AIM:To evaluate effects of endogenous dopamine induced by low concentration atropine eye drops on choroidal neovascularization(CNV)in high myopia mice.METHODS:The C57BL/6J mice were deprived of the right eye for 4wk,and the high myopia was diagnosed by optometry,the diopter was less than-6.00 D,and CNV was induced by 532 nm laser.The changes of dopamine D1 receptor(DRD1),dopamine D2 receptor(DRD2),and vascular endothelial growth factor A(VEGFA)were detected by Western blot technology at 0.5,1,2h,and 7d after 0.01%,0.05%,and 0.1%atropine eye drops,respectively,the area of CNV was measured.RESULTS:Significant increases were observed on the expression of DRD2 in mouse high myopia model at 0.5,1,2h,7d with 0.05%and 0.1%atropine eye drops(P<0.05).Significant decreases were observed on the expression of DRD1 and VEGFA in mouse high myopia model at 0.5,1,2h,7d with 0.05%and 0.1%atropine eye drops(P<0.05).The area of CNV induced by laser in the drug-treated group was significantly smaller than that in the control group,and the higher the concentration,the more significant the inhibitory effect(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:The 0.01%,0.05%,0.1%atropine eye drops can decrease the level of VEGFA and inhibit high myopia CNV indirectly by up-regulating the level of DRD2 and down-regulating the level of DRD1,and the effect of 0.05%and 0.1%atropine eye drops is more significant. 展开更多

Randomized controlled trial on the efficacy and safety of autologous serum eye drops in dry eye syndrome

BACKGROUND Autologous serum eye drops(ASEDs),a novel treatment derived from blood serum,have emerged as a groundbreaking solution for managing dry eye syndrome(DES).These drops have shown significant promise in relieving the distressing symptoms of DES.This study aimed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of ASEDs compared to traditional treatments,which often prove inadequate or result in unwanted side effects,particularly in individuals with moderate-to-severe DES.AIM To evaluate whether ASEDs are safer and more effective than conventional artificial tears in the treatment of moderate-to-severe DES.METHODS This multi-centered randomized controlled trial included 240 patients with moderate-to-severe DES from three ophthalmology clinics in China.They were randomly assigned to receive either ASEDs or artificial tears for 12 wk.The primary outcome was the change in the ocular surface disease index(OSDI)score,with secondary outcomes including tear break-up time(TBUT),Schirmer I test,corneal fluorescein staining(CFS),and conjunctival impression cytology(CIC).Statistics analysis was performed using an analysis of covariance with adjustments made for baseline values.RESULTS Our findings revealed that both ASEDs and artificial tears significantly improved the OSDI score,TBUT,Schirmer I test,CFS,and CIC from baseline to week 12.The ASEDs group showed significantly greater improvement in all these measures than the artificial tears group(all P values<0.05).The average difference in the OSDI score between the two cohorts was-10.3(95%confidence interval:-13.6 to-7.0),indicating a substantial improvement in the ASEDs group.The occurrence of adverse events was comparable between cohorts,with no reports of severe adverse events.CONCLUSION ASEDs are more effective and safer than artificial tears for mitigating symptoms of moderate-to-severe DES.ASEDs could be an alternative/supplementary therapy for patients with DES less responsive to traditional treatments. 展开更多

