and using a single leader for each data segment within each region, the MDWC makes the most use of the Web cache of other sites whose bandwidth is as broad as covering the job executing site. The experiment result indicates that the MDWC reduces data response time and data update cost by avoiding network congestions while designing on the parameters concluded by the environment of application.展开更多

Due to the limited resources of the network bandwidth, users always suffer from long time waiting. Web prefetching and web caching are the primary approaches to reducing the user perceived access latency and improving the quality of services. In this paper, a Stochastic Petri Nets (SPN) based integrated web prefetching and caching model (IWPCM) is presented and the performance evaluation of IWPCM is made. The performance metrics, access latency, throughput, HR (hit ratio) and BHR (byte hit ratio) are analyzed and discussed. Simulations show that compared with caching only model (CM), IWPCM can further improve the throughput, HR and BHR efficiently and reduce the access latency. The performance evaluation based on the SPN model can provide a basis for implementation of web prefetching and caching and the combination of web prefetching and caching holds the promise of improving the QoS of web systems.展开更多
