Investigating the role of Big Five personality traits in relation to various health outcomes has been extensively studied. The impact of “Big Five” on physical health is here explored for older Europeans with a focus on examining age groups differences. The study sample included 378,500 respondents derived from the seventh data wave of Survey of Health, Aging and Retirement in Europe (SHARE). The physical health status of older Europeans was estimated by constructing an index considering the combined effect of well-established health indicators such as the number of chronic diseases, mobility limitations, limitations with basic and instrumental activities of daily living, and self-perceived health. This index was used for an overall physical health assessment, for which the higher the score for an individual, the worst health level. Then, through a dichotomization process applied to the retrieved Principal Component Analysis scores, a two-group discrimination (good or bad health status) of SHARE participants was obtained as regards their physical health condition, allowing for further con-structing logistic regression models to assess the predictive significance of “Big Five” and their protective role for physical health. Results showed that neuroti-cism was the most significant predictor of physical health for all age groups un-der consideration, while extraversion, agreeableness and openness were not found to significantly affect the self-reported physical health levels of midlife adults aged 50 up to 64. Older adults aged 65 up to 79 were more prone to open-ness, whereas the oldest old individuals aged 80 up to 105 were mainly affected by openness and conscientiousness. . 展开更多

This study aimed to investigate how people’s subjective health changed after the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic.This survey was conducted in May 2021 as a nationwide online self-reported survey in Japan. The respondents indicated how their sleep, physical condition, and mental state altered after the pandemic.Furthermore, they answered questionnaires about their intention to get vaccinated, the means of gathering information, etc.A logistic regression analysis was performed.Of the 2,573 responses, there was a decline of approximately 13.6%,14.0%,and 23.8%in subjective sleep, physical condition, and mental health after the pandemic, respectively. The logistic regression analysis demonstrated that regarding sleep, the affected group was younger, got vaccinated against influenza annually, had lower income, experienced poor sleep quality in the past month, and had worse physical and psychiatric symptoms than before the pandemic.Concerning the physical condition, the affected group lived alone, witnessed deficient sleep quality in the past month, and had deteriorated mental health status than before the COVID-19 pandemic. In terms of mental status, the affected group was younger, females, had access to more sources of information, and experienced worse sleep and physical conditions than the unchanged or improved group(p<0.05).Each group indicated an association with the background factors, confirming that the subjective sleep, physical condition, and mental state affected each other. From a preventive perspective, the results of this study suggested that factors such as youth, gender, sleep quality, pregnancy, reduced income, and greater access to information, may be necessary for physical and mental support. The above-mentioned factors should be considered in light of community life and approached accordingly. 展开更多

Health related-physical fitness (HRPF) is critical for maintaining and enhancing health and quality of life. Purposes: To estimate the reference values and predictive equations for frequently used clinical field HRPF measures in a sample of Saudi female college students aged 18 - 24 years. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, body fat percentage (BF %) was estimated. Curl-up test (CUT) and sit and reach test (SRT) were applied in 216 students. The Queen’s College Step Test (QCST) was used to predict maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 max). Physical activity (PA) level was also measured using International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Results: The mean of BF %, SRT, CUT, and predicted VO2 max were 23.98% ± 6.13%, 17.10 ± 7.50 cm, 28.17 ± 7.72 number/min, and 39.58 ± 4.01 ml/kg/min respectively. There was no significant effect of age on all HRPF measures except for BF % (F (6,215) = 3.25, p (6,215) = 4.01, p strated that BMI was the predictor for BF % and SRT and explained 65% and 4% of total variance respectively. IPAQ score, age, and height were the predictors of CUT counting 17% of total variance. While, BMI and IPAQ score were the predictors for VO2 max and explained 13% of the total variance. Conclusion: Reference values can be used clinically in the evaluation of HRPF, in the rehabilitation process as well as in designing a program to improve the HRPF for female college students with consideration of age, height, BMI, and PA level for a particular population. 展开更多

Students with open memories also reported more trips to the doctor. 常读此类文章,我的辨证思维也会有所长进。比如,文中的这句写地何等好啊: But bringing closure to a past event does not necessarily mean that you have to be brutally honest with yourself. Beike said that people often remember events somewhat differently than how they actually happened.】 展开更多