AIM: To evaluate the effects of atropine 0.01% on slowing myopia progression. METHODS: We searched for relevant studies in the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, Ovid, CBM, CNKI, VIP and Wan Fang Data in Chinese. A supplementary search was conducted in OpenGrey(System for Information on Grey Literature in Europe), the ISRCTN registry, Clinical Trials.gov, and the WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform(ICTRP) from the dates of inception to June 30, 2018. RESULTS: Seven randomized controlled trials(RCTs) with a total of 1079 subjects were included(505 in the atropine 0.01% group and 574 in the control group). The results showed that the atropine 0.01% group exhibited significantly greater control of axial growth than the control group (MD=-0.12, 95%CI(-0.19,-0.06))There was also a statistically significant difference between the atropine 0.01% and control groups in the changes in axial length [MD=-0.14, 95%CI(-0.25,-0.03)], but the quality of evidence was low. There were no significant differences between the atropine 0.01% and control groups in the overall effect with respect to diopter value, change in diopter, distance vision and intraocular pressure (MD=0.08, 95%CI(-0.27, 0.42);MD=0.09, 95%CI(-0.17, 0.36);MD=-0.01, 95%CI(-0.02, 0.00);MD=0.08, 95%CI(-0.56,0.40))The sensitivity analysis showed that the conclusion of the Meta-analysis is relatively stable. With respect to adverse events, there were significant differences between the atropine 0.01% and control groups (OR=0.26, 95%CI(0.11, 0.61))CONCLUSION: Based on the available evidence, atropine 0.01% eye drops offer benefits in controlling axial growth and safety without causing significant differences in diopter values, distance vision and intraocular pressure. 展开更多

As a case study of spatial and temporal variations in earthquake stress drops between the 2008 Ms 8.0 Wenchuan and 2013 Ms 7.0 Lushan earthquakes,we computed 1828 stress-drop values for earthquakes with magnitudes 1.7≤ML≤5.0 during an eight-year time span before and after major earthquakes.We divide the study area into three subregions(the southern segment of the Longmen Shan fault zone;the southwestern junction of the Longmen Shan and Sichuan Basin;and the southwestern margin of the Sichuan Basin)and calculate individual event stress drops in each.The results show that regions of alternating high and low stress drop are found on either side of the southwestern segment of the Longmen Shan fault zone.During the two-year period after the 2008 Ms 8.0 Wenchuan earthquake,the stress state of the southern Longmen Shan fault shows no significant change.A marked increase in stress level appears about 18 months before the 2013 Ms 7.0 Lushan earthquake near the Lushan hypocenter zone.Two months after the Ms 7.0 event,the stress drops suddenly attenuate,with significantly less seismic energy release per event.We find that changes in the patterns of high and low stress drop values are consistent with the process of stress accumulation or transfer from the pre-mainshock to postmainshock periods.The results indicate that major earthquakes are the dominant cause of temporal and spatial evolution in stress levels.Stress drop variations show obvious temporal and spatial patterns that may suggests subtle changes in the character of stress fields on faults and spatial variations related to local intense compression and tectonic effects. 展开更多

By virtue of alternating direction method of multipliers(ADMM), Newton-Raphson method, ratio consensus approach and running sum method, two distributed iterative strategies are presented in this paper to address the economic dispatch problem(EDP) in power systems. Different from most of the existing distributed ED approaches which neglect the effects of packet drops or/and time delays, this paper takes into account both packet drops and time delays which frequently occur in communication networks. Moreover, directed and possibly unbalanced graphs are considered in our algorithms, over which many distributed approaches fail to converge. Furthermore, the proposed schemes can address the EDP with local constraints of generators and nonquadratic convex cost functions, not just quadratic ones required in some existing ED approaches. Both theoretical analyses and simulation studies are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed schemes. 展开更多

