In low SSS regions, we have an...Two kinds of Bayesian-based cost functions (i.e., the unconstrained cost function and parameter-constrained cost function) are investigated for retrieving the sea surface salinity (SSS). In low SSS regions, we have analyzed the sensitivity of the two cost functions to geophysical parameters. The results show that the unconstrained cost function is valid for retrieving several parameters (including SSS, wind speed and significant wave height), and the constrained cost function, which largely depends on the accuracy of reference values, may lead to large retrieval biases. Furthermore, as a retrieval parameter, the sea surface temperature (SST) can re-sult in the divergence of other geophysical parameters in an unconstrained cost function due to the strong sensitivity of brightness temperature to SST. By using the unconstrained cost function and the simulated brightness temperature TB with white noises, the retrieval biases of SSS are discussed with the following two procedures. Procedure a): the simulated TB values are first averaged, and then SSS is retrieved. Procedure b): the SSS is directly retrieved from the simulated TB , and then the retrieved SSS values are aver-aged. The results indicate that, for low SSS and SST distributions, the SSS retrieval by procedure a) has less biases compared with that by procedure b), while the two procedures give almost the same retrieval results for high SSS and SST sea regions.展开更多

The proposed schedule optimization model consists of several single cost fi.mctions, which take rolling force, motor power, inter-stand tension and stand reduction into consideration. The cost function, which can evaluate how far the rolling parameters are from the ideal values, was minimized using the Nelder-Mead simplex method. The proposed rolling schedule optimization method has been applied successfully to the 5-stand tandem cold mill in Tangsteel, and the results from a case study show that the proposed method is superior to those based on empirical formulae.展开更多

The relay-enhanced network provides user equipment (UE) multiple handover choices from neighbor base stations or relays. This may result in different overhead, resource utility and traffic load which attaches importance to proper handover schemes. Compared with traditional handover measurement and decision schemes, the proposed scheme adopts reference signal receiving quality (RSRQ) in the measurement stage and uses a modified signal cost function considering signal overhead in different handover types and expected long-term throughput of UE. Besides, UE fairness and sector resource utilization are taken into account as well. Theory analysis and simulation results prove that the proposed scheme can enhance cell throughput, decrease handover delay and signal overhead, and improve UE fairness.展开更多

A single product cost function is normally considered inadequate and yield distorted results. Both quadratic and single product cost functions have been applied to university data from China's Ministry of Education (MOE). This study compares those two methods and their statistical results and finds that ray economies of scale from these two cost functions are quite similar though the single product cost function which can not be used to calculate product-specific economies of scale or economies of scope.展开更多

There exist se...SG (smart grids) is an intelligent power grid in which the diverse nodes should communicate different types of information which have different communication requirements with CS (control stations). There exist several RATs (radio access technologies), with diversification in quality of service character which respect to the SG nodes communication requirements. On the other side, spectrum is becoming a rare source and its demands request is increasing exponentially. Therefore, resource allocation to support different types of SG nodes should be elaborated so that the resource efficiency is maximized while the SG communication requirements are respected. Using a CF (cost function) based on the SG node requirements and RATs characteristics to find the desirability value of every RATs for a certain node type accomplish this goal in combination with prioritizing the different SG nodes types based on SG goals by creating a priority table for RATs and different SG node types. The main node communication requirements are formulized to be used in the CF in this paper. The numerical results show that the proposed method defines the desirability value of each RAT for a certain SG node type that helps to make a priority table by using the SG node prioritization table.展开更多

The simulation of a control system for the longitudinal axis of the rotary or fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)is demonstrated in this study.The control unit includes design considerations of two controllers t...The simulation of a control system for the longitudinal axis of the rotary or fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)is demonstrated in this study.The control unit includes design considerations of two controllers to provide robust stability,tracking of the proposed linear dynamics,an adequate set of proportional-integral-derivative(PID)controller gains,and a minimal cost function.The PID control and linear quadratic regulator(LQR)with or without full-state-observer were evaluated.An optimal control system is assumed to provide fast rise and settling time,minimize overshoot,and eliminate the steady-state error.The effectiveness of this approach was verified by a linear model of the UAV aircraft in the semi-dynamic simulation platform of Matlab/Simulink,in which the open-loop system was assessed in terms of flight robustness and reference tracking.The experimental results show that the proposed controllers effectively improve the configuration of the control system of the plant,maintain the sustainability of the dynamic flight model stability,and diminish the flight controller errors.The LQR provides robust stability,but it is not optimal in the transient phase of particular plant output.The PID control system can adjust the controller’s gains for optimal hovering(or stable slow flight)and is especially useful for the tracking system.Finally,comparing aircraft stability using PID and LQR controllers shows that the latter has less overshoot and a shorter settling time;in addition,all proposed controllers can be practically deployed as one UAV’s system,which can be handled as an exemplary model of the UAV flight management system.展开更多

