The effect and variation of major gene are estimated by the maximum likelihood method implemented via expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm. Major gene is tested with the likelihood ratio (LR) test statistic. Extensive simulation studies showed that joint analysis not only increases the statistical power of major gene detection but also improves the precision and accuracy of major gene effect estimates. An example of the plant height and the number of tiller of F2 population in rice cross Duonieai x Zhonghua 11 was used in the illustration. The results indicated that the genetic difference of these two traits in this cross refers to only one pleiotropic major gene. The additive effect and dominance effect of the major gene are estimated as -21.3 and 40.6 cm on plant height, and 22.7 and -25.3 on number of tiller, respectively. The major gene shows overdominance for plant height and close to complete dominance for number of tillers.展开更多

Based on the simple and independent maximum stress failure criterion, the failure index was introduced to characterize the degree of stress components close to their corresponding material strength. With a brief load transfer analysis, the weak fillers were prominent and further detailed discussion was performed. The maximum value among the average failure indices which were related with different stress components was filtrated to represent the failure strength of the critical surface, which is either the two curved upside surfaces or the bottom plane of the fillers for composite π joints. The tensile strength of three kinds of π joints with different material systems, configurations and lay-ups was predicted by the proposed method and corresponding experiments were conducted. Good agreements between the numerical and experimental results give evidence of the effectiveness of the proposed method. In contrast to the existed time-consuming strength prediction methods, the proposed method provides a capability of quickly assessing the failure of complex out-of-plane joints and is easy and convenient to be widely utilized in engineering.展开更多

Due to the requirement of miniaturization, lower weight, higher dens ity and higher performance in the advanced electric package, it is expected that flip chip package will soon be a mainstream technology. The silicon chip is dir ectly connected to printing circuit substrate by SnPb solder joints. Also, the u nderfill, a composite of polymer and silica particles, is filled in the gap betw een the chip and substrate around the solder joints to improve the reliabili ty of solder joints. When flip chip package specimen is tested with thermal cycl ing, the cyclic stress/strain response that exists at the underfill interfaces and solder joints may result in interfacial crack initiation and propagation. Therefore, the chip cracking and the interfacial delamination between underfill and chip corner have been investigated in many studies. Also, most researches h ave focused on the effect of fatigue and creep properties of solder joint induce d by the plastic strain alternation and accumulation. The nuderfill must have lo w viscosity in the liquid state and good adhesion to the interface after solidif ying. Also, the mechanical behavior of such epoxy material has much dependen ce on temperature in its glass transition temperature range that is usually cove red by the temperature range of thermal cycling test. Therefore, the materia l behavior of underfill exists a significant non-linearity and the assumption o f linear elastic can lack for accuracy in numerical analysis. Through numerical analysis, this study had some comparisons about the effect of linear and non -linear properties of underfill on strain behaviors around the interface of fli p chip assembly. Especially, the deformation tendency inside solder bumps could be predicted. Also, it is worthily mentioned that we have pointed out which comp onent of plastic strain, thus, either normal or shear, has dominant influence to the fatigue and creep of solder bump, which have not brought up before. About the numerical analysis to the thermal plastic strain occurs in flip chip i nterconnection during thermal cycling test, a commercial finite element software , namely, ANSYS, was employed to simulate the thermal cycling test obeyed by MIL-STD-883C. The temperatures of thermal cycling ranged from -55 ℃ to 125 ℃ with ramp rate of 36 ℃/min and a dwell time of 25 min at peak temperature. Specifically, both the spectrum density and different regions of the enhanced spectrum are analyzed. Experimental results show that for a spectrum of some density, the joint time-frequency gain-modification based speech enhancement algorithm achieves significant improvement in intelligibility. Additionally, the spectrum region where the estimated spectrum is smaller than the clean spectrum, is the most important region contributing to intelligibility improvement for the enhanced whisper. The spectrum region where the estimated spectrum is larger than twice the size of the clean spectrum is detrimental to speech intelligibility perception within the whisper context.展开更多