·AIM:To assess the effect of 0.01%atropine eye drops on intraocular pressure(IOP)in myopic children.·METHODS:A placebo-controlled,double-masked,randomized study.Totally 220 children aged 6 to 12 y with myopi... ·AIM:To assess the effect of 0.01%atropine eye drops on intraocular pressure(IOP)in myopic children.·METHODS:A placebo-controlled,double-masked,randomized study.Totally 220 children aged 6 to 12 y with myopia ranging from-1.00 to-6.00 D in both eyes were enrolled.Children were randomized in a 1:1 ratio to either 0.01%atropine eye drops or a placebo group using generated random numbers.All participants underwent the examination of IOP and cycloplegic refraction at baseline,6 and 12 mo.The change of IOP and the proportion of subjects with increased IOP in atropine and placebo groups were compared.·RESULTS:Of 220 children,117 were boys(53.2%).A total of 159(72.3%)participants completed the follow-up at the 1-year study.At baseline,the mean IOP was 15.74 mm Hg(95%CI,15.13 to 16.34 mm Hg)for the 0.01%atropine group and 15.59 mm Hg(95%CI,15.00 to 16.19 mm Hg)for placebo group(mean difference,0.14 mm Hg;P=0.743)after adjusting for central corneal thickness at baseline.At one year follow-up,the mean change of IOP was 0.16 mm Hg(95%CI,-0.43 to 0.76 mm Hg)for the 0.01%atropine group and-0.11 mm Hg(95%CI,-0.71 to 0.50 mm Hg)for placebo group(mean difference,0.27 mm Hg;P=0.525)after adjusting for central corneal thickness.The 51.4%of children have increased IOP in the 0.01%atropine group,compared with 45.9%in the placebo group(P=0.511).·CONCLUSION:The 0.01%atropine eye drops do not significantly affect the risk of elevated IOP.It is relatively safer to use in the studies that try to minimize myopia progression.However,a further long-duration study is required to be validated. 展开更多

Objective:To explore the safety and efficacy of eye drops without benzalkonium chloride(BAK)in treating glaucoma and ocular hypertension.Methods:The clinical case-control literatures about eye drops without BAK treating glaucoma and ocular hypertension were retrieved in PubMed,EMBASE,Cochrane and Chinese Biological and Medical database.Mela 5.0 software was used to analyze the literatures.Results:Five clinical control studies were included.The results indicated both eye drops could lower the intraocular pressure,and the intraocular pressurelowering difference between two eye drops was 0.07 mmHg(95%CI:0.04,0.19)(P>0.05).Two adverse reactions occurred more were conjunctival injection(10.78%)and allergic conjunctivitis(4.78%).The odd ratio of two eye drops occurring conjunctival injection and allergic conjunctivitis was 0.67(95%CI,0.25,1.10)and 0.82(95%CI,0.09,1.54),respectively(P<0.05)in fixed effect model.Conclusions:There is no difference between the eye drops with or without BAK in lowering intraocular pressure.but the latter is of higher safety.In consideration of the relatively small sample size of this research,more high-quality clinical research contrasts are needed as evidence. 展开更多

Effects of WH-1 and WH-2 eye drops on experimental allergic uveitis(FAU)in rabbits induced by bovine serum albumin were clinically and pathologically observed in comparisonwith local drops of dexamethasone used as positive control.The results showed that WH-2 obvi-ously inhibited the inflammatory reactions while WH-1 did not.Protein concenwation in the aqueoushumor of WH-2-treated group of rabbits was 9.24±2.34mg/ml,which was notably lower(P【0.01)than both that of the untreated(14.33±3.14 mg/ml)and of the WH-1-treated(12.91±3.95mg/ml),but signifificantly higher than that of the dexame dexamethasone-treated goup(4.43±1.43mg/ml,P【0.01).The alleviation of the intraocular inflammatory reaction by therapy of WH-2eye drops was confimed pathologically.This study indicates that WH-2 has a positiveantiphlogistic effect on EAU in rabbits. 展开更多

[Objectives] This study was conducted to establish a method for microbial limit test of Compound Yu E Nose Drops.[Methods] According to the Chinese Pharmacopoei (General Rules in the fourth part of the 2015 edition),the microbial limit test method for Compound Yu E Nose Drops was verified.[Results] Compound Yu E Nose Drops has a strong inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis,and the inhibitory activity was significantly eliminated after increasing the diluent (1∶ 20).The recoveries were all in the range of 0.5-2.0 when the total quantities of aerobic microbes were determined by the dilution method (1∶ 20).When the total quantities of mould and yeast were determined by the conventional method,the recoveries were both in the range of 0.5-2.0.When examining control bacteria,Escherichia coli,S.aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa can all be detected in the test groups by the test liquid dilution method.[Conclusions] For Compound Yu E Nose Drops,the total quantities of aerobic microbe can be counted by the dilution method;the quantities of mould and yeast can be examined by the conventional plate method;and the conventional method can be used for control microbe examination. 展开更多

