The Aerobic Threshold (AerT), is an aged cardiovascular parameter not commonly used to evaluate the heart’s performance in athletes. It indirectly evaluated by ventilator parameters during Cardio Pulmonary Test (CPT). Considering that” exercise as prescription therapy “for the diseases, includes training normally established around at the 40% of the peak VO2, this parameter could be taken in care as initial level for the effort prescribed. The aim of the study was to estimate the behavior of the AerT and also Anaerobic Threshold (AT), VO2max in sedentary people. A group of athletes coming from different sports at the same and highest dynamic component were enrolled as control. A group of 41 athletes (16 soccer, 10 basket and 15 cyclists) and 9 healthy subjects were submitted to a CPT. The AerT, AT (assessed by Vslope method) and VO2max were evaluated. The statistical analysis was performed with T student test (P < 0.05 significant). As expected in sedentary all the values were lower than athletes, however for Aer T value appears to be not significantly inferior respect of this one, with the exclusion of the comparison with the cyclists. In sedentary the AerT measure seems to give additional information in evaluating the cardiovascular performance. The VO2max and AT remain the main parameters in defining the athletes performance. Therefore we cannot exclude any further utility of the AerT in normal subject but regularly trained. 展开更多

Purpose:The aim of this umbrella review was to determine the impact of resistance training(RT)and individual RT prescription variables on muscle mass, strength, and physical function in healthy adults. Methods:Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses(PRISMA)guidelines,we systematically searched and screened eligible systematic reviews reporting the effects of differing RT prescription variables on muscle mass(or its proxies),strength,and/or physical function in healthy adults aged>18 years. Results:We identified 44 systematic reviews that met our inclusion criteria. The methodological quality of these reviews was assessed using A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews;standardized effectiveness statements were generated. We found that RT was consistently a potent stimulus for increasing skeletal muscle mass(4/4 reviews provide some or sufficient evidence),strength(4/6 reviews provided some or sufficient evidence),and physical function(1/1 review provided some evidence).RT load(6/8 reviews provided some or sufficient evidence),weekly frequency(2/4 reviews provided some or sufficient evidence),volume(3/7 reviews provided some or sufficient evidence),and exercise order(1/1 review provided some evidence)impacted RT-induced increases in muscular strength. We discovered that 2/3 reviews provided some or sufficient evidence that RT volume and contraction velocity influenced skeletal muscle mass, while 4/7 reviews provided insufficient evidence in favor of RT load impacting skeletal muscle mass. There was insufficient evidence to conclude that time of day,periodization,inter-set rest, set configuration, set end point, contraction velocity/time under tension,or exercise order(only pertaining to hypertrophy)influenced skeletal muscle adaptations.A paucity of data limited insights into the impact of RT prescription variables on physical function. Conclusion:Overall,RT increased muscle mass, strength, and physical function compared to no exercise.RT intensity(load)and weekly frequency impacted RT-induced increases in muscular strength but not muscle hypertrophy.RT volume(number of sets)influenced muscular strength and hypertrophy. 展开更多

García-Hermoso and colleagues1 recently published a systematic literature review and meta-analysis on exercise training-induced changes in exerkine concentrations in type 2diabetes mellitus patients, providing a contemporary view on how exerkines respond to exercise training. That review prompted us to highlight 2 additional considerations that should be taken into account when studying the response of exerkines to exercise training.Firstly, whether exerkines can exhibit discordant responses to acute exercise compared to exercise training, and secondly, the need to consider the residual effects of the most recent exercise bout. 展开更多

Objective This study aimed to investigate the effect and underlying mechanism of Fructus lycii in improving exercise fatigue. Methods A network pharmacological approach was used to explore potential mechanisms of action of Fructus lycii.Skeletal muscle C2C12 cells and immunofluorescence were employed to verify the effect and mechanism of the representative components in Fructus lycii predicted by network pharmacological analysis. Results Six potential active components, namely quercetin,β-sitosterol,stigmasterol,7-Omethylluteolin-6-C-beta-glucoside_qt,atropine,and glycitein, were identified to have potency in improving exercise fatigue via multiple pathways, such as the PI3K-Akt,neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction,IL-17,TNF,and MAPK signaling pathways. The immunofluorescence results indicated that quercetin,a significant active component in Fructus lycii, increased the mean staining area of 2-NBDG,TMRM,and MitoTracker, and decreased the area of CellRox compared to the control.Furthermore, the protein expression levels of p-38 MAPK,p-MAPK,p-JNK,p-PI3K,and p-AKT markedly increased after quercetin treatment. Conclusion Fructus lycii might alleviate exercise fatigue through multiple components and pathways.Among these, quercetin appears to improve exercise fatigue by enhancing energy metabolism and reducing oxidative stress. The PI3K-AKT and MAPK signaling pathways also appear to play a role in this process. 展开更多

