The effect of open porosity of Y2O3ceramic on the apparent contact angle and interaction between molten Ti47 Al alloy and Y2O3ceramic substrates under pure Ar was investigated by using a sessile drop method at 1600 °C. As the open porosity increased from 9.6% to 30.3%, the spreading rate of molten Ti47 Al alloys on Y2O3ceramic substrates reduced from 2.3 to 1.1°/s; meanwhile, the final equilibrium contact angles increased from 55.8° to 63.6°. The microstructure observations revealed that with increasing the open porosity of the Y2O3substrates, the thickness of sand adhesion at the interfaces of the alloy droplets increased from 5.4 to 15.7 lm, and ceramic particles in the alloy matrix increased as well. The increasing contact area between the molten alloy and the substrate played a dominant role in determining the interaction on Ti Al/Y2O3interface. 展开更多

The effects of polyurethane sponge pretreatment and slurry compositions on the slurry loading in precursor were discussed, and the performances of stainless steel foams prepared from precursors with different slurry loadings and different particle sizes of the stainless steel powder were also investigated. The experimental results show that the pretreatment of sponge with alkaline solution is effective to reduce the jam of cells in precursor and ensure the slurry to uniformly distribute in sponge, and it is also an effective method for increasing the slurry loading in precursor;the mass fraction of additive A and solid content in slurry greatly affect the slurry loading in precursor, when they are kept in 9%-13% and 52%-75%,respectively,the stainless steel foam may hold excellent 3D open-cell network structure and uniform muscles;the particle size of the stainless steel powder and the slurry loading in precursor have great effects on the bending strength, apparent density and open porosity of stainless steel foam;when the stainless steel powder with particle size of 44 μm and slurry loading of 0.5 g/cm3 in precursor are used,a stainless steel foam can be obtained, which has open porosity of 81.2%,bending strength of about 51.76 MPa and apparent density of about 1.0 g/cm3. 展开更多

Powder compacted and sintered Nb205 pellets were cathodically polarised against graphite anode in calcium chloride melt at 1173 K to study the influence of various factors on the electrochemical reduction of the oxide. The parameters were; duration and temperature of electrolysis, open porosity of pellets, nature of anode, mode of electrolysis and configuration of the oxide cathode. The experiments were also conducted in KC1, KC1-25 tool% CaC12 and NaC1 melts to understand the effect of melt composition on the electroreduction. Different Ca-Nb-O and Nb-O intermediates were found in the pellets electrolysed for different durations of time in CaC12 melt which eventually reduced to Nb. The current efficiency of the process decreased with increasing duration of electrolysis. Decrease in electrolysis temperature from 1 173 to 1073 K led to the decrease in the rate of reduction of the oxide pellets. Pellets with high open porosity reduced faster. Carbon contamination of the melt was relatively less when pyrolytic graphite was used as anode. Of all the melts studied, the reduction was found to be better in calcium chloride melt, that too when alumina crucible was used as container of the melt. 展开更多
