Objective To investigate the prevalence of cedar pollinosis in China, and compare Cryptomeria fortunei(Cf) with Cryptomeria japonica (Cj) morphologically. Methods\ An epidemiological survey on nasal allergy was carried out among 1 660 primary and middle school students and 1 620 university students, including questionnaire investigation, nasal inspection by the same doctor and scratch test with the allergen extract of Cj. The pollen of Cf and Cj were observed by optical and electron microscope. The genes of chloroplast of them were analysed. Results ①The total positive rate of cedar pollen scratch test was 4.2%. 55 cases of nasal allergy were confirmed according to the criteria of diagnosis, in which 8 cases showed positive reaction to Cj and only 1 case was hypersentive to it. ②No significant distinction between Cf and Cj was found by optical and electron microscope and no difference in gene analysis was found. Conclusion\ ①Cedar pollinosis does exist in China. It′s low prevbalence is related to the low quantity of cedar pollen.②Cf and Cj are of the same family and genus. ③There may be an increasing tendency of cedar pollinosis in China.\; 展开更多

Intensive study on pollen allergens can be of great help for preventing and treating pollinosis. Four aspects of the study on pollen allergens in China including major allergic pollen in our country, analysis and purification of pollen allergen composition, recombinant pollen allergens and clinical application of pollen allergens are described in this paper. 展开更多

Objective To study the genera and seasonal distribution of airborne pollen in Hubei province of China, and its relationship with pollinosis. Methods From November 2003 to October 2004, an airborne pollen investigation was performed in 16 chosen areas in 12 cities of Hubei province using gravity sedimentation technique. Meanwhile, univalent skin prick tests of pollens were performed and the invasion season was studied on 2 300 patients with pollinosis. Among them, 352 cases underwent the airway responsiveness measurements, and the correlation between airway responsiveness and results of pollen count was analyzed. Results A total of 61 pollen genera were observed and 257 520 pollens were collected. The peak of airborne pollen distribution occurred in two seasons each year: spring (March and April) and autumn (from August to October). The attack of pollinosis corresponded to the peak of pollen distribution. There was a significantly negative relationship between the provocation dose causing a 20% decrease of forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) from baseline and airborne pollen concentration (r = -0.6829, P < 0.05). Conclusion This study provides useful information for airborne pollen epidemiology of Hubei province, and it provides important insights to clinical prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of pollen-related allergic diseases. 展开更多

Nasal obstruction, a primary symptom of allergic rhinitis, results in breathing difficulties and decreases quality of life in patients. Quantitative methods are required for diagnosis of nasal obstruction to accurately assess drug efficacy, not only in patients but also in animal models. Acoustic rhinometry is a non-invasive technique to measure nasal airway patency using acoustic reflections. To date, little information on its application in non-human primates (NHP) has been accumulated. Macaque monkeys are a practical NHP model because of their high similarity with humans in their biomedical nature, including genomic and immunologic events and morphology. We established an allergic rhinitis model of cynomolgusmacaque (Macaca fascicularis) sensitized with Japanese cedar pollen and applied acoustic rhinometry to measure nasal congestion. The extent of nasal congestion followed by allergen challenge was successfully quantified as the minimal cross-sectional area (MCA) of the nasal passage for the first time in an NHP allergic model. We also applied this acoustic technique to evaluate the efficacy of an antihistamine drug, fexofenadine. The acoustic assessment achieved quantitative evaluation of the efficacy of fexofenadine on nasal congestion in a macaque allergic model. 展开更多

In the present paper, the authors report a few of typical cases of alergic diseases including pollinosis, asthma, red eyes and swelling face and dermatitis treated with otopoints and some back shu points according to the symptoms. The result showed that the curative effect was satisfactory. It indicates that otopoints have a good antianaphylactic effect. 展开更多