Marsh spot(MS) of the seeds is a physio-genic stress disease affecting seed quality in beans. Studies have suggested that this disease involves a nutritional disorder caused by manganese deficiency, but the inheritance of resistance to this disease has not been reported. A biparental genetic population composed of 138 recombinant inbred lines(RILs) was developed from a cross between an MS resistant cultivar ‘Cran09’ and an MS susceptible cultivar ‘Messina’. The 138 RILs and their two parents were evaluated for MS resistance during five consecutive years from 2015 to 2019 in sandy and heavy clay soils in Morden, Manitoba, Canada. The MS incidence(MSI) and the MS resistance index(MSRI) representing disease severity were shown to be both highly correlated heritable traits that had high broad-sense heritability values(H;) of 86.5% and 83.2%, respectively. No significant differences for MSI and MSRI were observed between the two soil types in all five-(MSI) or four-year(MSRI) data collection, but significant correlations among years were observed despite MS resistance was moderately affected by year. The MSIs and MSRIs displayed a right-skewed distribution, indicating a mixed genetic model involving a few major genes and polygenes. Using the joint segregation analysis method, the same four major genes with additive-epistasis effects showed the best fit for both traits, explaining 84.4% and85.3% of the phenotypic variance for MSI and MSRI, respectively. For both traits, the M1, M2, M3 and m4 acted as the favorable(resistant) alleles for the four genes where M and m represent two alleles of each gene. However, due to epistatic effects, only the individuals of the M1 M2 M3 M4 haplotype appeared to be highly resistant, whereas those of the m1 m2 m3 M4 haplotype were the most susceptible. The m4 allele significantly suppressed the additive effects of M1 M2 M3 on resistance, but decreased susceptibility due to the additive effects of m1 m2 m3. Further quantitative trait locus(QTL) mapping is warranted to identify and validate individual genes and develop molecular markers for marker-assisted selection of resistant cultivars.展开更多

The most severe floods were in the late 18th and early 19th century. With such a long history of flooding, some remedial measures would have been expected but the local people have, to some extent, adapted to the flood hazard by means of temporary and permanent flood proofing methods such as a cemented board across a doorway and removable flood boards. These measures were overwhelmed during the 2015 flood, as were the flood gates installed by the Environment Agency in 1998. A higher level of protection from floods at Appleby is called for.展开更多

Based on the up-to-date development of new technology and digital broadband seismology, we discussed the Asian Seismological Commission (ASC) Proposal “Asian-Pacific Seismological Data Center”. We applied the concept of virtual seismological network (Ottemoeller and Havskov, 1999) to the proposed ASC data exchange program. Based on the development of digital seismology, we introduced a concept of “modern earthquake catalogues” which include not only location parameters and magnitudes as in the conventional earthquake catalogues but also new parameters of earthquakes such as CMT, radiated energy, STF, and earthquake rupture process. We recommended a web-based regional international data exchange program between the ASC members with the purpose of forming a virtual Asian-Pacific seismological network, and the interpretation and analysis of broadband digital seismic waveforms conducted at distributed “data centers”.展开更多

Experimental results indicated that the joint efficiency tended to increase at first and then to reduce with the increase of heat input. The joint efficiency reached its maximum of about 70% when the heat input was 155 J/mm. The metallurgical bonding between magnesium alloy and steel was a thin continuous reaction layer, and the intermetallic compound layer consisted of Mg–Zn and slight Fe–Al phases. It is concluded that bypass-current MIG welding–brazing is a stable welding process, which can be used to achieve defect-free joining of magnesium alloy to steel with good weld appearances.展开更多

A comparison between the two processes was performed by varying the welding speed while keeping the rotational speed constant, Through the analysis of the force and torque produced during welding and a simple analytical model, it was possible to show that in SSFSW there is more effective coupling with the tool and the heat produced is more efficiently distributed. This process decreases both the welding area and the diffusion at the interface of the two alloys compared with FSW. The minimum microhardness occurred at the advancing side (AS) at the interface between the thermo-mechanically affected zone (TMAZ) and the stir zone (SZ) in both processes, although the decrease was more gradual in SSFSW. This interface is also where all specimens failed for both welding technologies. An increase in tensile strength was measured in SSFSW compared with standard FSW. Furthermore, it was possible to establish the mechanical performance of the material in the fracture zone using digital image correlation.展开更多

