Polyester fiberglass (PFG) waste was treated at 550℃ for 3 h in a 9.6 dm3 thermolytic reactor. This process yielded an oil (≈24 wt%), a gas (≈8 wt%) and a solid residue (≈68 wt%). After the polymer has been removed, the solid residue is heated in air to oxidize residual char and remove surface contamination. The cleaning fibers were converted into glass-ceramic tile. A mixture consisting of 95 wt% of this solid residue and 5% Na2O was melted at 1450℃ to obtain a glass frit. Powder glass samples (<63 μm) was then sintered and crystallized at 1013℃, leading to the formation of wollastonite-plagioclase glass-ceramic materials for architectural applications. Thermal stability and crystallization mechanism have been studied by Differential Thermal Analysis. Mineralogy analyses of the glass-ceramic materials were carried out using X-ray Diffraction.展开更多

Glass fibers measuring, 1/16" and 1/32" at different concentrations (0 wt% - 20 wt%) were used to reinforce rigid PVC foams;the PVC foam-glass fiber (PVC-GF) composites were extruded using a single screw profile extruder. The extruded PVC-GF composites were characterized for their dimensional stability, structural, thermal, and mechanical properties. Experimental results show that the dimensional stability, heat resistance, and storage modulus were enhanced without compromising the tensile and flexural strengths of the composites. Thermal shrinkage decreased by almost 55% in composites reinforced with 1/32" GF and by 60% in composites reinforced with 1/16" GFs, with visible improvements to the shape distortion. Overall, foam composites which were prepared with longer (1/16") glass fibers exhibited better mechanical and thermal properties than those prepared with shorter (1/32") glass fibers. Microstructural observations suggest that this is due to better interlocking between the long fibers and the foam cells, which result in better load distribution in the matrix.展开更多

However, due to elastic and viscous-plastic properties of this material, it wears quickly under the influence of some external parameters during operation. There are therefore material loss, increased clearance and loss of sealing. This work summarises a series of tests carried out with this material in order to analyse the variation of the friction coefficient due to the roughness of the work piece brought into contact with the PTFE, the linear velocity of contact between them and material yield strength. To do this analysis, we used the method of unconventional design of experiments to model the behaviour of material and consequently make decisions to reduce this wear. The results are shown and deeply analysed in the following text as a polynomial mathematical model, graphs, contours and response surfaces illustrating the holding of this material under the effect of the three parameters mentioned above. The previous PTFE samples enriched with chopped glass fibers are not subjected to axially force this time, contrary to the force applied radially. The advantage of this method is the relative linear velocity at the contact sample-disc and the applied pressure remains constant. Under the action of the weight “P” applied on the sample, it comes into friction with the rotating disc whose roughness changes from experience to another;it is expressed by the values of Ra. Tangential friction force appears at the point of contact and is equilibrated by measured force Fm on the lever. The calculation of the moment relative bench axis caused by 2 forces gives the coefficient of friction. Knowing the values of frictional force Ft by calculation and the weight P, we determine then the friction coefficient.展开更多

The composition of all the samples was PTFE, SiO2 and chopped E-glass fibers. The effects of content of E-glass fibers on the properties of the SiO2 filled PTFE composites were investigated, including density, water absorption, dielectric properties (εr, tanδ), coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and temperature coefficient of dielectric constant (τε). The compositions of inorganic materials mixture are (62 ? x) % SiO2 + x % E-glass fiber (x: mass ratio to composites, x = 0, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3). The results show that as the content of E-glass fibers is 2.5 wt.%, this composite obtains optimal properties, including excellent dielectric properties (εr^2.9123, tanδ~0.0011), acceptable water absorption of 0.075%, temperature coefficient of dielectric constant of 10 ppm/?C and coefficient of thermal expansion of 15.87 ppm/?C.展开更多