It uses the available information about mobile node(MN) such as user mobility patterns and MN's velocity to reduce handoff latency. In the proposed scheme, the movement pattern of users plays an important role in the performance analysis. The proposed scheme develops LBS that records a number of mobility patterns based on user daily behavior, and exploits these information to reduce the handoff latency. The proposed scheme is analyzed and compared with F-HMIPv6 protocol. The results show that it improves the performance in terms of handoff latency, packet delivery cost, and location update cost. Specifically, the proposed scheme achieves the tradeoff between realizing a smooth handoff and minimizing the cost that is the demand for all customers of mobile services.展开更多

The study uses household level data collected in summe...The study measures productive efficiency of tomato growers in village Akbarpura of Disctrict Nowshera in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province of Northern Pakistan. The study uses household level data collected in summer 2010 from sample farmers selected by multi-staged sampling. The study uses a theoretical framework to measure productive efficiency and estimates the Cobb-Douglas frontier production and cost models. The study found that technical efficiency indices varied significantly, with technical efficiency index averaging at 65%. The indices of allocative efficiency also varied widely, with an average of 56%. There was a wide gap between the highest and lowest economic efficiency indices, with a mean economic efficiency of 35%. The study concluded that farmer education, extension visits, age and access to credit contributed significantly and positively to productive efficiencies. A policy implication of this study is that there is enough potential for farmers to increase tomato production and net profits. The study recommends that the government should further invest in public education and strengthen extension services farmer education and because extension visits constituted important determinants of productive efficiencies.展开更多
To overcome the influence of on-orbit extreme temperature environment on the tool pose(position and orientation) accuracy of a space robot,a new self-calibration method based on a measurement camera(hand-eye vision) a...To overcome the influence of on-orbit extreme temperature environment on the tool pose(position and orientation) accuracy of a space robot,a new self-calibration method based on a measurement camera(hand-eye vision) attached to its end-effector was presented.Using the relative pose errors between the two adjacent calibration positions of the space robot,the cost function of the calibration was built,which was different from the conventional calibration method.The particle swarm optimization algorithm(PSO) was used to optimize the function to realize the geometrical parameter identification of the space robot.The above calibration method was carried out through self-calibration simulation of a six-DOF space robot whose end-effector was equipped with hand-eye vision.The results showed that after calibration there was a significant improvement of tool pose accuracy in a set of independent reference positions,which verified the feasibility of the method.At the same time,because it was unnecessary for this method to know the transformation matrix from the robot base to the calibration plate,it reduced the complexity of calibration model and shortened the error propagation chain,which benefited to improve the calibration accuracy.展开更多

The algorithm first gives the RCS ch...To utilizing the characteristic of radar cross section (RCS) of the low detectable aircraft, a special path planning algorithm to eluding radars by the variable RCS is presented. The algorithm first gives the RCS changing model of low detectable aircraft, then establishes a threat model of a ground-based air defense system according to the relations between RCS and the radar range coverage. By the new cost functions of the flight path, which consider both factors of the survival probability and the distance of total route, this path planning method is simulated based on the Dijkstra algorithm, and the planned route meets the flight capacity constraints. Simulation results show that using the effective path planning algorithm, the low detectable aircraft can give full play to its own advantage of stealth to achieve the purpose of silent penetration.展开更多
The future network world will be embedded with different generations of wireless technologies,such as 3G,4G and 5G.At the same time,the development of new devices equipped with multiple interfaces is growing rapidly i...The future network world will be embedded with different generations of wireless technologies,such as 3G,4G and 5G.At the same time,the development of new devices equipped with multiple interfaces is growing rapidly in recent years.As a consequence,the vertical handover protocol is developed in order to provide ubiquitous connectivity in the heterogeneous wireless environment.Indeed,by using this protocol,the users have opportunities to be connected to the Internet through a variety of wireless technologies at any time and anywhere.The main challenge of this protocol is how to select the best access network in terms of Quality of Service(QoS)for users.For that,many algorithms have been proposed and developed to deal with the issue in recent studies.However,all existing algorithms permit only the selection of one access network from the available networks during the vertical handover process.To cope with this problem,in this paper we propose a new approach based on k-partite graph.Firstly,we introduce k-partite graph theory to model the vertical handover problem.Secondly,the selection of the best path is performed by a robust and lightweight mechanism based on cost function and Dijkstra’s algorithm.The experimental results show that the proposed approach can achieve better performance of QoS than the existing algorithms for FTP traffic and video streaming.展开更多
Based on anisotropic total variation regularization(ATVR), a nonnegativity and support constraints recursive inverse filtering(NAS-RIF) blind restoration method is proposed to enhance the quality of optical coherence ...Based on anisotropic total variation regularization(ATVR), a nonnegativity and support constraints recursive inverse filtering(NAS-RIF) blind restoration method is proposed to enhance the quality of optical coherence tomography(OCT) image. First, ATVR is introduced into the cost function of NAS-RIF to improve the noise robustness and retain the details in the image.Since the split Bregman iterative is used to optimize the ATVR based cost function, the ATVR based NAS-RIF blind restoration method is then constructed. Furthermore, combined with the geometric nonlinear diffusion filter and the Poisson-distribution-based minimum error thresholding, the ATVR based NAS-RIF blind restoration method is used to realize the blind OCT image restoration. The experimental results demonstrate that the ATVR based NAS-RIF blind restoration method can successfully retain the details in the OCT images. In addition, the signal-to-noise ratio of the blind restored OCT images can be improved, along with the noise robustness.展开更多