Using wavelet leaders, we propose a method for characterizing the joint multifractal nature of these long-range cross correlations; we call this method joint multifractal analysis based on wavelet leaders (MF-X-WL). We test the validity of tile MF-X-WL method by performing extensive numerical experiments on dual binomial measures with multifractal cross correlations and bivariate fractional Brownian motions (bFBMs) with monofractal cross correlations. Both experiments indicate that MF-X-WL is capable of detecting cross correlations in synthetic data with acceptable estimating errors. We also apply the MF-X-WL method to pairs of series from financial markets (returns and volatilities) and online worlds (online numbers of different genders and different societies) and determine intriguing joint multifractal behavior.展开更多

The robot MANA designed on the basis of the structure of quadruped mammal is able to not only walk and turn in the uneven terrain, but also accomplish various manipulating tasks as a parallel manipulator in quadruple stance phase. The latter will be the focus of this paper, however. For this purpose, the leg kinematics is primarily analyzed, which lays the foundation on the gait planning in terms of locomotion and body kinematics analysis as a parallel manipulator. When all four feet of the robot contact on the ground, by assuming there is no slipping at the feet, each contacting point is treated as a passive spherical joint and the kinematic model of parallel manipulator is established. The method for choosing six non-redundant actuated joints for the parallel manipulator from all twelve optional joints is elaborated. The inverse and forward displacement analysis of the parallel manipulator is carried out using the method of coordinate transformation. Finally, based on the inverse and forward kinematic model, two issues on obtaining the reachable workspace of parallel manipulator and planning the motion of the body are implemented and verified by ADAMS simulation.展开更多

Modal analysis with base excitation is solved, and time histories of contact points are closely monitored. Using the impulse during steady state response, six influential parameters are studied: damping ratio, contact stiffness, intermediate contact position, gap, excitation amplitude and beam height. For all parameters, the system response is highly controlled by modes with two contacting springs. Each parameter's effect on system response is presented including unstable regions, unique trend behaviours result. Recommendations for structural designers are also noted.展开更多

In this study, two cases of material model were used to describe the material behavior of the underfill: the case1 was linear elastic model that assumed Young’s Modulus (E) and thermal expansion coefficient (CTE) were consta nt during thermal cycling; the case2 was MKIN model (in ANSYS) that had nonlinea r temperature-dependent stress-strain relationship and temperature-dependent CTE. The material model applied to the solder bump was ANAND model (in ANSYS) th at described time-dependent plasticity phenomenon of viscoplastic material. Bot h the FR-4 substrate and silicon chip were assumed as temperature-independent elastic material; moreover, FR-4 substrate is orthotropic while silicon chip is isotropic. From the comparison between numerical results of linear and nonlinear material a ssumption of underfill, (i.e. case1 and case2), the quantities of plastic strain around the interconnection from case1 are higher than that in case2. Thus, the linear

文摘Some factors influencing the intelligibility of the enhanced whisper in the joint time-frequency domain are evaluated. The spectrum region where the estimated spectrum is larger than twice the size of the clean spectrum is detrimental to speech intelligibility perception within the whisper context.

文摘Rock joint shape characteristics, waviness and unevenness play essential but distinct roles in shear mechanism of rock joints. This study presents a novel method to generate virtual rock joint profiles with realistic waviness and unevenness features.Firstly, joint profiles are obtained by 3D laser scanning device.Secondly, quantification of waviness and unevenness is conducted by traditional method, including digital filtering technique and roughness parameter RL.Thirdly, the discrete Fourier transform(DFT)method is employed to analyze the joint outlines. Two representative Fourier shape descriptors(D3,D8)for characterization of waviness and unevenness are suggested. Then, the inverse discrete Fourier transform(IDFT)is adopted to reconstruct the joint profiles with random values of phase angles but prescribed amplitudes controlled by D3 and D8.The traditional method is then applied to the reconstructed joint profiles to examine statistically the relationships between D3 and D8 and parameters RL of waviness and unevenness, respectively. The results show that larger D8 tends to result in larger waviness while higher D3 tends to increase unevenness.Reference charts for estimation of waviness and unevenness with different pairs of D3 and D8 are also provided to facilitate implementation of random joint reconstruction.