On this basis, the materials were batched according to the mass fraction of SiO_2 aerogel powder to chopped alkali free glass fiber bundles of 90:10, and a certain amount of zinc oxide light-screening agent and phenolic resin binder were added. SiO_2 aerogel glass fiber composite specimens were prepared by direct adding chopped alkali free glass fiber bundles and pre-dispersed chopped alkali free glass fiber bundles, respectively. The cold crushing strength and the thermal conductivity at different surface temperatures(300, 400, 500 and 600 ℃, respectively)of the specimens were measured. The results show that:(1) the optimum dispersion process of chopped alkali-free glass fiber bundles is using ethanol as solvent and mechanical stirring for 30 min;(2) pre-dispersion of chopped alkali-free glass fiber bundles has little effect on the thermal conductivity of SiO_2 aerogel-glass fiber composites but can improve the cold crushing strength.展开更多

The results show that with the addition of Al2O3 and Y2O3, the glass network structure is strengthened and the precipitation of crystals is inhibited for heat-treated fibers. Compared with Y2O3 doped fibers, Al2O3 presents more significant effects on the enhancement of silica network and the inhibition of crystallization in fibers. As for dissolution properties in physiological fluids, though the weight losses, changes of pH values and leached ions concentration lower slightly with the addition of Al2O3 and Y2O3 for the intensified network structure, and fibers still present high dissolution rates.展开更多

C.) beams using prestressed glass fi- ber-reinforced polymer (PGFRP). Carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) has recently become popular for use as repair or rehabilitation material for deteriorated R. C. structures, but because CFRP material is very stiff, the difference in CFRP sheet and concrete material properties is not favorable for transferring the prestress from CFRP sheets to R. C. members. Glass fi- ber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) sheets with Modulus of Elasticity quite close to that of concrete was chosen in this study. The load-carrying capacities (ultimate loads) and the deflections of strengthened R. C. beams using GFRP and PGFRP sheets were tested and compared. T- and ⊥-shaped beams were used as the under-strengthened and over-strengthened beams. The GFRP sheets were prestressed to one-half their tensile capacities before being bonded to the T- and ⊥-shaped R. C. beams. The prestressed tension in the PGFRP sheets caused cambers in the R. C. beams without cracks on the tensile faces. The PGFRP sheets also enhanced the load-carrying capacity. The test results indicated that T-shaped beams with GFRP sheets increased in load-carrying capacity by 55% while the same beams with PGFRP sheets could increase load-carrying capacity by 100%. The ⊥-shaped beams with GFRP sheets could increase load-carrying capacity by 97% while the same beams with PGFRP sheets could increase the loading-carrying capacity by 117%. Under the same external loads, beams with GFRP sheets underwent larger deflections than beams with PGFRP sheets. While GFRP sheets strengthen R. C. beams, PGFRP sheets decrease the beams’ ductility, especially for the over-strengthened beams (⊥-shaped beams).展开更多

C.) beams using prestressed glass fiber-reinforced polymer (PGFRP) was studied experimentally as described in Part I of this paper (Huang et al., 2005). In that paper, R. C. beams, R. C. beams with GFRP (glass fiber-reinforced polymer) sheets, and R. C. beams with PGFRP sheets were tested in both under-strengthened and over-strengthened cases. The test results showed that the load-carrying capacities (ultimate loads) of the beams with GFRP sheets were greater than those of the beams without polymer sheets. The load-carrying capacities of beams with PGFRP sheets were greater than those of beams with GFRP sheets. The objective of this work is to develop an analytical method to compute all of these load-carrying capacities. This analytical method is independent of the experiments and based only on the traditional R. C. and P. C. (prestressed concrete) theory. The analytical results accorded with the test results. It is suggested that this analytical method be used for analyzing and designing R. C. beams strengthened using GFRP or PGFRP sheets.展开更多