Background:The mobilization and redistribution of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)specific T-cells and neutralizing antibodies(nAbs)during exercise is purported to increase immune surveillance and protect against severe coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).We sought to determine if COVID-19 vaccination would elicit exercise-responsive SARS-CoV-2 T-cells and transiently alter nAb titers. Methods:Eighteen healthy participants completed a 20-min bout of graded cycling exercise before and/or after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. All major leukocyte subtypes were enumerated before, during, and after exercise by flow cytometry, and immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 were determined using whole blood peptide stimulation assays,T-cell receptor(TCR)-βsequencing,and SARS-CoV-2 nAb serology.Results:COVID-19 vaccination had no effect on the mobilization or egress of major leukocyte subsets in response to intensity-controlled graded exercise.However,non-infected participants had a significantly reduced mobilization of CD4+and CD8+naive T-cells,as well as CD4+central memory T-cells,after vaccination(synthetic immunity group);this was not seen after vaccination in those with prior SARS-CoV-2 infection(hybrid immunity group).Acute exercise after vaccination robustly mobilized SARS-CoV-2 specific T-cells to blood in an intensity-dependent manner. Both groups mobilized T-cells that reacted to spike protein;however, only the hybrid immunity group mobilized T-cells that reacted to membrane and nucleocapsid antigens.nAbs increased significantly during exercise only in the hybrid immunity group. Conclusion:These data indicate that acute exercise mobilizes SARS-CoV-2 specific T-cells that recognize spike protein and increases the redistribution of nAbs in individuals with hybrid immunity. 展开更多

Vertebrate neurons are highly dynamic cells that undergo several alterations in their functioning and physiologies in adaptation to various external stimuli. In particular, how these neurons respond to physical exercise has long been an area of active research.Studies of the vertebrate locomotor system’s adaptability suggest multiple mechanisms are involved in the regulation of neuronal activity and properties during exercise. In this brief review,we highlight recent results and insights from the field with a focus on the following mechanisms:(a)alterations in neuronal excitability during acute exercise;(b)alterations in neuronal excitability after chronic exercise;(c)exercise-induced changes in neuronal membrane properties via modulation of ion channel activity;(d)exercise-enhanced dendritic plasticity;and(e)exercise-induced alterations in neuronal gene expression and protein synthesis. Our hope is to update the community with a cellular and molecular understanding of the recent mechanisms underlying the adaptability of the vertebrate locomotor system in response to both acute and chronic physical exercise. 展开更多

In multiple sclerosis, only immunomodulato ry and immunosuppressive drugs are recognized as disease-modifying therapies.Howeve r,in recent years, several data from pre-clinical and clinical studies suggested a possible role of physical exe rcise as disease-modifying therapy in multiple sclerosis.Current evidence is sparse and often conflicting, and the mechanisms underlying the neuroprotective and antinflammatory role of exercise in multiple sclerosis have not been fully elucidated.Data, mainly derived from pre-clinical studies, suggest that exe rcise could enhance longterm potentiation and thus neuroplasticity, could reduce neuroinflammation and synaptopathy, and dampen astrogliosis and microgliosis. In humans, most trials focused on direct clinical and MRI outcomes,as investigating synaptic, neuroinflammato ry,and pathological changes is not straightfo rward compared to animal models. The present review analyzed current evidence and limitations in research concerning the potential disease-modifying therapy effects of exercise in multiple sclerosis in animal models and human studies. 展开更多

BACKGROUND A man experienced multiple episodes of macroscopic hematuria following nocturnal exercise.Urinary stones and tumors were considered the two most likely causes. The patient had two hobbies:Consuming health care products in large quantities and engaging in late-night running.CASE SUMMARY Health care products contain a large amount of calcium phosphate, and we hypothesize that this could induce the formation of small phosphate stones. After exercise, the urinary system is abraded, resulting in bleeding. The patient was advised to stop using the health care products.Consequently, the aforementioned symptoms disappeared immediately. However, the patient resumed the above two habits one year later;correspondingly, the macroscopic hematuria reap-peared.CONCLUSION This finding further confirmed the above inference and allowed for a new avenue to determine the cause of the patient’s hematuria. 展开更多