文摘Common bean(Phaseolus vulgaris) is an annual legume crop that is grown worldwide for its edible dry seeds and tender pods. Further quantitative trait locus(QTL) mapping is warranted to identify and validate individual genes and develop molecular markers for marker-assisted selection of resistant cultivars.
文摘An analysis of nearly 250 years of flood records on the river Eden at Appleby-in-Westmorland has enabled a flood frequency relationship to be established. A higher level of protection from floods at Appleby is called for.
文摘Regional international cooperation in seismic data exchange and joint seismological analysis in the Asian-Pacific regions plays an important role in the reduction of earthquake disasters in these regions as well as the development of global seismology. We recommended a web-based regional international data exchange program between the ASC members with the purpose of forming a virtual Asian-Pacific seismological network, and the interpretation and analysis of broadband digital seismic waveforms conducted at distributed “data centers”.

文摘Experiments were carried out with bypass-current MIG welding–brazing of magnesium alloy to galvanized steel to investigate the effect of heat input on the microstructure and mechanical properties of lap joints. It is concluded that bypass-current MIG welding–brazing is a stable welding process, which can be used to achieve defect-free joining of magnesium alloy to steel with good weld appearances.
文摘Friction stir welding (FSW) and stationary shoulder friction stir welding (SSFSW) were carried out for the butt joining of dissimilar AA2024-T3 and AA7050-T7651 aluminium alloys with thicknesses of 2 mm. Furthermore, it was possible to establish the mechanical performance of the material in the fracture zone using digital image correlation.

文摘Mutually interacting components form complex systems and these components usually have long- range cross-correlated outputs. We also apply the MF-X-WL method to pairs of series from financial markets (returns and volatilities) and online worlds (online numbers of different genders and different societies) and determine intriguing joint multifractal behavior.
文摘This paper presents the forward and inverse displacement analysis of a quadruped robot MANA as a parallel manipulator in quadruple stance phase, which is used to obtain the workspace and control the motion of the body. Finally, based on the inverse and forward kinematic model, two issues on obtaining the reachable workspace of parallel manipulator and planning the motion of the body are implemented and verified by ADAMS simulation.
文摘Background:In disease mapping field, researchers often encounter data from multiple sources.Such data are fraught with challenges such as lack of a representative sample, often incomplete and most of which may have measurement errors, and may be spatially and temporally misaligned. This paper presents a joint model in the effort to deal with the sampling bias and misalignment. Methods:A joint(bivariate)spatial model was applied to estimate HIV prevalence using two sources:2014 National HIV Sentinel survey(NHSS)among pregnant women aged 15-49 years attending antenatal care(ANC)and the 2013 Namibia Demographic and Health Surveys(NDHS).Results:Findings revealed that health districts and constituencies in the northern part of Namibia were found to be highly associated with HIV infection. Also, the study showed that place of residence, gender, gravida, marital status, number of kids dead, wealth index, education, and condom use were significantly associated with HIV infection in Namibia. Conclusion:This study had shown determinants of HIV infection in Namibia and had revealed areas at high risk through HIV prevalence mapping. Moreover,a joint modelling approach was used in order to deal with spatially misaligned data. Finally,it was shown that prediction of HIV prevalence using the NDHS data source can be enhanced by jointly modelling other HIV data such as NHSS data. These findings would help Namibia to tailor national intervention strategies for specific regions and groups of population.
文摘To represent a loose lap joint, a beam impacting four springs with gaps is modeled. Recommendations for structural designers are also noted.
