A total of 60 isolates were characterized by microbiological techniques (30 Bacillus and 30 Lactobacillus) and the ability to produce biosurfactants was demonstrated by a hydrocarbon emulsification index (E24). The emulsification indexes (E24) varied from 9% to 100% for Bacillus and from 33% to 100% for Lactobacillus as well. The antagonistic assay showed that biosurfactants were able to inhibit the formation of biofilms and growth of pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Salmonella typhirium, Shigella boydii and Proteus mirabilis. The biosurfactant consortium (BioC) from Bacillus consortium and from Lactobacillus was able to inhibit biofilm formation and the pathogens growth. The BioC was stable to alkaline pH and the temperatures stability of Biosurfactant was ranging from 50°C to 90°C. The soap was made by the cold saponification process using one biosurfactant consortium formulated. This soap has a pH of 10 and showed good cleaning power and good foam stability. Similarly, the soap showed good antiseptic power and disinfection power against all pathogens tested. Handwashing is critical to preventing disease transmission. The persistence of pathogens in waste water was evaluated. The BioS produced showed good disinfection power against all pathogens tested. The valor of reduction on the hands and in the waste water was significantly more than compared to the control soaps used. This soap could be used in the prevention, fighting, and treatment of bacterial and viral infections.展开更多

This has a major impact on health and the economy. This pollution causes illness in humans and animals, even at low levels of exposure, leading to endocrine disorders, congenital malformations, cardiovascular disease, nervous system damage and cancer. They are a brake on redevelopment because of the threats they pose, generally causing an anaerobic environment by blocking the diffusion of air into the soil pores, thus affecting the microbial communities living there and preventing the infiltration of water necessary for plant growth. In an ecosystem subjected to various disturbances, changes can be observed in ecosystem structure and function, including loss of aesthetic values, changes in biomass or productivity, and changes in species composition. These include loss of aesthetic values, changes in biomass or productivity, and altered species composition, as a result of habitat loss, disruption of food webs and variations in macro- and micro-climatic environmental conditions. Respect for the environment is becoming a major concern in today’s society. To remedy this, the concept of biological control was used as an alternative, with the selection of microorganisms of bioremediator interest. Twenty (20) isolates, including 10 (50%) from the Pseudomonas genus and 10 (50%) from the Bacillus genus, were isolated from landfills, identified and tested to assess their biofertilization (phosphate solubilization) and depollution (hydrocarbon degradation) potential, and to inhibit the growth of certain microorganisms. The results showed that all Pseudomonas and Bacillus isolates solubilized inorganic phosphate, although this activity was higher in Bacillus. All Bacillus inhibited the growth of all the pathogens included in this study, while Pseudomonas only inhibited the growth of E. coli. With regard to their ability to degrade hydrocarbons, these bacteria all showed exponential growth kinetics in the presence of gasoline. These kinetics evolved as a function of the number of days. The results obtained from this work leave no doubt as to the capacity of microorganisms to be used on a large scale as soil biofertilizers to restore soil integrity and promote sustainable agriculture, but also as biodepollutants to purify ecosystems.展开更多

文摘Background Lactulose as an effective prebiotic protects intestinal mucosal injury.Bacillus coagulans is widely used in feed additives because of its ability to promote intestinal health. Our previous study suggests that the combination of lactulose and Bacillus coagulans may be a good candidate as alternative for antibiotic growth promoters. However, the in vivo effects of lactulose and Bacillus coagulans on growth and intestinal health under immune challenge in piglets remains unclear. The objective of this study is to explore the protective effects of synbiotic containing lactu-lose and Bacillus coagulans on the intestinal mucosal injury and barrier dysfunction under immune challenge in weaned piglets. Methods Twenty four weaned piglets were assigned to 4 groups.Piglets in the CON-_(saline)and LPS-_(LPS)group were fed the basal diet, while others were fed either with chlortetracycline(CTC)or synbiotic mixture of lactulose and Bacillus coagulans for 32 d before injection of saline or lipopolysaccharide(LPS).Piglets were sacrificed 4 h after LPS injection to collect samples to determine intestinal morphology, integrity and barrier functions as well as relative genes and proteins. Results Our data showed that no differences were observed in the growth performance of the four test groups.LPS injection induced higher serum diamine oxidase activities,D-lactic acid levels, and endotoxin status, lower villus height and ratio of villus height to crypt depth, greater mRNA and lower protein expression related tight junction in both jejunum and ileum. In addition,a higher apoptosis index, and protein expression of Bax and caspase-3 were also observed in the LPS challenge group.Interestingly, dietary synbiotic mixture with lactulose and Bacillus coagulans protected against LPS-induced intestinal damage, barrier dysfunction and higher apoptosis as well as CTC.Conclusions Our data suggest that dietary supplementation of synbiotic mixture with lactulose and Bacillus coagu-lans showed resilience to LPS-induced intestinal morphological damage, barrier dysfunction and aggressive apoptosis in piglets as well as the protective effects of CTC.These results indicate that synbiotic mixture of lactulose and Bacillus coagulans showed beneficial effects on performance and resilience to acute immune stress in weaned piglets.

