From the low-dimensional condensed matter physics perspective, a valid mechanism is proposed to bring a type of novel channels that, under a proper external electric field, transition- forbidden triplet excitons are transformed and partially charged by charge carriers (polarons/bipolarons), thus are able to emit light and to enhance fluorescence greatly. 展开更多

Exciplex formation and properties at organic solid interface in organic light emitting devices

The bilayer organic light emitting devices (OLEDs) using two common aromatic diamines as hole transporting materials (HTMs) and BBOT (2,5-bis(5-tert-butyl-2-benzoxazolyl)thiophene) as electron transporting material have been prepared, in which the electroluminescent spectra are different from the fluorescent spectra of each of the constituent materials. The electroluminescence is mainly attributed to exciplex confirmed by photoluminescence and electroluminescence measurements, and the type of exicplex is deternfined in terms of the energy level diagram of the bilayer devices, By comparing the molecular structures and energy levels of TPD and NPB, it is demonstrated that the structure of a molecule as well as its energy level has an effect on the exciplex formation. 展开更多

By doping red dye 4 dicyanomethylene 2 ( tert butyl) 6 methyl 4H pyran(DCJTB) in the tris (8 hydroxyquinolinato) metal Mq 3(where M = Al, Ga, In) chelate complexes, a series of red dopant organic light emitting diodes with different doping concentrations have been fabricated. The electroluminescence efficiency of these red diodes with a DCJTB doped Mq 3 emitting layer is found to be decreased markedly with the increasing of doping concentration. Electroluminescence characteristics of these devices are studied in terms of energy levels matching of red dopant with the host materials and carrier transporting layers. 展开更多

Novel pyridine-containing macrocyclic compounds, such as 6,12,19,25-tetramethyl-7,11,20,24-dinitrilo-dibenzo [b,m]1,4,12,15-tetra-azacyclodoc osine (TMCD), were synthesized and used as electron transport layer in organic electroluminescent devices. Devices with a structure of glass/indium-tin oxide/arylamine derivative/ tris(quinolinolato)aluminum(Ⅲ) (Alq)/TMCD/LiF/Al exhibited green emission from the Alq layer with external quantum efficiency of 0.84% and luminous efficiency of 1.3 lm/W. The derivatives of TMCD were synthesized and characterized as well. These compounds were also found to be useful as the electron-transporting materials in organic electroluminescent devices. 展开更多

Organic multiple quantum wells(OMQWs) consisting of alternating layers of organic materials have been fabricated from tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum(Alq)and 2-(4-biphenylyl)-5-(4-tertbutylphenyl)-1,3,3-oxadiazole(PBD) by a multisource-type high-vacuum organic molecular deposition.From the small-angle X-ray diffraction patterns of Alq/PBD OMQWs,a periodically layered structure is confirmed through the entire stack.The Alq layer thickness in the OMQWs was varied from 1 nm to 4 nm.From the optical absorption,photoluminescence and electroluminescence measurements,it is found that the exciton energy shifts to higher energy with decreasing Alq layer thickness,The changes of the exciton energy could be interpreted as the confinement effects of exciton in the Alq thin layers.Narrowing of the emission spectrum has also been observed for the electroluminescent devices (ELDs) with the OMQWs structure at room temperature. 展开更多

This paper reports that the polymer/organic heterojunction doped light-emitting diodes using a novel poly-TPD as hole transport material and doping both hole transport layer and emitter layer with the highly fluorescent rubrene and DCJTB has been successfully fabricated. The basic structure of the heterostructure is PTPD/Alq3. When hole transport layer and electron transport layer are doped simultaneously with different dopant, the electrol quantum efficiencies are about 3 times greater than that of the undoped device. Compared with undoped device and conventional TPD/Alq3 diode, the stability of the doping device is significantly improved. The process of emission for doped device may include carrier trapping as well as FSrster energy transfer. 展开更多

Two types of molecular and polymer devices employing (2-(4′-biphenyl)-5-(4″-tert-butylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole) (PBD) and poly(N-vinylcarbazole)(PVK) as electron transport and hole transport materials, respectively, have been fabricated. The structures of these two devices are ITO/PVK(70 nm)/PBD(60 nm)/Al and ITO/PVK∶PBD(1∶1 by mass, 70 nm)/Al. The formation of exciplex is evident by comparing the electroluminescence (EL) of a bi-layer device and the photoluminescence (PL) of a PVK and PBD mixed film. The maximum emission energy of exciplex evaluated is consistent with the peak emission of EL. Blue emissions from both devices are obtained. The type of exicplex is interpreted based on the energy level diagram of the bi-layer device. 展开更多

When x is 0.5, the device emits pure red color with the maximal brightness of 100 cd·m -2 and has good commutation property. The luminous efficiency of organic light-emitting devices depends on the recombination probability of electrons injected at the cathode and holes at the anode. A theoretical model to calculate the distribution of current densities and the recombination rate in organic single layer devices is presented taking into account the charge injection process at each electrode, charge transport and recombination in organic layer. The calculated results indicate that efficient single-layer devices are possible by adjusting the barrier heights at two electrodes and the carrier mobilities. Lowering the barrier heights can improve the electroluminescent(EL) efficiency pronouncedly in many cases, and efficient devices are still possible using an ohmic contact to inject the low mobility carrier, and a contact limited contact to inject the high mobility carrier. All in all, high EL efficiency needs to consider sufficient recombination, enough injected carriers and well transport. 展开更多

PPV-based copolymers with cyano group in the main chain have been synthesized by Wittig-type polycondensation of alkoxy-substituted dialdehydes and 4,4’-bis(cyanomethyl)-substituted diphenyl ether: [―C6H4―O―C6H4―... PPV-based copolymers with cyano group in the main chain have been synthesized by Wittig-type polycondensation of alkoxy-substituted dialdehydes and 4,4’-bis(cyanomethyl)-substituted diphenyl ether: [―C6H4―O―C6H4―C(CN)(CH―C6H2(OR)2―C(C(CN)―]n (POPPV). The copolymers are highly soluble in common solvents and their super highly transparent homogeneous thin films can be formed by spin coating directly without heat treatment. The chemical structures are determined by NMR and IR spectroscopys and evaluated using photoluminescence, gel-permeation chromatography (GPC) and DSC (or TGA) methods. The incorporation of ether group into the PPV backbone has an interruption of the main-chain conjugation, that results in the blue-shift of electroluminescence spectra and enhancement the solubility. 展开更多

We investigate the effect of thermal annealing before and after cathode deposition on the stability of polymer light-emitting diodes (PLEDs) based on green fluorescent polyfluorene derivative. The annealed PLEDs exhibit improved charge transport and red-shift emission compared to the as-fabricated device. The stability of the PLEDs is largely enhanced by post-annealing before and after Ca deposition, which is attributed to the enhanced charge transport and the intimate contact between the cathode and the emissive layer. 展开更多

The devices exhibited the green electroluminescent (EL) emission peaking at 513 nm, originating from the Gd(PMIP) 3(Bipy). By improving the configuration, the device with a structure of ITO/poly(N vinylcarbazole) (PVK) (40 nm)/Gd(PMIP) 3(Bipy) (40 nm)/tris (8 hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (ALQ) (40 nm)/Mg∶Ag(200 nm)/Ag(100 nm) showed higher performance and a maximum luminance of 340 cd·m -2 at 18 V. 展开更多
