A design method to optimize the IIP3 of the bi-quad is developed. Multi-band selection and gain adjustment are implemented using switching resistors in the resistor array and capacitors in the capacitor array. Q-factor degradation is compensated by a tuning segmented resistor. A feed-forward OTA with high gain and low third-order distortion is applied in the bi-quad to maximize linearity performance and minimize area by avoiding extra compensation capacitor use. An RC tuning circuit and DC offset cancellation circuit are designed to overcome the process variation and DC offset, respectively. The experimental results yield an in-band IIP3 of more than 31 dBm at 0 dB gain, a 54 dB gain range with 6 dB gain step, and a continuous frequency tuning range from 0.25 to 4 MHz. The in-band ripple is less than 1.4 dB at high gain mode, while the gain error and frequency tuning error are no more than 3.4% and 5%, respectively. The design, which is fabricated in a 0.18 μm CMOS process, consumes 12.6 mW power at a 1.8 V supply and occupies 1.28 mm2.展开更多

The external cavity filter employs a galvo-mirror scanner with a diffraction grating for wavelength selection. The filter is connected to a ring cavity through an optical circulator. The ring cavity contains a broadband semiconductor optical amplifier with a high optical output. The perfor- mance of this laser is demonstrated with broad bandwidths and narrow linewidths. The 3 dB linewidth and the bandwidth of this source are 0.05 nm (-20 GHz) and 48 nm, respectively. The maximum output power is 26 mW at 160 mA current.展开更多

Simulated and experimental results show that the beam diffraction sidelobe is reduced from 12% to less than 1% with the non-sidelobe angular filter. The non-sidelobe angular filtering based on VBGs with thicknesses of 2.5 and 2.9 mm is simulated and demonstrated. The near-field distribution of filtered beams through the non-sidelobe angular filter is obviously smoother than that of the single VBG. The near-field modulation and contrast ratio(C) of filtered beams are found to be improved 1.17 and 1.66 times that of the single VBG. The far-field C of the filtered beam is improved to about 100∶1 and the power spectral density analysis shows that the cutoff frequency of the angular filter is greatly optimized with the VBG combination.展开更多

Due to the lack of structural insights into the nonconductive (closed) state, ‘C-type’ gating mechanisms remain elusive. Here, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations on TREK-1, a K2P channel, revealed that M4 helix movements induce filter closing in a novel ‘deeper-down’ structure that represents a ‘C-type’ closed state. The ‘down’ structure does not represent the closed state as previously proposed and instead acts as an intermediate state in gating. The study identified the allosteric ‘seesaw’ mechanism of M4 helix movements in modulating filter closing. Finally, guided by this recognition of K2P gating mechanisms, MD simulations revealed that gain-of-function mutations and small-molecule activators activate TREK-1 by perturbing state transitions from open to closed states. Together, we reveal a ‘C-type’ closed state and provide mechanical insights into gating procedures and allosteric regulations for K2P channels.展开更多