The Causes of Distress in Paediatric Outpatients Receiving Dilating Drops

These cause discomfort and distress, which may impede subsequent examination. We aimed to determine the distress caused by cyclopentolate drops, and other factors in the clinic environment. Methods: Over an 8 week period, questionnaires were issued to guardians of all paediatric outpatients aged under 10 years receiving cyclopentolate. The childrens’distress was graded on a scale of 1 - 10 (1 = no distress, 10 = severe distress). Waiting time and ease of examination were recorded. Data was analysed using Stata statistics, and significant differences were reported at the P < 0.05 level. Results: The 72 children were grouped as under 4 years (n = 43, Group A), aged 4 - 7 years (n = 19, Group B), and aged 7-10 years (n = 10, Group C). Median distress levels at home (baseline), on arrival, on dilation, and on examination were as follows: Group A;1, 2, 7, 6 respectively;Group B;1, 1, 6, 2 and Group C;1, 1, 4.5, 1. All age groups were significantly more distressed on examination compared to baseline. Distress scores on examination were significantly greater for Group A, in keeping with the greatest number of suboptimal examinations. Guardians reported that a prolonged waiting time and bright examination lights also contributed to distress. Conclusions: This study confirms that cyclopentolate causes significant distress in young children, and in 45% of very young children, the examination is difficult. Proxymetacaine prior to cyclopentolate is a possible solution, but other distressing factors should also be addressed for optimal outcomes. 展开更多

Objective:To investigate the effects of sublingual dust mite drops on Pulmonary function, immunoglobulin and T lymphocyte subsets in patients with allergic rhinitis.Methods:One hundred and ten patients with allergic rhinitis treated in our hospital from June 2014 to December 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. According to the treatment methods, the patients were divided into control group and observation group, with 53 cases in control group and 57 cases in observation group. The patients were given oral kastitium and risperidone nasal spray. The observation group was given sublingual dust mite droplet on the basis of the control group. Afterwards, the Pulmonary function, immunoglobulin and T lymphocyte subsets Group level testing.Results: After treatment, the levels of FEV1, FVC and PEF increased significantly in the two groups. After treatment, the levels of FEV1, FVC and PEF in the observation group were (2.97±0.09) L, (3.96±0.07) L and (6.61±0.03) L/S, were significantly higher than the control group;After treatment, the levels of sIgE and T-IgE in both groups were significantly decreased, sIgG4 levels were significantly increased,After treatment, the levels of sIgE and T-IgE in the observation group were (12.22±1.08) kUA/L and (155.32 ± 9.51) kUA/L, respectively, which were significantly lower than those in the control group,The level of sIgG4 was (434.17±12.31) mg/L, which was significantly higher than that of the control group;After treatment, the levels of CD3+, CD4+ and CD4+/CD8+ in both groups were significantly higher than those before treatment, and the levels of CD8+ in the two groups were significantly lower than those before treatment. The levels of CD3+, CD4+ and CD4+/CD8 in the two groups were (65.90±2.11)%, (39.18±0.33)% and (1.75±0.07), respectively, were significantly higher than that of the control group after treatment, the level of CD8+ was (24.13±0.77)%, which was significantly lower than that of the control group Significance.Conclusion: Sublingual dust mite drops can effectively improve pulmonary ventilation in patients with allergic rhinitis, regulate patient immune function, a significant effect, worthy of further clinical application. 展开更多