BACKGROUND Over the last few decades,3 pathogenic pandemics have impacted the global population;severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus(SARS-CoV),Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus(MERS-CoV)and SARS-CoV-2.The global disease burden has attributed to millions of deaths and morbidities, with the majority being attributed to SARS-CoV-2.As such, the evaluation of the mental health(MH)impact across healthcare professionals(HCPs),patients and the general public would be an important facet to evaluate to better understand short, medium and long-term exposures.AIM To identify and report:(1)MH conditions commonly observed across all 3 pandemics;(2)Impact of MH outcomes across HCPs,patients and the general public associated with all 3 pandemics;and(3)The prevalence of the MH impact and clinical epidemiological significance.METHODS A systematic methodology was developed and published on PROSPERO(CRD42021228697).The databases PubMed,EMBASE,ScienceDirect and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were used as part of the data extraction process, and publications from January 1,1990 to August 1,2021 were searched.MeSH terms and keywords used included Mood disorders,PTSD,Anxiety,Depression,Psychological stress,Psychosis,Bipolar,Mental Health,Unipolar,Self-harm,BAME,Psychiatry disorders and Psychological distress. The terms were expanded with a‘snowballing’method.Cox-regression and the Monte-Carlo simulation method was used in addition to I2 and Egger’s tests to determine heterogeneity and publication bias.RESULTS In comparison to MERS and SARS-CoV,it is evident SAR-CoV-2 has an ongoing MH impact, with emphasis on depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.CONCLUSION It was evident MH studies during MERS and SARS-CoV was limited in comparison to SARS-CoV-2,with much emphasis on reporting symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress and sleep disturbances. The lack of comprehensive studies conducted during previous pandemics have introduced limitations to the“know-how”for clinicians and researchers to better support patients and deliver care with limited healthcare resources. 展开更多

Astronauts are under high stress for a long time because of the microgravity condition, which leads to anxiety, affects their learning and memory abilities, and seriously impairs the health of astronauts.Aromatherapy can improve the physical and mental health of astronauts in a way that moisturizes them softly and silently. However, the strong volatility of fragrances and inconvenience of aroma treatment greatly limit their application in the field of spaceflight. In this study, reactive mesoporous silica nanoparticles were prepared to encapsulate and slowly release limonene. The limonene loaded nanoparticles were named limonene@mesoporous silica nanoparticles-cyanuric chloride(LE@MSNs-CYC).LE@MSNs-CYC were then applied to wallpaper to improve the convenience of aromatherapy.LE@MSNs-CYC could chemically react with the wallpaper, thus firmly adsorbed on the wallpaper. In the following, the mice were treated with hindlimb unloading(HU)to simulate a microgravity environment. The results showed that 28-day HU led to an increase in the level of anxiety and declines in learning, memory, and physical health in mice.LE@MSNs-CYC showed significant relief effects on anxiety, learning, memory, and physical health of HU treated mice.Subsequently, the molecular mechanisms were explored by hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis related hormones,immune-related cytokines, learning, and memory-related neurotransmitters and proteins. 展开更多

Physical health plays an important role in overall well-being of the human beings. It is the most observed dimension of health among others such as social, intellectual, emotional, spiritual and environmental dimensions.Due to exponential increase in the development of wireless communication techniques,Internet of Things(IoT)has effectively penetrated different aspects of human lives.Healthcare is one of the dynamic domains with ever-growing demands which can be met by IoT applications.IoT can be leveraged through several health service offerings such as remote health and monitoring services, aided living, personalized treatment, and so on.In this scenario,Deep Learning(DL)models are employed in proficient disease diagnosis. The current research work presents a new IoT-based physical health monitoring and management method using optimal Stacked Sparse Denoising Autoencoder(SSDA)technique i.e.,OSSDA.The proposed model utilizes a set of IoT devices to collect the data from patients.Imbalanced class problem poses serious challenges during disease diagnosis process. So,the OSSDA model includes Synthetic Minority Over-Sampling Technique(SMOTE)to generate artificial minority class instances to balance the class distribution.Further, the hyperparameter settings of the OSSDA model exhibit heavy influence upon the classification performance of SSDA technique. The number of hidden layers, sparsity, and noise count are determined by Sailfish Optimizer(SFO).In order to validate the effectiveness and performance of the proposed OSSDA technique,a set of experiments was conducted on diabetes and heart disease datasets. The simulation results portrayed a proficient diagnostic outcome from OSSDA technique over other methods. The proposed method achieved the highest accuracy values i.e.,0.9604 and 0.9548 on the applied heart disease and diabetes datasets respectively. 展开更多

Promoting Health Enhancing Physical Activity (HEPA) behavior is an important undertaking in Germany as well as in China. In order to create successful interventions in different nations, knowledge about the relevant psychosocial correlates that may encourage successful progression through the behavior change process is necessary. Therefore, the relationships of selected psychosocial correlates of physical activity with stages of change were examined in a German-Chinese sample. In total, 2071 adults (865 Germans, 1206 Chinese) completed a questionnaire. The theoretical framework used was the FIT-model, which consists of the following stages of change: not considering, considering, preparing, exploring, fluctuating and maintaining. All data were analyzed with a two-way ANOVA. Significant main effects for the stages of change on all psychosocial correlates were found. Significant interactions between stages and nations emerged for all correlates except for social support, although these results revealed small effect sizes. To progress within the stages of inactivity, interventions should focus on outcome expectations, barriers, social support and affective attitudes. The successful initiation of physical activity depends on considerations of barriers, maintenance self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation and affective attitudes. These same correlates plus social support are relevant for long-term adherence to physical activity. In Germany, perceived barriers and emotional aspects of physical activity appear to be important for initiating and maintaining regular physical activity. Furthermore, for long-term adherence to physical activity, Germans—in contrast to Chinese adults—may not necessarily benefit from social support;however they could benefit from learning how to strengthen their physical activity outcome expectations. 展开更多