Alzheimer's disease(AD) is a progressive and degenerative neurological disease characterized by the deterioration of cognitive functions. While a definitive cure and optimal medication to impede disease progression are currently unavailable, a plethora of studies have highlighted the potential advantages of exercise rehabilitation for managing this condition. Those studies show that exercise rehabilitation can enhance cognitive function and improve the quality of life for individuals affected by AD. Therefore, exercise rehabilitation has been regarded as one of the most important strategies for managing patients with AD. Herein, we provide a comprehensive analysis of the currently available findings on exercise rehabilitation in patients with AD, with a focus on the exercise types which have shown efficacy when implemented alone or combined with other treatment methods, as well as the potential mechanisms underlying these positive effects. Specifically, we explain how exercise may improve the brain microenvironment and neuronal plasticity. In conclusion, exercise is a cost-effective intervention to enhance cognitive performance and improve quality of life in patients with mild to moderate cognitive dysfunction. Therefore, it can potentially become both a physical activity and a tailored intervention. This review may aid the development of more effective and individualized treatment strategies to address the challenges imposed by this debilitating disease, especially in low-and middle-income countries. 展开更多

Epilepsy frequently leads to cognitive dysfunction and approaches to treatment remain limited.Although regular exercise effectively improves learning and memory functions across multiple neurological diseases, its application in patients with epilepsy remains controversial. Here,we adopted a 14-day treadmill-exercise paradigm in a pilocarpine injection-induced mouse model of epilepsy.Cognitive assays confirmed the improvement of object and spatial memory after endurance training, and electrophysiological studies revealed the maintenance of hippocampal plasticity as a result of physical exercise.Investigations of the mechanisms underlying this effect revealed that exercise protected parvalbumin interneurons, probably via the suppression of neuroinflammation and improved integrity of blood-brain barrier. In summary, this work identified a previously unknown mechanism through which exercise improves cognitive rehabilitation in epilepsy. 展开更多

Background:The aim of this study is to investigate the mechanism of action underlying the therapeutic effects of the national patent Chinese medicine compound“Qiangxinhuoli prescription(QXHLF)”on chronic heart failure(CHF).Methods:In vitro, the H 9 C 2 cell model was induced by ANGII,and cell proliferation and related protein expression were detected by Cell Counting Kit-8 and Western blot.In vivo,A rat model of CHF was prepared by ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery. The effects of QXHLF on cardiac function in CHF rats were evaluated by cardiac index, hemodynamic changes,enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay,hematoxylin-eosin staining, immunohistochemistry,Western blot and RT-PCR.The expression of pro-apoptotic factors and anti-apoptotic factors,as well as TGFβ1,p-p38,TAK 1 mRNA,and protein, were detected. Results:In vitro,QXHLF has a significant inhibitory effect on the proliferation of H 9 C 2 cells.QXHLF can reduce the expression levels of TAK 1,TGFβ1,p-p38,Caspase3 and BAX proteins in H 9 C 2 cells, and increase the expression level of BCL 2 protein. In vivo,QXHLF has the potential to increase left ventricular systolic pressure,m aximum rate of change in left ventricular pressure while decreasing left ventricular end diastolic pressure, and inhibiting the serum levels of brain natriuretic peptide. Moreover,QXHLF exhibits significant improvements in the pathological alterations of myocardial cells and fibers in CHF rats, leading to enhanced myocardial tissue morphology and notable advantages in combating myocardial fibrosis.QXHLF can reduce the levels of BAX and Caspase3 and up-regulate the expression of BCL 2,thereby inhibiting cardiomyocyte apoptosis.Furthermore,QXHLF demonstrates inhibitory effects on the mRNA and protein expression levels of TGFβ1,TAK 1,and p-p38 in the heart tissue of the CHF rat model. Conclusion:These findings indicate that QXHLF has a therapeutic effect on CHF by inhibiting the p38-MAPK signaling pathway, reducing myocardial fibrosis, preventing apoptosis, inhibiting cell proliferation, and restoring myocardial injury. 展开更多

In recent years, the Westernization of dietary habits and increasingly sedentary lifestyle have contributed to a marked increase in the number of type 2 diabetes patients.Sedentary behavior may play a significant role in the development and aggravation of type 2 diabetes. The results of various follow-up studies have demonstrated that proper diet combined with physical exer-cise is useful in the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes.A nationwide survey regarding exercise therapy for diabetes patients in Japan revealed that relatively few physicians provide patients with exercise guidance because of time constraints, that the physicians do not receive additional consultation fee,and that there is a lack of specialized physical exercise educa-tors.Physical exercise promotes the utilization of glucose and free fatty acids in the muscles, and thus lowers blood glucose(BG)levels.Dietary restriction and physical exercise are effective in the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes by improving the in vivo sensitivity to insulin. Most adults with diabetes should engage in 150 min or more of moderate-to-vigorous intensity aerobic activity per week, spread out over at least 3 days/week,with no more than two consecutive days without activity.Mild-intensity resistance training such as half squat and calf raise is recommended for elderly individuals who have decreased muscle strength and mass(sarcopenia).Prolonged sitting should be interrupted every 30 min for BG benefits, particularly in adults with type 2 diabetes.Individuals with type 2 diabetes are also encouraged to increase their total daily unstructured physical activity(daily movement). 展开更多