文摘In this paper, glass fibers were prepared by centrifugal-spinneret-blow(CSB) process. The molten glass got different flow rate from 390 kg/h to 270 kg/h by adjusting the electric current of platinum/10 rhodium alloy bushing. The diameter and microstructure of glass fibers have been investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and vertical optical microscope(VOM).The results indicated that the flow rate of molten glass was proportional to the diameter of glass fibers when the molten glass got main flow rate of 330 kg/h.The lower the flow rate was,the finer the average diameter was.
文摘Polytetrafluoroethylene reinforced with glass fibers is a composite material widely used in industry mainly for the manufacture of seals at the level of the rotary shafts of vehicles and stationary floor machines such as turbines and compressors. Knowing the values of frictional force Ft by calculation and the weight P, we determine then the friction coefficient.
文摘In this work, the polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-based composite substrates were manufactured by mixing, calendering, hot-pressing sintering. The results show that as the content of E-glass fibers is 2.5 wt.%, this composite obtains optimal properties, including excellent dielectric properties (εr^2.9123, tanδ~0.0011), acceptable water absorption of 0.075%, temperature coefficient of dielectric constant of 10 ppm/?C and coefficient of thermal expansion of 15.87 ppm/?C.
文摘In this study, artificial neural networks trained with swarm based artificial bee colony optimization algorithm was implemented for prediction of the modulus of rapture values of the fabricated glass fiber reinforced concrete panels. For the application of the ANN models,143 different four-point bending test results of glass fiber reinforced concrete mixes with the varied parameters of temperature, fiber content and slump values were introduced the artificial bee colony optimization and conventional back propagation algorithms.Training and the testing results of the corresponding models showed that artificial neural networks trained with the artificial bee colony optimization algorithm have remarkable potential for the prediction of modulus of rupture values and this method can be used as a preliminary decision criterion for quality check of the fabricated products.

文摘In order to improve the mechanical properties of SiO_2 aerogel-glass fiber composites, effects of different solvents(cyclohexane, n-hexane, ethanol, acetone) and different dispersing modes(planetary ball milling, ultrasonic dispersion and mechanical stirring) and dispersing duration(10-40 min) on the dispersion of chopped alkali-free glass fiber bundles were studied to determine the best dispersion process. The results show that:(1) the optimum dispersion process of chopped alkali-free glass fiber bundles is using ethanol as solvent and mechanical stirring for 30 min;(2) pre-dispersion of chopped alkali-free glass fiber bundles has little effect on the thermal conductivity of SiO_2 aerogel-glass fiber composites but can improve the cold crushing strength.

文摘Glass fiber reinforced polypropylene(GF-PP)composites have high flammability on account of wick effect which leads to accelerated flow of the polymer melt along the glass fibers(GF)surface to the flame zone.In this study, dipentaerythritol(DPER),a charring agent, was adsorbed on the GF surface through the hydrogen bond between silane coupling agent and DPER.DPER has a synergistic effect with the intumescent flame retardants(IFR)added in the composites, which can induce interfacial carbonization on the surface of GF,thus transforming the intrinsic smooth GF surface into roughness one.In this way,the negative effect of the wick effect in flame retardancy is weakened. Moreover, the char residues remained on the surface of GF can bring an improved adhesion between GF and char residues formed in the resin so that a more stable barrier char layer is formed. The PP composites with 20 wt%modified glass fiber(M-GF)and 30 wt%IFR can achieve the UL-94 V-0,and its limiting oxygen index(LOI)value increased from 16.5%to 29.5%.Simultaneously,the heat release rate(HRR),total heat release(THR)and total smoke release(TSR)decreased significantly, and the peak of heat release rate(PHRR)reduced60.6%compared with GF-PP.

文摘Structure, crystallization and dissolution properties of CaO-MgO-SiO2 inorganic glass fiber in the presence of additives (Al2O3, Y2O3) were investigated by DTA, XRD, FTIR and ICP-AES techniques. As for dissolution properties in physiological fluids, though the weight losses, changes of pH values and leached ions concentration lower slightly with the addition of Al2O3 and Y2O3 for the intensified network structure, and fibers still present high dissolution rates.
文摘This work is aimed at studying the strengthening of reinforced concrete (R. C. beams, PGFRP sheets decrease the beams’ ductility, especially for the over-strengthened beams (⊥-shaped beams).
文摘Strengthening reinforced concrete (R. C. beams strengthened using GFRP or PGFRP sheets.