文摘To overcome the influence of on-orbit extreme temperature environment on the tool pose(position and orientation) accuracy of a space robot,a new self-calibration method based on a measurement camera(hand-eye vision) attached to its end-effector was presented.Using the relative pose errors between the two adjacent calibration positions of the space robot,the cost function of the calibration was built,which was different from the conventional calibration method.The particle swarm optimization algorithm(PSO) was used to optimize the function to realize the geometrical parameter identification of the space robot.The above calibration method was carried out through self-calibration simulation of a six-DOF space robot whose end-effector was equipped with hand-eye vision.The results showed that after calibration there was a significant improvement of tool pose accuracy in a set of independent reference positions,which verified the feasibility of the method.At the same time,because it was unnecessary for this method to know the transformation matrix from the robot base to the calibration plate,it reduced the complexity of calibration model and shortened the error propagation chain,which benefited to improve the calibration accuracy.
文摘In this work, we introduce a method of fingerprint directional image partitioning based on GA. According to the fingerprint topology, A set of dynamic partition masks and a cost estimating function are designed to guide the partitioning procedure. Finding best fitted mask application is converted to an functional optimizing problem, and we give out a GA solution to the problem. At last, we discuss the application of the proposed method in Fingerprint Classification.
文摘This paper aims at a review of the work carried out to date on the adjoint assimilation of data in marine ecosys-tem models since 1995. The structure and feature of the adjoint assimilation in marine ecosystem models are also introduced. To illustrate the application of the adjoint technique and its merits, a 4-variable ecosystem model coupled with a 3-D physical model is established for the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea. The chlorophyll concentration data derived from the SeaWiFS o-cean colour data are assimilated in the model with the technique. Some results are briefly presented.
文摘To utilizing the characteristic of radar cross section (RCS) of the low detectable aircraft, a special path planning algorithm to eluding radars by the variable RCS is presented. The algorithm first gives the RCS changing model of low detectable aircraft, then establishes a threat model of a ground-based air defense system according to the relations between RCS and the radar range coverage. By the new cost functions of the flight path, which consider both factors of the survival probability and the distance of total route, this path planning method is simulated based on the Dijkstra algorithm, and the planned route meets the flight capacity constraints. Simulation results show that using the effective path planning algorithm, the low detectable aircraft can give full play to its own advantage of stealth to achieve the purpose of silent penetration.
文摘The future network world will be embedded with different generations of wireless technologies,such as 3G,4G and 5G.At the same time,the development of new devices equipped with multiple interfaces is growing rapidly in recent years.As a consequence,the vertical handover protocol is developed in order to provide ubiquitous connectivity in the heterogeneous wireless environment.Indeed,by using this protocol,the users have opportunities to be connected to the Internet through a variety of wireless technologies at any time and anywhere.The main challenge of this protocol is how to select the best access network in terms of Quality of Service(QoS)for users.For that,many algorithms have been proposed and developed to deal with the issue in recent studies.However,all existing algorithms permit only the selection of one access network from the available networks during the vertical handover process.To cope with this problem,in this paper we propose a new approach based on k-partite graph.Firstly,we introduce k-partite graph theory to model the vertical handover problem.Secondly,the selection of the best path is performed by a robust and lightweight mechanism based on cost function and Dijkstra’s algorithm.The experimental results show that the proposed approach can achieve better performance of QoS than the existing algorithms for FTP traffic and video streaming.

文摘Based on anisotropic total variation regularization(ATVR), a nonnegativity and support constraints recursive inverse filtering(NAS-RIF) blind restoration method is proposed to enhance the quality of optical coherence tomography(OCT) image. First, ATVR is introduced into the cost function of NAS-RIF to improve the noise robustness and retain the details in the image.Since the split Bregman iterative is used to optimize the ATVR based cost function, the ATVR based NAS-RIF blind restoration method is then constructed. Furthermore, combined with the geometric nonlinear diffusion filter and the Poisson-distribution-based minimum error thresholding, the ATVR based NAS-RIF blind restoration method is used to realize the blind OCT image restoration. The experimental results demonstrate that the ATVR based NAS-RIF blind restoration method can successfully retain the details in the OCT images. In addition, the signal-to-noise ratio of the blind restored OCT images can be improved, along with the noise robustness.