Objective: To investigate the effects of dermatophagoides farinae drops combined with pidotimod on inflammatory response and immune response in children with allergic rhinitis combined with asthma. Methods: A total of 118 children with allergic rhinitis combined with asthma who were treated in our hospital between December 2014 and May 2017 were selected as the research subjects and divided into the control group (n=59) and the dermatophagoides farinae drops group (n=59) by random number table method. Control group received both conventional therapy and pidotimod therapy, and dermatophagoides farinae drops group received both conventional therapy and dermatophagoides farinae drops combined with pidotimod therapy. The differences in inflammatory factor, cellular immunity index and humoral immunity index levels were compared between the two groups before treatment (T0), after 3 months of treatment (T1), after 6 months of treatment (T2) and after 12 months of treatment (T3). Results: At T0, inflammatory factor, cellular immunity index and humoral immunity index levels were not significantly different between the two groups. At T1, T2 and T3, serum inflammatory factor IL-2 contents of dermatophagoides farinae drops group were higher than those of control group at the corresponding time points whereas IL-4, IL-5, IL-9 and IL-18 contents were lower than those of control group at the corresponding time points;peripheral blood cellular immunity indexes CD3+, CD4+, CD8+ and CD4+/CD8+levels were higher than those of control group at the corresponding time points;serum humoral immunity indexes IgA, IgM and IgG contents were higher than those of control group at the corresponding time points whereas IgE contents were lower than those of control group at the corresponding time points. Conclusion: Dermatophagoides farinae drops combined with pidotimod therapy can effectively reduce the inflammatory response degree and optimize the cellular and humoral immune function of the children with allergic rhinitis combined with asthma. 展开更多

Background:To investigate the effect of sirolimus(SRL)eye drops on acute alkali-burn-induced corneal neovascularization(CNV)and explore its possible mechanism.Methods:A total of 57 male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 160-180 g were randomly divided into four groups including a normal control group(NC group,n=12),an untreated alkali-burned model control group(MC group,n=15),a blank eye drop treatment group(BT group,n=15),and an SRL eye drop treatment group(ST group,n=15).Corneal inflammation and CNV were observed and scored under a slit-lamp microscope 3,7,and 14 days after alkali exposure.Three rats were randomly sacrificed in each group before modeling and 3,7,14 days after modeling,and the corneas of right eyes were harvested for Western blotting to compare the expression levels of VEGFR2 and caspase-3.Results:Corneal inflammation scoring showed that the corneal edema and conjunctival congestion were severe in the MC,BT,and ST groups 1 day after alkali exposure but were alleviated at day 3.The corneal transparency was significantly higher in the ST group than in the MC and BT groups at days 7(F=9.77,P<0.05)and 14(F=5.81,P<0.05).At day 1,the corneal limbal vascular network was markedly filled.SNV was obvious at days 3,7,and 14.The new blood vessels were shorter and sparser in the ST group than in the MC and BT groups,and the CNV scores showed significant differences among these groups(day 3:F=8.60,P<0.05;day 7:F=11.40,P<0.05;and day 14:F=41.59,P<0.01).Western blotting showed that the expressions of VEGFR2 and caspase-3 were low before modeling and showed no significant difference among the different groups(F=0.52,P>0.05;F=0.98,P>0.05).The corneal expression of VEGFR2 became significantly higher in the MC and BT groups than in the ST group 3,7,and 14 days after alkali exposure,and there were significant differences in relative gray-scale values among these groups(day 3:F=32.16,P<0.01;day 7:F=85.96,P<0.01;day 14:F=57.68,P<0.01).The increase in the corneal expression of caspase-3 was significantly larger in the ST group than in the MC and BT groups at days 3,7,and 14,and there were significant differences in relative gray-scale values among groups(day 3:F=32.16,P<0.01;day 7:F=53.02,P<0.01;day 14:F=38.67,P<0.01).Conclusions:SRL eye drops can alleviate acute alkali-burn-induced corneal inflammation and inhibit alkali-burn-induced CNV in rat models.It can reduce VEGFR2 expression and increase caspase-3 expression in the corneal tissue,which may contribute to the inhibition of alkali-burn-induced CNV. 展开更多