文摘Background:This study aimed to investigate whether the combination of Macleaya cordata extract(MCE)and Bacil-lus could improve the laying performance and health of laying hens better. Methods:A total of 36029-week-old Jingbai laying hens were randomly divided into 4 treatments:control group(basal diet),MCE group(basal diet+MCE),Probiotics Bacillus Compound(PBC)group(basal diet+compound Bacil-lus),MCE+PBC group(basal diet+MCE+compound Bacillus). The feeding experiment lasted for 42 d.Results:The results showed that the laying rate and the average daily egg mass in the MCE+PBC group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05)and better than the MCE and PBC group.Combina-tion of MCE and Bacillus significantly increased the content of follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH)in the serum and up-regulated the expression of related hormone receptor gene(estrogen receptor-β,FSHR and luteinizing hormone/choriogonadotropin receptor)in the ovary of laying hens(P<0.05).In the MCE+PBC group, the mRNA expressions of zonula occluden-1,Occludin and mucin-2 in jejunum was increased and the intestinal epithelial barrier detected by transmission electron microscopy was enhanced compared with the control group(P<0.05).In addition, compared with the control group, combination of MCE and Bacillus significantly increased the total antioxidant capacity and catalase activity(P<0.05),and down-regulated the mRNA expressions of inflammation-related genes(interleukin-1βand tumor necrosis factor-α)as well as apoptosis-related genes(Caspase 3,Caspase 8 and P53)(P<0.05).The concen-tration of acetic acid and butyric acid in the cecum content of laying hens in the MCE+PBC group was significantly increased compared with the control group(P<0.05).Conclusions:Collectively,dietary supplementation of 600μg/kg MCE and 5×108 CFU/kg compound Bacillus can improve laying performance by improving microbiota to enhance antioxidant capacity and intestinal barrier, regulate reproductive hormones and the concentration of cecal short-chain fatty acids of laying hens, and the combined effect of MCE and Bacillus is better than that of single supplementation.

文摘Objective:Bacillus Calmette-Gue´rin(BCG)instillation is the standard adjuvant treatment for intermediate-and high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer after transurethral resection.Nevertheless, its toxicity often causes bladder complications. On follow-up cystoscopy,post-BCG bladder lesions can be pathologically benign, urothelial carcinoma recurrence,or other types of bladder malignancy.Only a small number of case reports have been published on post-BCG bladder lesions.Their clinical features, natural course, and management remain unknown. Methods:We retrospectively studied cystoscopic videos and medical records of BCG-treated bladder cancer patients at our center.During a long-term follow-up,we took biopsies on tumor-like lesions and described their changes. In addition,we summarized previous studies on post-BCG bladder lesions by systematic literature searching and review. Results:We described a series of three cases with post-BCG bladder lesions mimicking tumor recurrence from a total of 38 cases with follow-up data for more than 5 years. Those lesions could last, grow,or disappear spontaneously, and remain pathological benign for years. In systematic review,we identified and analyzed a total of 15 cases with post-BCG bladder lesions with detailed clinical information.Eleven of the 15 were benign and have a good prognosis with nephrogenic adenoma being the most common pathological type. Conclusion:Based on previous studies and our experience, benign lesions after BCG instillation cannot distinguish with cancer recurrence by cystoscopy alone, even under narrow band imaging mode.Nonetheless, given most of them have a good prognosis, random biopsy or transurethral resection might be spared in the patients with long-term negative biopsy and urine cytology.

文摘Although biofilm formation may promote growth, biofilms are not always beneficial to their hosts. The biofilm formation characteristics of Bacillus cereus WPySW2 and its changes at different temperatures were studied. Results show that B.cereus WPySW2 promoted the growth of Neoporphyra haitanensis(an economically cultivated seaweed)at 20℃ but accelerated algal rot at 28℃.Thicker B.cereus WPySW2 biofilms covered the surface of N.haitanensis thalli at 28℃,which hindered material exchange between the algae and surrounding environment, inhibited algal photosynthesis and respiration, and accelerated algal decay.Compared with planktonic bacteria, mature biofilm cells had lower energy consumption and metabolic levels. The biofilm metabolic characteristics of B.cereus WPySW2 changed significantly with temperature.High temperature accelerated biofilm maturation, which made it thicker and more stable, allowing the bacteria to easily adapt to environmental changes and obtain greater benefits from their host.High temperature did not affect the production or increased the abundance of toxic metabolites, indicating that the negative effects of B.cereus WPySW2 on algae were not caused by toxins. This study shows that increased temperature can transform a harmless bacterium into a detrimental one, demonstrating that temperature may change the ecological function of phycospheric bacteria by affecting their morphology and metabolism.

文摘The recovery of vanadium(V)from stone coal by bioleaching is a promising method. The bioleaching experiments and the biosorption experiments were carried out, aiming to explore the adsorption characteristics of Bacillus mucilaginosus(B.mucilaginosus)on the surface of vanadium-bearing stone coal, and the related mechanisms have been investigated. After bioleaching at 30℃ for 28 d,the cumulative leaching rate of V reached 60.2%.The biosorption of B.mucilaginosus on stone coal was affected by many factors. When the pH value of leaching system is 5.0,strong electrostatic attraction between bacteria and stone coal promoted biosorption.Bacteria in the logarithmic growth phase had mature and excellent biosorption properties. The initial bacterial concentration of 3.5×10^(8) CFU/mL was conducive to adhesion, with 38.9%adsorption rate and 3.6×10^(7) CFU/g adsorption quantity. The adsorption of B.mucilaginosus on the stone coal conformed to the Freundlich model and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model.Bacterial surface carried functional groups(-CH_(2),-CH_(3),-NH_(2),etc.),which were highly correlated with the adsorption behavior. In addition, biosorption changed the surface properties of stone coal, resulting in the isoelectric point(IEP)approaching the bacteria. The results could provide an effective reference for the adsorption laws of bacteria on minerals.
文摘The pollution of ecosystems as a result of urbanization, industrialization and poor agricultural practices is becoming increasingly alarming. The results obtained from this work leave no doubt as to the capacity of microorganisms to be used on a large scale as soil biofertilizers to restore soil integrity and promote sustainable agriculture, but also as biodepollutants to purify ecosystems.
