[Method] The study discussed necessity and basic principles of over-all restoration and construction of "Chang'an Eight Water" from urban planning, and explored related methods from long term planning and concrete construction approaches. [Result] The study proposed that urban landscape substrates of "Chang' an Eight Water" should be restored based on overall planning about urban water environment, change of linear metabolism, and construction of drainage circulation system. Furthermore, self-circulation and purification of rainfall and sewage could be made use of there in view of present urban water environment. In addition, urban "metabolism" should be restored progressively to improve urban environment with consideration of water catchment, storage, and diversion. [Conclusion] We should take the initiative to catch the special opportunity to build Xi'an into an international metropolis with overall planning, designing and implementation, which will be conducive to reconstruction of water system and pleasant surroundings, and to presentation of urban ecosystem and context in "Chang'an Eight Water", providing many opportunities for urban development.展开更多

The size, openings and direction of fissures were measured by micrometer and compass. The locations of fissures and wall cracks were determined by GPS. The geoelectrical data were used to determine the composition, thickness, depth and shape of lower parts of the aquifer. Groundwater fluctuations were evaluated by available piezometers. The In SAR technique was used to measure land deformation from space and to map the dense changes of surface displacements. The results indicate that the main cause of ground subsidence is the decline of groundwater heads and changes in composition and thickness of compressible lacustrine sediments. The subsidence map obtained from the radar data of ASAR sensor of ENVISAT satellite shows that the subsidence zone is mainly in northern city that is underlain by very thick fine sediments. The subsidence rates from March to December 2005 and from July 2011 to January 2012 are 6.7 and 7.0 cm/a, respectively. The results also show good correlations among the formation of earth features, decline in groundwater head and thickness of fine-grained sediments. We recommend that the groundwater withdrawal for agricultural and industrial sectors should be restricted and urban expansion in the northern part of the city should be constrained.展开更多

At present, water bodies in Chinese cities have been seriously polluted by metallic nano-particles (MNPs) while related monitoring data are found woefully lacking throughout the country. Based on the above understanding, this article gives a round-up explanation on distributive characteristics of MNPs in the river mouths or water bodies of Chinese cities, their ecological hazards as well as our research in this regard, providing some inspiring ideas and data for control over this scourge. In addition, our exploration probes the discharge traits of MNPs themselves and the mechanism underlying its impact on water pollution.展开更多

The treatments of the studies were the effluents of five different industrial sources like polyvinyl, dyeing, pharmaceuticals, beverage, tannery, mixed waste water (contaminated with effluents from many industries), CWW (city waste water) and underground water as control. The industrial effluents, MWW (mixed waste water), CWW and control water were tested for electrical conductivity, pH, and soluble ions such as Na^+, Ca^2+, Mg^2+, K^+, HCO3-, CO3^2-, NH4^+-N and H2PO4^-. Micronutrients (Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn) and heavy metals (As, Pb, Cd, Cr and Ni) were analyzed from the samples. Beverage industry effluent showed acidic reaction, while the other industrial effluents showed alkaline reaction (pH 7.25-9.07). Pharmaceutical, dyeing and tannery effluents showed EC of 3.40, 4.30 and 9.49 dS m^-1, respectively, compared to 0.54 dSm^-1 of the control. All the effluents except polyvinyl and beverage effluents and CWW recorded higher carbonate and bicarbonate content than that of control. Industrial effluents and CWW were higher in micronutrient content as compared to control. Dyeing, pharmaceutical and tannery effluents contained 2.51, 3.94 and 4.29 mg L^-1 lead, 0.15, 0.14 and 0.38 mg L^-1 chromium and 0.25, 0.24 and 0.16 mg L^-1 nickel, respectively which might be concemed for health hazard through food chain.展开更多

This Quarter represents a well-defined urban fact, recognizable within the fabric of the historic city. Over the centuries, it has influenced the shape of the city and has become one of the most important and characteristic elements through its structure and spaces, its geography and its architecture (the Synagogue or the Jewish cemetery). However, this quarter also represents a fundamental social fact for the city of Prague as it is born from and organized around a very strong and historically rooted cultural identity. This cultural identity is characterized by uses, social customs, and traditions of a Jewish community that has been part of the history of the city over the centuries, helping to create myths and legends around it. The aim of this research is to preserve and recognize that cultural identity, using a strategic vision that starts from the reconstruction of pieces of this cultural testimony via the recovery of small parts of the urban fabric in the center or on the edge of this urban island.展开更多