The levels of serum immunoglobulin, histamine (HA) and eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) were analyzed. Methods: A total of 90 AC patients were randomly divided into control group (n=45) and observation group (n=45) according to the lottery method. The control group was treated with olopatadine hydrochloride eye drops. On the basis of the control group, the observation group was treated with pranoprofen eye drops. The levels of serum immunoglobulin, HA and ECP were measured in all subjects. Results: There was no significant difference in serum immunoglobulin level between the observation group and the control group before treatment. After treatment, the levels of serum IgG, IgA and IgE in the observation group and the control group were significantly lower than those before treatment. And the observation group was significantly lower than the control group after treatment. There were no significant differences in serum HA and ECP levels between the observation group and the control group before treatment. After treatment, the levels of serum HA and ECP in the observation group and the control group were significantly lower than those before treatment. And the observation group was significantly lower than the control group after treatment. Conclusion: Compared with olopatadine eye drops, olopatadine eye drops combined with pranoprofen eye drops in the treatment of AC patients, can effectively reduce the serum immunoglobulin, HA and ECP levels, which may be the clinical treatment of AC patients Of the effective reference program. 展开更多

Objective:To study the ventilation function after sublingual dermatophagoides farinae drops combined with loratadine treatment of children with asthma and allergic rhinitis and the influence on serum biochemical indexes.Methods: A total of 40 children with asthma and allergic rhinitis treated in our hospital between September 2013 and March 2015 were collected and divided into the control group (n=22) who accepted loratadine therapy alone and the observation group (n=18) who accepted sublingual dermatophagoides farinae drops combined with loratadine therapy after the treatment was reviewed. Before treatment and after 6 months and 1 year of treatment, spirometer was used to test ventilation function indexes;ELISA method was used to determine the contents of inflammatory mediators;RIA method was used to determine the contents of airway remodeling indicators.Results:Before treatment, differences in ventilation function index levels as well as inflammatory mediator and airway remodeling index contents were not statistically significant between two groups of children. After 6 months and 1 year of treatment, FEV1, FVC and PEF levels of observation group were higher than those of control group;serum IL-2 content was higher than that of control group while IL-5, IL-17 and IL-33 contents were lower than those of control group;serum PDGF-BB, TGF-β1 and NF-κB contents were lower than those of control group.Conclusion:Sublingual dermatophagoides farinae drops combined with loratadine therapy can optimize the ventilation function, reduce the systemic inflammatory response and inhibit airway remodeling in children with asthma and allergic rhinitis. 展开更多

Objective:To analyze and evaluate the clinical efficacy of targeted navel drops in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.Methods:The time span of the study was from September 2020 to April 2021,and 288 diabetic patients were selected from our hospital.The patients were divided into research group(n=96)group,control group 1(n=96)and control group 2(n=96)by random number table.Control group 1 was managed with diet and exercise alone,control group 2 was treated with metformin on the basis of control group 1,and based on the treatment plan of the two control groups,the research group was treated with targeted navel drops.The relevant indexes of the three groups were compared and analyzed.Results:There was no significant difference in the fasting blood glucose and 2-hour postprandial blood glucose among the three groups(p>0.05)before the treatment.After treatment,the fasting blood glucose and 2-hour postprandial blood glucose of the research group were significantly lower than those of control group 1 and control group 2(p<0.05).The total effective rate of the research group was 95.8%,that of control group 1 was 85.4%,and that of control group 2 was 79.2%.The total effective rate of the research group was significantly higher than that of control group 1 and control group 2(p<0.05).Conclusion:There is a significant effect of targeted navel drops on diabetic patients in reducing their blood sugar levels,and its curative effect is better than using a single hypoglycemic therapy belonging to western medicine.It can be widely promoted at all levels in medical institutions. 展开更多
